The Game Stop in Solon has had two armed robberies in the past couple of years (one of numerous armed events in Solon the past few years) Have been in the Colony movies on SS at least 50 times in my life with large and small crowds. Never an incident. I guess I am just lucky or smart.

Ink...while it was even before my time (hard to believe), so I am not quite sure, but I think the Sears facility you mentioned behind the playhouse may have been an acutual store and not just a warehouse. Up until the early 60's there was quite of bit of retail in that general area. Do you know for sure one way or another (or anybody else)? And while not surprised, since the Clinic bought the complex, but this is the first I have heard that it is going to be torn down (I am assuming you mean just the Sears portion and not the rest of the playhouse complex to which it is attached).

Cleveland I am surprised you have never seen the Prospect row houses since they are only a few blocks away from the CSU dorms you have photographed a number of times.

Thank you MTS....I guess we should also be advising against moving to Solon where a gentlemen was held up at gunpoint for a cigar this past week by five youths. One of many gun related hold ups the past two years in Solon. Of course Solon has SO MUCH MORE charm than Shaker Square.

^I have also heard very good things so far, though a little grumbling about some prices.

Not to get to far off topic, but the GSA has clearly initiated a federal courthouse building boom the last 15-20 years....does anybody know if Pittsburgh is in line (or if one is currently under construction). The last time I was in it was about 8-9 years ago and, while huge, it was absolutely the dumpiest federal courthouse I had ever been in.

^Unfortunately the set backs and large plaza's may be a 21st century US government design criteria for security purposes. Of course this still can be done 100% better.

^KJP...while this "may" be good advice, especially if the elevator has been down for an extended period of time or continues to break with slow followup repairs by RTA, I personally would want to have additional facts before I took such action....I mean elevators break all over...how long had this one been down...just that day or for an extended period of time...I certainly don't think one should make a Congressional affair out of a broken elevator, even such an important one, unless it is absolutely necessary.

With the closing of St. James and the possible demo of the Detroit Theater, this section of Detroit seems to be under assault.

^While I generally agree with the gist of your post (primarily that city officials our so happy to see somebody building something that they are not stressing good design or trying to implement an overall plan), if the High Street you are referencing is the one is Columbus, they just tore down a block of buildings and basically replaced it with a lawn (and I am pretty ignorant about Detroit but what if anything is getting built on Woodward)

^^Sorry...always thought Higbee was going to be permanent so I am still upset about Columbia coming down, the architectural mess that is replacing it and that horrible walk way.

At least tell him to build something better than the mess that is proposed.

I cannot believe that an organization as large as RTA does not have mechanism's and people who are responsible, as part of their regular job duties, to do scheduled inspections of each Red Line station (at least monthly if not more often) and note things as obvious as poor maintenance, broken tiles and unsightly rust stains (mentioned above) and have the authority and responsibility to see that such matters are taken care of as soon as possible. It should not be the ultimate responsibility of employees to make such reports (although they of course should) but the "guy" who is responsible for station maintenace. Indeed, I have to believe that regular inspections are conducted by somebody in order to address potential legal liability. This is not a mom and pop organization.

I was struck with a completely unrelated thought viewing the above photo...Obviously something is going to have to been done with the back of those buildings fronting Euclid when the hotel is built on that surface lot, or guests arriving at the main entrace are going to have a lovely view of the dishwasher taking out the trash

Clevelander17's last post hit the board before I had a chance to post...I was going to say "would Windhorst really care if he was contacted and displeasure was expressed or inaccuracies pointed out". Clevelander has answered that question. Of course inaccuracies could be pointed out to his editors....but really, will they care either.

^Are you sure it was Columbus? Kinda looked like Toledo to me but I could be wrong.

^Gee I see lots of down sides. Don't know how many people hang out around parking garages giving it street activity...plus most parkers won't even be on the street as they will use the gerbil tube even on a beautiful day (again remember who is going to be parking in this place). Plus, as mentioned time and time again, the multiple lanes of traffic in and out of the garage is going to be a pedestrian night mare. Also, the design is just hideous. Lots of down sides...these are just a few.

^Agree with you SH which is why I wonder why you never hear anything about the Lot 45 development. It seems like a no brainer. Is it that UH (don't they own it or is it UCI) has a lot on its plate right now and it is not a priority? Could it be they are waiting to see what CIA does with its proposed expansion since part of the development was to include housing for their students? Could it be they are still soliciting proposals for tenants for the mixed use portion (or is anybody actually working on this and who would that be?). Lots of questions but, again, really don't understand the delay since parking is really at a premium and it would also help Little Italy which has real parking issues.

According to another thread on this board, suburban corporate campuses are out of vogue. Somebody should tell Steve Jobs.
