Cleveland Heights: Development and News
You know it is strange....of any community (city) in Northeast Ohio, given the nature and mind set of the resident population (along with the education level and the fact that they are well traveled), you would think that Cleveland Heights would be fostering creative urban development principles that you see across the nation. Obviously resources are a problem but again, that is a problem every where. I think the powers that be might know what they want but they are just TIRED, and end up settling. More and more Lakewood is becoming what CH should be (although they still make many bone headed decisions) even though they also have to deal with an aging housing stock like CH (that's an understatement...much of it is in really bad shape although it is difficult to see from the curb) and don't have the advantage of University Circle being at it's door step.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
^I drove by the new Wal Mart on Warrensville a couple of weeks ago ( I don't really go that way much) and it really is worse than I could have imagined. It looked like I had just been transported to Streetsboro.

^I certainly don't know the answer one way or another but why would such a business want to limit it's customer base?

^Yeah...about 5 blocks a part. I worked for Bonds (Southgate store) when I was in high school in the 70's and was in the Euclid 9th store on many occassions. It wasn't fancy (clothes were comparable to say Richmond Brothers...middle of the pack...not a lot of executives (who would shop at say Bunce Brothers (that's right not Brooks Brothers...Bunce (I really miss that store...I bought my first grey herribone over coat there...loved that coat and wore it to death) but more like middle class guys who needed a suit for a special occassion (say a factory worker who needed a suit for a funeral...I remember we were always doing rush suits for guys would clearly did not own one and needed it in a hurry). Do like the building, although the Roxy right next door on 9th DID have to come down....it was a mess (nothing like going to a strip show in the heart of the business district).

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel ran for US Senate.
^and yet he was protecting the rights of an Ohio citizen like any good public official. (along with Husted who also made calls to California) What I found so interesting about the article was how much of it seemed to be saying "read between the lines".

^The Olmsted was demolished to build the Hampton and it pretty much is the same height and covers the same footprint. By the time it was demolished it looked nothing like the pictures from the 20s. At some point it had been given a "modern skin" and was pretty bland (and of course what replaced it is pretty bland as well).

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
I would kinda be pissed about this as well if I owned property and somebody didn't get imput from me about this monster being built at my doorstep...the response of the city official was pretty BS. Boy they really bend over backwards for Gilbert. That said, I really cannot see how this is hampering the marketing of the building...sounds kinda disingenous to extort some $$$ out of Gilbert.

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Does anybody on the board know if the apartments are on the lower or upper floors? I am guessing the hotel will be the top floors but not sure. I am actually of thinking of exploring an apartment downtown (I guess then I will have to be dtguy) and the Schofield is the building that interests me the most, especially after seeing the finishes CRM did in the Seasons at Perk Park.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
^I have been confused by this project from day one. Maybe it is because it has changed over the years (or maybe not, I am just not sure) due to funding issues. My current confusion is over the "interchanges" (which in my mind don't equate to a 35 mph boulevard...but rather intersections would). Crain's article states the project will eliminate several interchanges. But I believed I asked many months ago and was told that the work on 73rd is actually the constuction of an interchange. So which is it? Are they building interchanges or eliminating them?

The "chasing" occurred 10-15 years after the "abandoning". The abandoning lead to the chasing.

There's some truth to that, but he was always respectful and often constructive about it. Those who want to bring the city back might want to listen to the concerns of that group. You're going to need some of them, at least. Not in a million years. I know that "group" very well. He grew up in the same neighborhood as my mom and graduated from John Adams shortly after her. It is that "group" that abandoned the city (including my mom) and then harped about it for the next 50 years complaining "what it had become". It gets so tiresome to hear them say over and over what this use to be like when I personally place much of the blame on them.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^I did not read the report so I will take your word for this. If true...how did the PD reporter not catch this and comment on it as it clearly taints the credibilty of the report. How many other facts are wrong? This should have been a component of the PD article.

^^Agree. You would think that rather than harping about the number of hotel rooms we would be discussing and marveling at how fast this is happening. Compared to any other project in Cleveland this is moving like a rocket (which could be a good thing or a thing which board members might be concerned about).
