Cleveland: Random Development and News
Eleven floors in the Huntington Building is a HUGE space need. I think when Jones Day and Squires were in the building and they were the two largest law firms in Cleveland they both only had about 2 and a half floors.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
^Thanks for the reply. That's a little farther in the future than I imagined. Good thing ODOT doesn't have anything to do with it or that completion date might be moved to 2050.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
^Lurking from up north and I don't get to this thread that often so I apoligize if I am asking a question that has been answered a million times or is easy to find. When is the completion date of all Phases and do they have the $$$ already for the entire project. Thanks. By the way, it looks great so far.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
^^I was thinking the same thing as I was reading KJP post. Why go into the city as far E. 75th and then back out to the burbs to get to Windermere.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Okay lockdog I guess I will have to explain my comment. Niko was suggesting a cheaper alternative to "doming" Cleveland Browns Stadium since many of the other posters indicated that there is no money for this and it is very likely cost prohibitive. I reflected that Niko's suggestion was a Cleveland joke in the making since so many other cites have these expensive and elaborate retractable roofs, and Cleveland would have a baggie over its stadium. I could see Jay Leno having a field day.

Cleveland: Retail News
If Cleveland were to get a new upscale department store (which I really don't see being in the cards) I would like to see a Bloomingdales. I actually thought Federated might put a Bloomingdales in the Kaufman's in University Hts. during the nation wide "change over" a few years ago when it bought Mays. It made sense to me since it was just down the street from Beachwood Place with Saks and Nordstroms, and they could have Richmond Mall Macy's serve the Heights. Instead they just put Macy's in both locations.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
It seems as though every two months or so this thread goes on and on debating parking at CSU which I guess is "marginally" related to CSU development, but I really don't know how much more can be said on the topic. It appears this go around it has turned into nasty debate about he value of the school as an educational institution in and of itself (at least in one poster's mind). Sometimes I don't know how these threads evolve like this.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
^I took the rapid when I had offices as far east as E Ninth (three offices, near the lake, right on Euclid and across from Gateway). That was it. When I got a job in an office as far as Playhouse Square I drove. However, it was also my first job where the company paid for parking and in a garage attached to the building. Could not pass that up. Maybe i would have still taken the rapid if I did not have that perk.

^Is the art building staying up for the time being? Is that another phase? Am I wrong...isn't that area part of the project?

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^Many times power house are redeveloped, especially those in a prime location (like say a lake front). Wasn't the Tate Modern in London a power house at one time? So all you need is say $500-600 million and its a cinch. Since this is Cleveland I would say look for this to happen about 2075 (given we have had a parking lot on Public Square for 20 years now).

^^Hmm...when ever somebody on this board makes this exact point, some devotee of skywalks always points to Minneapolis and how great they are.

Cleveland: Retail News
I heard from a reliable source that a Nordstrom Rack is coming to the west side. It will be located in Westlake in the formers Borders at the Promenade (which is attached to Crocker Park). Probably a smart move (and one less reason for west siders to keep their passports updated to travel to the east side).

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I went to school on a residential campus. My freshman year my shortest walk to class was 10 minutes and my longest was 20 minutes. I cannot imagine it takes longer than 15 minutes to walk to class from any parking lot on the CSU campus (with the majority being much shorter). When I was practicing law I would walk anywhere from 10-25 minutes (depending where my office was) in the business district to get to meetings, depositions and court. I would walk 10-15 minutes from my office to the rapid when going home. These kids have to get a life.

I will be moving to Cleveland soon
^^Actually you will find some excellent restauants and bars in the near east side suburbs and the Shaker Square, Little Italy, Universtiy Cirlce areas of Cleveland, (which are close to Cleveland Hts.) and if you would prefer to go downtown, it really is not a challenge to get downtown, Ohio City or Tremont (a couple of other places with great restaurants near downtown). 20 minutes....parking is rarely a hassle.

I will be moving to Cleveland soon
The combination of indoor parking (for two) and close to nightlife is what is throwing me. The first thing that popped into my head was Shaker Hts since many of the apartment buildings in the city have indoor parking, but like you said, not really close to night life (although not a far drive) and certainly not within walking distance. My gut feeling is that you would like the Warehouse District. I would try the Bridgeview Apartments (corner of West Ninth and St. Clair and see if any two bedrooms are available....they have convenient indoor parking, it is a cool building with lots of different types of floor plans and it is of course in the heart of the night life. About a 20 minute bus ride or drive to the Clinic (especially very early in the morning) and the area is as safe as you would find in the downtown of any major city. If you do have some interest in Cleveland Hts., I might be able to recommend a relatively new 3 story townhouse you could rent (two bedrooms) but I think it only has one indoor parking space in the attached garage. However, you can park the other car right outside the garage. Good luck in your search and welcome to Cleveland.

Cleveland Water Department News and Discussions
I have an interest in a business in Westlake and quite frankly this makes me very nervous. I don't know if Clough is thinking things through and he really is not the type who likes to be told he is wrong so this might go forward even with the potential problems. Looks as though Cleveland is going to play hard ball with them as well which should make all the lawyers happy (nothing wrong with that of course)

Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
^My God..is that a Wall Street Journal article (as purported) or an advertisement (press release). Also, somebody has to get their facts straight....It states it is close to the Cleveland Clinic (really) and the offices of EASTON (sic) corporation (I assume they mean Eaton Corp.) which we all know will have moved to Beachwood by the time the hotel opens.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
Obviously good job news, and I of course would rather see a building on that windswept land which is just collecting liter at this time. Still, why is it that I am picturing a one story bunker surrounded by a parking lot?

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
A lot to digest...one thing I am happy to see it that the plan is to deal with that parking lot between Crile and E 105 sooner (some time in the next two years) rather than later. I hope the greening of this space includes (obviously it will) removal of all that hideous chain link fencing. This lot is a real embarrassment given it's prominent location. I like the idea of a "mall" in this area and always thought it would be nice to frame such a space with a building on E. 105 in line with Crile, with a huge (3-4 stories) archway as a entrance to the mall.
