Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Was this movie filming in Cleveland Heights today? Something major was happening in a house on Compton when I drove by. Lots of equipment...tons of big lights and people and trailers and all the windows were covered from the outside (very interesting the way things were being done cause it looked like the filiming was being done inside the house). And with all this commotion the neighbors were all out just raking leaves. Also the street was not blocked or anything...just one cop car keeping watch.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
guys...remember this was an office building (built in the 60s). Climate controlled. The powers that be did not want tentants and employees opening windows and screwing things up. And KJP is right...The windows are huge.

^For the hundrenth time...there would not be a convention center without the med mart (or what ever it is called). So if you wanted a new convention center (which most people did) then to those people it does not matter if the med mart is "dumb and wasteful". No med mart, no cover for the county commissioners, no tax, another 25 years of committees and meetings with people trying to come up with some way to fund the convention center.

^But apparently the convention center hotel gets the convention in the first place. Interesting, given what Cleveland is doing (basically the county is building its own hotel) to see how hard Pittsburgh had been trying to attract a convention center hotel with no luck despite dangling millions in subsidies.

Orange Village: Pinecrest
The people to the east and south of this are going to regret they voted for this. Lately I have been driving from Solon to Cleveland Heights about 5pm and taking the back roads which go near this development (particulary Brainard but others as well). I am shocked how the traffic backs up NOW on what are more or less rural roads. Also, a few weeks ago I got off at the Harvard exit of 271 about 5 pm trying to make my way to Chagrin Falls. Again everyway I turned traffic was backed up on roads you would not expect much traffic let alone a backup. It is a mess now...it will only get worse.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Being an out of towner I am not up on the details of either election but I would guess it would depend on the ballot language. In any event these two referendums might be the basis of a lawsuit it the project is killed.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^Isn't that Club Cleveland, some sort of gay night club or spa or bath or something (I know I sound like I am from the suburbs of Topeka, Kansas but really not up on these things). Is it possible it is not doing well?

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
^I don't think so...I am under the impression that they want to do this fast. I thought the conceptual that was floating around on the Board was pretty sharp although if I recall they plan some large green space on the east side of the building which did not thrill me.

^maybe that is temporary parking where Phase 2 is going and they don't want to incur the cost when it will just be ripped up. Just a guess.

^Isn't the 4 million contribution of public funds for the whole 16 million project...not just the chandelier. I can't imagine that one portion of the project costs that much.

Oxford / Miami University: Development and News
Thanks for the pics Ink. Question you may or may not be able to answer. I note that they are renovating Kreger. I was not aware they had the funds for this. As I recall, Phase 2 of the Armstrong Student Center involves incorporating Culler into the complex but this could not be done until funds were found to renovate Kreger and move the departments currently in Culler into Kreger. Since the renovation of Kreger is going forward, does that mean that Phase 2 of the student center will begin shortly (or are they still seeking funding for Phase 2)?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^As MTS would say, who have you contacted about this at the city so the problem can be fixed. Complaining about it on this board is not going to solve the problem.

^my guess is that the podium will mimic the Med Mart (or whatever it is called) so about 4 stories (so it my first grade math is right that means this version would be 31 stories...as somebody mentioned before, hotel floors are not as tall as office building floors so even though it has more storiess than the Justice Center it might not be as high...in fact I would think a Justice Center floor (especially the court floors) are higher than even a normal office building).

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^I asked about the location of the additional apartments a few days ago (as did KJP). No response from anybody in the know yet but at the time I was thinking exactly what Freethink posted. That they are going behind the riverfront building in a section that was not going to be initially built in phase 2 but now will be. I sure wish Michelle or somebody could confirm this or offer another location.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
what I really want to know, now that it has been a few days since Michelle's article (and since KJP did inquire) is where the additional apartments mentioned in the article are going . I tend to agree with a number of posters that the riverfront building is not going any taller to accomodate the increase...so where?

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
^well of course that raises a whole host of questions, the primary one being do they have plans for the rest of the building....why kick out a large tenant such as Key if you do not (or maybe Key actually had plans to consolidate in Brooklyn and the purchase and move are not related).

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
^If you sat at a table at the back of what used to be Cleveland Chophouse, you could see the courtyard through the big windows. It was pretty "weedy". I hope this does happen but many of the statements in the article were very wishy washy (like don't get your hopes up...much has to fall into place). The biggest thing was of course securing the tax credits (the project does not happen without them and it is clearly not a lock since they are so competitive).

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
^Just a name change...Kaufmann's and May Co were the same company...just different divisions...and yes...growing up (in Maple Hts.) we knew it as May's ON the Heights (it was the more upscale May's (compared to Southgate) if that really was possible...it was not in the same league as Higbee's and certainly not Halles).

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
I rarely read the comments on Cleveland.com but did in connection with Michele's article. I'm sure everybody on the board will appreciate the guy who stated the Schoefield Building is ugly and should have been torn down. Somebody who responded and basically told him he was crazy was way too polite. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go around (by the way his screen name was "plaintiff's lawyer" which speaks volumes (says the defense lawyer )
