  1. ^Now that I like...especially like how it respects the church with the lower height and massing on Euclid even though it hits the sidewalk.
  2. Yeah this is pretty bad...you think they could have at least sited it on Euclid and kept all the green space in the rear on Prospect. It is a huge lot (drove by a couple of days ago for the first time since the demo of the hotel and I surprised how truly large the lot is...and it will get even bigger once the Rascal House is demoed). It would have to have been a massive building to fill the whole lot...still...the siting could have been done better....maybe use the front part and reserve the rear for future construction.
  3. If this is true my guess is Von Maur since it appears to be the one department store nationwide that seems to be expanding rather than contracting. However, while many claim it is an "upscale" store I really don't know how true that is. I know MTS would probably laugh hysterically at that classification. It certainly is not in the Saks, NM league or any where close. I certainly cannot see it being Bloomingdales or NM (neither of which has an Ohio store) since Bloomingdale seems to be actually closing stores (I think they just closed one in Atlanta that became a Von Maur) and I cannot believe either one of those two would locate so far away from the far east side.
  4. It is pretty amazing. And the cleaning reveals what a huge exterior restoration project this is going to be. Don't make you reservation at the Kimpton for any time soon.
  5. ^We did this every day for my entire elementary school career back in the 60s. When the first bell rang you marched in by grade. Never really thought anything of it and just thought it was the way it was. Also had to line up whenever travelling any where in the school (going to lunch, regular rest room breaks, gym class, art class ect. and to leave in the afternoon).

I have been registered for more than 7 years and really can't say things are uncivil at all now compare to the past. In fact, thinking about it, I can recall much worse in the past and the mods having to take action quite regularly. If anything the board has become less interesting and less informative over the years.

^Acacia is no longer a golf course.
  8. ^as I reflected in my original post, I am more discouraged by the huge parking lot between the rapid tracks and building 4 which looks like it will be there for quite some time.
  9. ^Does your g/f read the forum? She might not be thrilled by the "maybe"
  10. Thank you for information. Hope the 2013 ground breaking for Phase 2 is true. It really seems that it has taken a ton of work to get the $$ together for Phase 2 given the above, which leads me to believe that additional phases are way down the road. Unforunately, that appears to mean that that hugh surface lot right in the heart of the development will be around for a good long time. Really is a shame as it is a big disconnect. But I guess we should look at the positive and be happy that phase 2 is a go and heap praise on the Wolsteins for all their hard work.
  11. ^yeah...that makes no sense...who is the source (plus if the store is as big as the new Solon Market District store if will take up almost the whole block...what about parking...this does not sound like Giant Eagle's MO).
  12. ^but weren't all the designs (including that one) pretty conceptual during the competition and the "refined" design still has not made an appeaerance?
  13. I have a feeling what Strap said above is correct and there is no approved design as of yet.
  14. Isn't the Science Building going on this site? I wasn't aware that they came up with a design yet (all I recall were the conceptual designs when they were picking the architect).
  15. Really like the rendering. Too bad it won't happen.
  16. Let me read between the lines....L and R bought the property back in 2008 for more than it was worth (over a million) because they clearly wanted to tear it down and expand their parking lot (which the city was fighting as early as 2009). So they let it continue to deteriorate over the past 5 years (no matter what they say now or will say in court) because in the end it just supports their goal of demolition (which again was the goal in the first place...they are parking people not developers). This, of course, is plain to a five year old. Now they are stuck because the city is not only continuing to fight them over the demo for parking (surprise surprise...I am sure they felt they were just going to swoop in and tear it down back in 2008) and now the city has even closed their lot next door because they have failed to maintain the building causing them more of a financial headache (kinda ironic). The big problem is that they problably, at this point, would like to dump the building since the scheming has failed, but since they paid so much more than market for it (note Weston bought one of the ajoining buildings for $300,000.00) they are going to take a big lose given what fair market price currently is. If they were smart they would just cut their loses and sell to Weston in a hurry instead of continuing to pay property taxes (are they even current?) and attorney and broker fees to fight the city.
  17. ^More comments on the developments later...but for now...are you crazy or just joking?
  18. Than somebody at Giant Eagle should do some better marketing because everybody I know constantly complains how awful the produce is at Giant Eagle. Whether that is true or not I don't know but that seems to be a persistant perception and they are regularly trashed by people.
  19. ^Thanks for the pretty pictures but what the hell did they all say (I know you will get to that I am just impatient :-P)
  20. ^^I am also having difficulty seeing this. How does a private property owner benefit from a "street plaza" (unless he owns surrounding property and even then?)
  21. ^wow...what an opportunity for all the "color" advocates. Make sure you bring your paint chips
  22. ^^Thanks for the information Keith...I hope that leaves people less baffled.
  23. I really miss the restaurant on West 10th. I know they were still doing catering out of that location but I have not been there in years. The food was always good but the atmosphere (decor) and incredible views of the river are what were the draw for me. If they are going totally out of business I hope somebody with great restaurant credentials will take over the space and open it up as a restaurant again.
  24. ^the very first time I flew on a plane it was out of Dayton (to Cleveland)...if I recall correctly everybody called the airport Vandalea (spelling). Is it still referred to as such?
