Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
I would add Hudson to the list...it has become even more "small town urban" the past few years. If you lived in the center of town you could probably actually survive without a car, although not of course practical. Same with Chagrin Falls.

^Such coverage would not give the PD an opportunity to pat itself on the back so they would not really be interested in it.

^If all you did was read the Plain Dealer you might have to make that admission. Luckily, I personally had more confidence, especially being aware of the people involved.

It amazes me how during the course of the past three years, each month comes a "new" issue to be negative about even as the project makes progress. The "cheerleaders" in this regard seem to be the PD and their fans on Cleveland.com I never thought I would be utter this cliche in a million years as I have always hated it and thought it was used by people who could not come up with clever arguments, but I am going to say it and maybe it is really true....all this negativity is SO CLEVELAND.

The old county courthouse on lakeside is full with the probate court, domestic relations court, the Eight District Court of Appeals and the County law library on the 4th floor. The courthouse next to library is not county owned but is a federal courthouse which houses the federal bankruptcy court. I would think that a nice size expansion could go north just by appropriating the old Chicago Title Building, if tall enough, and leaving the current administration building alone (and maybe adding floors to the current building if done right now)

They are not even finished with demolition on the site and they have letters of intent for 100% of the space. Just speculation on my part but I would guess that means actual leases for 60-75% of the building (again 2 years before it even opens) leaving very little space for the "big boys" out there. If MMPI plays its cards right I would imagine that expansion north is inevitable.

I hate to be "that person" but does anybody know if CIA is going to actually start construction on the new addition this January as touted in the above article and on its website. In other words...status? It would be great to see construction begin along with uptown and MOCA.

^Good for them. Still don't like the tone of the article. An attempt to make a very valid point in a needlessly negative tone, especially at the point where there is actually nothing to report. In a couple of days he would have actually have known the tenat list and perhaps would have been more justified in expressing an opinion, and then in a skeptical tone if he liked or felt it neccessary.

^^ Looks like the author of that article is looking for a job with the PD.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^^First...huh? Second...construction jobs are some of the highest paid around (an electrician on this project will make more than $40.00 an hour), require years of training and are coveted. One of the reasons the economy is in the dumps is the lack of substantial commercial construction. The focus of the article was an increase in construction work in Cleveland.

I am not intrigued...I tend to agree with McCleveland.

I don't know the exact philosophy of these warehouse stores (Sam Club, BJ's, Costco) but they seem to have only two or three per city in metro areas like Cleveland so as not to over saturated (there are already three in Metro Cleveland serving the east south and west side) and they also seem to locate next to freeways. Cleveland Hts does not seem like the "model" to me.

Would Costco put a warehouse so close to the one in Mayfield Hts?

Schneider is going to be on WCPN tomorrow morning (the 9:00 a.m. show after Morning Edition...I can't remember its name) explaining the project and I am sure taking calls from irate Heights residents. Should be interesting.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I just glanced at the court docket. A receiver has been appointed. From the looks of it this case is going to drag on for a LONG time. I would hate to be the paralegal responsible for maintaining the client file. I am sure it already takes up a file cabinet and the case is not even a year old yet.

While it may be the litigation that is causing the lofts and penthouses to be unavailable for sale per the website, even if they were able to market them I wonder how successful they would be. Ignoring the fact that it is almost impossible to obtain a condo loan unless you are putting a huge amount down anywhere, would you want to by a unit in a building that has mechanics liens and is involved in on going litigation relating to construction. I would not want the possible headache and would just move on to the next building. Moreover, the pending litigation probably means that absolutely no bank is going to lend to a buyer to purchase an individual unit, even without the credit crunch.

I was driving east on St. Clair last night about 10:30 pm and as I hit Ontario I saw a bright light to my left and heard and saw a big demo machine, and the first thought that hit me was..."oh hell, what are they tearing down now that does not need to be torn down" I then realized they were demoing the ugly Justice Center parking garage as part of the MM and I felt much better. At that point it looked as thought 20% of the garage was gone.
