I don't believe anybody on this board object to this alledged proposal is that naive to think that such an incentive would consist of a check for $400 mil as suggested in a couple of posts. This deals are of course always complex and consist of a combination of perks that in some manner equal that figure. That said, again, I could think of a hundred other companies other than this dying brand to give such money too or I can think of 100 ways Ohio could better spend (in any form) 400 mil that would create jobs.

My God this is insane. If Ohio has $400 mil to lure ONE company (which in my opinion it does not...see above posts) why in the world would you use it to lure Sears of all companies. I could make a list of 100 other companies I would go after with that sum of money first (even ones not looking to move).
  3. ^actually...is anybody currently "pushing" for Gray's Green? Best I can tell KJP resurrected this thread after seeing it referenced on website that maybe 4-5 years old.
  4. The article contains a reference to a June 2012 groundbreaking for the CIA addition/campus consolidation. While I have read they want to start sometime in 2012 (after being pretty vague lately...."will start when fund raising allows"), this is the first firm date I have seen. Hopefully the reporter actually spoke to somebody in the know. I really think this is a key element of uptown.
  5. ^Wow...a Jeff Johnson fan...I thought his mother was the single member of that club. :-D Is this actually in Johnson's ward like you said? I thought his ward was more around University Circle (recall the stink he made regarding the Hazel Road apartments).
  6. ^ha ha...I doubt it...KJP you seem to be searching the web a lot lately.
  7. ^Odds are somebody living in the building would refer to the affordable units required as part of the conversion to Section 8 even if not part of the program, as it is all the same to most people who do not know. Say subsidy to them and they think Sec 8.
  8. ^That is because both buildings were built and designed (about the same time) as Holiday Inn's and that was the nationwide prototype at the time of construction.
  9. Would it be possible to let us know what your price range is? We might be able to help with suggestions. Recent articles in the PD suggest that downtown rentals are very full so it will probably be hard to get a "deal" downtown. Also note the problem we have here...BallHatGuy believes rents downtown are kinda high, at least compared to Cincy...yet the recent articles, and many on this board have indicated that until rents go higher than they are now, due to the economics, there will not be much new construction in the future and even renovations (with out subsidies) will be a challenge.
  10. Something that jumped out to me was Wolstein saying he wants to break ground for apartments at the Flats East Bank in the spring. He sounded pretty positive about this (famous last words). While I know it has been stated that they are planning and want to go forward with Phase 2, this is the most concrete statement I have seen from a principal to date.
  11. ^I never had a chance to patronize Zinc...how did they do? Did things slow down in the winter for some reason (I know they had a great and popular patio). Did they just get an offer they could not refuse.
  12. Note the numbers for both metropolitan areas are substantially below the national unemployment rate. Thank God for Governor Kasich
  13. ^I am a fan of Bruell's restaurants in general, but I have come to the conclusion, after many tries and discussions with others, that there is a salt issue in many of his dishes as well

^to answer your last question...maybe, just maybe, as suggested numerous times in this thread, they never really intended to leave Illinois in the first place.
  15. Just so I am straight on this...is it true that RTA does not have the money for this project (the transit center portion) but they are applying, and that the Warehouse District and Downtown Cleveland Alliance people won't even start looking for a developer until earlier next year (who must then come up with a design and secure financing)?
  16. Htsguy replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Business and Economy
^Not really....read the thread....many posters prior to this announcement (months ago) questioned whether Sears was actually moving or simply holding Illinois for ransom and also questioned why Ohio should waste precious resources chasing after them either because they had a feeling this is what Sears was up to or didn't think they were worth it. Like I said...read the thread.
  17. ^I don't think these isolated island's of retail work except sometimes in major cities with huge tourist trades (and even then high turn over or failure) Retail is hard enough in downtown Cleveland without everybody suggesting pockets of it all over town in every development. (Buy the way....I hope my post does not send this way off topic on retail in general in Cleveland)

^Numerous posters stated this during the past few months discussion...I was always amazed how many posters ignored this and jumped on the bang wagon stating Ohio should make an effort to go after this company which may very well not exist in ten years.
  19. ^So this project would encompass FCE and Weston land, but the majority is owned by Weston. Is that correct?
  20. Did FCE buy this land from Weston or is there other land in the WHD that Weston owns. I thought this was the plot they were trying to develop after the whole Stark partnership fell apart. While the Weston development was clearly a long shot, at least it was out there (or again am I confusing the parcels?)
  21. ^KJP...in addition you might want to suggest to new forum members that profanity is not appreciated on the board as well.
  22. ^Not sure which building that is.
  23. ^^Does RTA lease that building...I thought they owned it (especially given the huge renovation they did to it when they first moved in).
  24. ^That statement really did not set off any alarms in my mind. I guess I am optimistic but I read it as financing will be closing within the month. For what it is worth, I recall somebody posting somewhere that there is a Snavely Construction sign on a window in one of the storefronts on Euclid in front of the hotel site (which I have observed since the post). It was implied by the poster that this might mean work on the hotel might begin soon since Snavely is apparently the GC on the project (I guess suggesting that they took the space in the building to use as it's project office).
