Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
^^^Took my mom to Lola's for dinner a couple of weeks ago (her first time at 4th Street location). In her day she was a big downtown power shopper...almost once a week (she use to drag me along and promise me lunch at Halle's or Higbee's if I was good). Took the bus down...high heels, gloves (that is the way women dressed to go shopping downtown in those days). She obviously does not get downtown much now due to her age and had not seen 4th street lately. When we were parking she said "where are all the wig shops".

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Ferchill a hot head...no question. Whiner is a term that also comes to mind...he has had a lot of practice over the years....also does not accomplish as much as he brags about. Don't quite understanding his ranting about going to the suburbs...wasn't the purpose of this "world class tech center" was to be near the Clinic and UH and take advantage of the proximity.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^right on point...people who have never been in the business don't have a clue what it is like.

Above Cleveland
I can't believe I did not see these pics originally. They are incredible (the great day certainly helped). I would like to see an update (on a similar beautiful day) of the University Circle pics.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
^^While I am not very up to date on this proposal, I am a bit perplexed. This is where the casino is going.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Drove by the VA Administration Building on E. 105th today. Only got a sideways glance (so as not to kill other drivers and pedestrians) but I am liking the finished product. Not going to win any architecture awards but it adds to the urban fabric in a good way.

US Economy: News & Discussion
^^I wish somebody would shove that article in the faces of the Eaton Board of Directors, highlighting the section that discusses how young people want to be in the central city and not the 'burbs. Of course too late now as the bulldozers are on the move.

Is Cleveland Liberal?
^Boy I know a couple of conservative Republican re-cyclers who would not be happy reading the above.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^Okay, my assignment is to write a negative article about the Cleveland Medical Mart....the first thing I do is pull out my handy "expert file" (you know...the one I always use with the same names who say exactly what I expect them to say because I have used them in the past and I am too lazy to do my own research or find "new experts") and pull out the name of the guy in Texas who critizes public subsidies of convention centers in general (I bet he is big into the sports stadium thing as well) and get his very surprising views...

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Actually she can just catch the Red Line at the 117th and Madison station and it will take her almost to the steps of UH without a transfer (even closer in 4-5 years when they finish the new Mayfield station...right now would get off at the University Circle - Cedar station). Didn't I read somewhere that you found a place in Birdtown....is that not just right around the corner from the 117th - Madision Red Line Station?

Columbus: Hollywood Casino
I guess I am confused. I was under the impression that Franklin County was one of the few urban areas (of the four choosen to host the casinos) that acually did not vote in favor of the casino issue, exhibiting it was not much interested in it. Why would they offer tax breaks and incentives for something the citizens did not want in the first place? Don't you save those scarce resources for developments and businesses you want?

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^Well who are these unknow "experts"....in post 511 above, quoting actual stats, it states unemployment is down in the Cleveland MSA despite the fact that the labor force grew during the relevant period by 12,000, which tends to refute the above in my mind.

Cleveland Area: American Greetings HQ relocation?
After reading the Crain's article I was left with feeling that so much BS was being shoveling that perhaps AG and its flunkies are going into farming. It is amazing how people like to see themselves quoted in the news.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^^And Kasick's response to this well thought our argument..."another member of the 'cult'" (if he even reads things like this which I doubt).

^I don't know about this...I know that pre recession, Pittsburgh city officials were wringing their hands over failing shopping areas downtown and what to do about them. Also, a former neighbor of mine from Pittsburgh moved backed about 3 years ago and we have kept into touch. He is a "city guy" and bought a house in Squirrel Hill. He has regularly commented about downtown Pittsburgh appearing dead after five o'clock. I guess it is a matter of impression.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I agree that the tracks really should not be an issue. I recall about 20 years ago a proposal for a 25-30 story office building across Huron (where the lebron sign was) right over the track. Hotel would be great at that corner. Again I hope some planning to tame Ontario a little.

Follow up article by Litt in today's PD (usual rant about not enough public disclosure...yeah we know your feelings on this by now Steve) which indicates that this video is just conceptual in nature and no firm design decisions have been made. It suggests that many questions still need to be answered before the final design (even shape) of the casino can be implemented. Things like the possible river widening, location of utilities, likely connections to TC and a possible connection with Higbees. Seems that the plazas and shops are part of the eventual plan though. Perhaps extenting to the corner is still possible.
