  1. A late night thought I had regarding the Stark property project. I hope that whoever takes it over, no matter how tall they build, retain the lower-level design of the most recent nuCLEus proposal. Loved how it would give the area a Times Square feeling with all the digital boards. Coupled with the FieldHouse’s colorful facade, it’d create a great atmosphere on game days.
  2. I’ll echo the comments above me- wow! This has the potential to have a Hudson Yards-type impact on Cleveland. Also loved how they stressed the importance of Tower City’s part in this plan. It has the potential to be central hub of this entire city. Can’t wait to see this unfold!
  3. Good to hear. Tower City is one of my favorite buildings downtown, so I’ve been trying to keep track of it in the midst of all of the other development news. Thank you.
  4. @KJPHi Ken, I’m posting this here since I didn’t want to get off-topic in the HSBE/Riverfront thread. Do you know if/how Bedrock’s riverfront development plans will affect what their plans are for Tower City? All I saw was that they plan on renovating the parking garage. Thanks.
  5. Love this news! To be honest, I was skeptical of the ‘Vision for the Valley’ and other riverfront plans because there have been several plans for this in the past. I’m impressed by how quickly this is moving forward.
  6. That’s what I’m going to do. So many plans coming together- new SW HQ, Bedrock’s riverfront plans/Vision for the Valley, the (current) Stark site, and the Guardians’ ballpark village. Not to mention the Tower City revitalization. All of that happening within a couple blocks of each other… can’t wait!
  7. That’s great to hear, wish we were there to see it. Any chance the pop-up shops stay around after the ASG? Some of them seemed pretty cool from what I read and, as you alluded to, brought some much-needed energy to the building. If not, I hope they have permanent tenants in mind to take their place going forward.
  8. Hi Geowizical, thank you for all the time you put into these visuals- I absolutely love them! When you get the chance, I have a request. Would it be possible to expand on this visual and add Bedrock's riverfront development plans across from Tower City? I know it'd likely be difficult since the the textures are different, but I was interested in seeing how all these projects would look together. Thank you!
  9. Glad to hear those plans are coming together. Development in(on?) the peninsula would nicely compliment the Vision for the Valley master plan.
  10. Time to bring back the dancing fountains! :)
  11. Love it… a man can dream!
  12. Looks like a classic case of the law of averages… take surface parking away from Public Square, have to add some on the lakefront! 😅
  13. Yes! I was thinking the same thing. Would be a great “connector” building between the two districts.
  14. Two reoccurring comments I’ve seen in this thread have been that the pavilion isn’t ideal for its location on Public Square, but also that the tower is much better situated off the Jacobs Lot. In that case, what would have been a better alternative to satisfy both? Retail/apartments/something else?
  15. I liked the original CityBlock proposal; they appeared to have two rooms that went from the ends of the food court to the edges of the concourse. I know my wording isn’t great, but it essentially cleaned up the food court area while not just leaving it as a dead space. You can view it on page 21 of this document. They could get creative with what those two spots. Perhaps a restaurant or store, or a showcase of local artists? Maybe an interactive exhibit tailored to tourists and travelers showcasing the history of Cleveland and/or Union Terminal? Lots of options.
  16. In my opinion, B&B Theatres would be a great fit to operate a revived Tower City Cinemas. We discovered them when we moved to Kansas City and they do almost exactly what you described; they have a few different varieties of “destination” theaters that make for a great night out. They also have experience operating the movie theater at the Mall of America, so they’re not unfamiliar with that type of setting.
  17. The pop-up stores make sense when you think about the timeline in relation to Dan Gilbert’s other projects. He likely wanted to get the Tower City revival up and running before he and the Cavs host the NBA All-Star game. Pop-ups seems like the quickest and easiest way to fill vacancies. I wouldn’t be surprised if they develop a more permanent tenant plan after that.
  18. So was there going to be no food court at all had Nieman Marcus joined? Interesting. On a side note, I do think that they should ditch the food court altogether and open up the space to create a nice entrance for people coming in from Huron, especially with the increased activity moving forward (building construction, Vision for the Valley, etc). That, along with the food hall concept, were some of the few ideas I liked about the CityBlock proposal.
  19. Excited to see the “CSU 2.0” initiative come to fruition. A strong public university in Cleveland would be a great asset for the city and would compliment CWRU well; it could keep bright talent in Cleveland coming out of high school and attract more businesses wishing to hire that talent.
  20. What would happen to the parking lot/pedestrian walkway under this scenario? Would they built atop of them or would they simply be stripped out? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, just have no idea of the logistics surrounding such a proposal.
  21. I’m torn about whether I’d prefer the Prospect Park proposal, but I do think that type of space along the river is important regardless (would this fall under Vision For The Valley?). Hopefully they still plan on implementing that as part of their Riverview development.
  22. Apologies for my repetitive posting, but another thought that popped into my mind: does Bedrock still plan on turning Prospect Avenue into a park/pedestrian space?
  23. It appears that they already have a few local retailers lined up.
  24. Agreed. I think a movie theatre would be the best option but they could get creative with it. Maybe a designated theater for international films, or perhaps for films made by Cleveland State Film & Drama students? Lots of possibilities.
  25. Great idea, I like it! Also, I second your “bones” comment. I wasn’t a huge fan of the CityBlock proposal because of how much they were going to change the interior of building. Glad to see that this proposal- at least judging by the visuals we have on it- will keep the building’s architecture and character intact.
