Cleveland: Flats East Bank
It is obviously no different from when there were structures along the river, and people had no trouble getting from the area where the office building will be (it was a parking lot) to the river. So I guess you would only consider it a barrier if you thought it was way back when.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
How old is this? I mean Chester 82 and Upper Chester...haven't heard anything here for well in excess of 2 years and doubt they are going to happen any time soon if ever (at least not the original proposals...maybe sometime type of development on Upper Chester land some day....you would think it is a prime spot for residential development...nothing seems to be happening though).

^^Jerry...glad to see that RTA thinks these issues through and attempts to spend taxpayer funds wisely.

OH, WV, PA: Endangered Wheeling, Washington Mall and more
Interesting to hear about the Foundry Development in Pittsburgh mentioned above. Somewhat similar to a large shopping center development in the Cleveland suburb of Garfield Hts. built on a former landfill overlooking the Cuyahoga Valley. Only about 5-6 years old and a near ghost town now (Wal Mart one of the first to leave after being open less than 2 years) due to various land and solvency issues.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Oh well. After countless (and well deserved) negative comments I have posted in connection with these buildings, I will attempt something positive. I guess, at least, they are better than what was there. But as mentioned countless times on this board, we cannot settle just because somebody wants to build SOMETHING.

Ok...that's you point....I was going to respond but see no reason to start a senseless argument and go off topic.

^I really have no idea what your point is here. Could you please clarify?

It has become clear to me that people who plan these types of developments (casinos) are convinced that "adequate" parking for a facility means no more than a 200 yard walk from the car to the facility, preferably entirely enclosed if possible. Indeed if there was some way to have a parking space next to each individual slot machine they would be in heaven. Don't even try to sell them on the fact that there are thousands of spaces located within a walking distance shorter than the average urban office worker tracks every day in all types of weather. I imagine most of these guys were developing suburban shopping malls in the past.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
I happen to drive by Monday night (about 10:00 pm) and it looked very open to me. Now let's get moving on the University Circle station.

^I really don't see how a parking garage with a fancy valet waiting area (oh I'm sorry...."welcome center") and some minor retail spaces is going to increase street activity to any great extent (especially with the gerbil tube). If your definition of "activity" is people parking and crossing the street more than happens at that intersection now...well I guess you are right. EDIT: By the way....agree with you about the two most despicable lawyers (not just divorce lawyers) in town. I had a minor case with the office once and aged 5 years handling it.

Lakewood: Development and News
^They did a proto-type of a double conversion into a double townhouse in Cleveland Hts. It cost a fortune to convert (I think something in the 150,000 range...I believe they did find structual problems which jacked up the price but I bet that will often be the case with most old doubles). Then the two townhomes took forever to sell if I recall correctly. Not aware of the status of the homes now. It does not appear this "experiment" led to many other conversions.

Just have to shake my head at some of the comments in the article.

Looks as though the Pinnacle will block most of the building from that vantage point, and if not the huge new skyscaper on the Jacobs property on Public Square will.

^It has been a long time since I dealt with the statute but I believe Ohio's Landlord-Tenant law requires 24 notice to enter an apartment unless it is an emergency...I would imagine Illinois' statute would be similar...your lease might also have a provision regarding showing for leasing purposes.

^You would think...but for a multiplicity of reasons I don't have a lot of faith in Forest City...I think they have reached a point of exhaustion where Tower City is concerned.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
^^I think you are jumping the gun re: "wonderful news". My reading of the above posts (and correct me if I am wrong) is that a K & D principal, in connection with a closing on a building in Euclid, Ohio, made an off hand comment about a possible deal on a 270 unit building downtown that may close in September. Real bare minimum facts and no mention if this might be a commercial building that they might turn into apartments similar to 668. With this information one of our members simply googled 270 building downtown and the first hit was Carter Manor. As far as I can tell no mention of Carter in the brief news blurb. Based on this, he then speculates this is the building K and D may be talking about. I would say this is a very thin thread at this time (and in fact makes no sense for all the reasons McCleveland gave). Interesting how a poster's speculation can blossom in no time when we have so little to discuss.

True story in regards to smart (eastern coaster) person not having a geographical clue. I had retained an egineering expert for a case with offices in New York (Long Island). It was necessary for him to come to Cleveland to review documents and do a site inspection. While on the phone setting up the trip he asked me if he flew into Cincinnati. I told him only if he wanted to then drive five hours, and that indeed Cleveland did have it's own airport. While he was in Cleveland he was reviewing documents at the Board of Education Building on East Sixth. My office was on West Sixth and I told him to come over and I would take him out to lunch at Johnny's. Gave him directions and since it was a beautiful fall day told him he just need to walk down St. Clair to West Sixth. In doing so he apparently caught a glimpes of the lake. He commented when he arrived what a pleasant walk it was and how nice the large body of water was. "What is it?" I told him it was Lake Erie. Again this is a college graduate. Apparently they do not teach geography in New York schools. While it was his first time to Cleveland, I have never been to Milwaukee but I know that it sits on Lake Michigan.

^yeah i was thinking the same thing...if you can see the crane from this vantage point, why would you not be able to see at least a portion of the building?

Does anybody on the board have any strong opinion or thoughts about Luxe. I was thinking of going for the first time (really like Kaplan's food...once had a soup at One Walnut that was the best things I ever ate). This is to celebrate a friend's promotion so I want it to be somewhat special. The reason I am hesitating is because there are a number of really bad customers reviews out there. As a rule I ignore these internet reviews unless they are 100 negative or positive, but I just wanted to make sure because some of them were just blistering. The really bad ones were from when they just opened which may be relevant. Again, I usually just ignore internet reviews and try out a place for myself, but I wanted some thoughts from you all. Thanks.
