  1. here we gooooo....
  2. ^God help the next generation. Ohio already lags 10-15 years behind the more progressive states in the nation and this fool hearty decision is just going to add to our backwardness for generations to come as other states proceed with modern rail systems.
  3. I never expected construction to start right away given the site of the proposed casino. It is clearly the trickest site of any of the four cities with the most ambitious plans architecturally. Of course I did not vote for it in the first place so I would not have been swayed by any such rhetoric
  4. ^Actually that is very good in my opinion. Great to watch the traffic...especially the ore boats cruising up the river (that never gets old for me). Also, the other end of the building facing east is pretty neat because you get city views if you are high enough. I had a 2 story (one bedroom) loft with NO VIEW. It was on the first floor right on the St. Clair hill. In fact the lower level (living room) was below grade (almost like an English basement). I would be sitting on my couch with the blinds closed and people (idiots) would pound on my window and scare the crap out of me. Still loved the place...it had a lot of charm, lots of brick and was still new (I was the first tenant). I think by the time I left I was paying $875 and $100.00 parking (my spot was almost feet from my front door) but that was 8 years ago. Imagine prices have gone up but I can't imagine that much given all the competition that has come on the market since then.

Mine was in the Stark-Warehouse District thread. Big sigh. Oh the days when dreaming was alive.
  6. By the way, if you do decide on downtown, check out Bridgeview in the warehouse district (corner of W. 9th and St Clair). I lived there for 2 years and really liked it. Still a relatively new renovated warehouse.
  7. Sounds like Coventry or Cedar Fairmount (given you are willing to pay as much as $1,100.00) in Cleveland Hts. would be ideal given they are so close to Nela Park. However, I am getting a vibe from you that "old with charm" might not be your thing and you might be looking for newer, which would be hard to find in those neighborhoods (at least rentals). If really "young" is really important I would say downtown or Lakewood (west end) would be a preferable choice (still might have a hard time finding newer in Lakewood...downtown would be your best bet). Still would not be an awful drive to Nela Park (20 minutes from downtown...30 minutes from Lakewood depending on traffic).
  8. ^The article indicates that this would take Congressional action, although surprisingly suggests this could be a routine matter (sure). Lake shippers appear to be very opposed. Need about 26 feet due to parking issues (what the hell) and to accommodate a cantilevered section of the building. Even if routine I cannot see where this would not delay things. Apparently this is all in pre application (Army Corp) stage. Love your comment McCleveland.
  9. I know I live in a dream world but UCI should just say thanks but no thanks and leave it an empty lot until they can find somebody willing to do better (better brand and/or architecture) even if this means 20 years (that is how much I hate this building at that location).
  10. Own my own business and have to work seven days a week (4 of them are 13 hour days) in order to contain costs due to often lackluster sales. I am looking forward to getting at least one day off a week once things get better, but who knows when that will be.

    ^Wow...you're brave.
  12. ^We should re name this thread "let's stereotype bus riders and public transit users as "unpleasant"". It seems to be a theme in this thread.

^Absolutely true about the Heights and thank god. Lack of freeways is one of the things that makes the Heights special.

Depending on where in Aurora abou 45-50 minutes from downtown...longer with heavy traffic. About the same from the Heights and Little Italy since freeway access is not as handy. Good luck.

    Really like that second building.
  16. The guy who does the captions for the pictures must not be too bright. Damn I cannot recall specifically what it was but last week the caption for a picture had all the wrong information...it didn't even track the information detailed in the accompanying story.

^Dolan did not leave the county and move back. He grew up in Chardon and lived in Geauga County as an adult. He moved into Cuyahoga County for the purpose of running for the position. Don't know if that is a big thing or not or should be a negative (actual may be a positive) but those are the facts. Never had a problem with Dolan before but don't like many of things he is doing (typical politics sh%#@t) with his campaign.
  18. ^Why would you be excoriated "for having an opinion". That is exactly what this forum is for at long as you express it in the correct thread (which you did) and it is on topic (which it is). I have never been crazy about the cancer hospital because I do not like the way it relates to Euclid. That said, I agree with Hts121. It is a hospital and "mixed use" is rarely if ever seen in such facilities nation wide. I actually don't mind the parking garage so much. Unfortunately it is built in a much too prominent site, but it does a good job of framing. Don't have high hopes for the ER from the peeks beyond the fencing I have seen.
  19. ^EC is there any thread or topic you don't try to highjack with you opinions that are totally irrelevant to the subject at hand.

^MTS I really don't see any hard evidence of this, especially in the South or Midwest, but even on the coasts.

Wow...kinda nervy...they shove it down Columbus' throat (something the majority did not want in the first place in Franklin County) and then ask for incentives (all this after promising the world if a casino was built). Well I guess if you don't ask....
  22. ^Yeah. Can't decide whether that would be a comment dreamed up by a PD reporter or editor or one of our friends on Cleveland.com
  23. Did not know wether to put this in the Uptown or MOCA thread. The past few weeks, driving down Mayfield, I noticed some minor construction going on along the ground floor of one of the apartment buildings near the intersection of Mayfield and Euclid. Could not imagine what it was (were they expanding the building's laundry room), and then I speculated that maybe it was a space for a relocated Huntington Bank (from the triangle building). Well lo and behold it is, and it appears they already moved in. THIS ALL HAPPENED VERY FAST. Within a matter of 6-7 weeks. Wish all construction around town proceeded at such a rapid pace. In any event, it looks as though there is nothing left in the Triangle and demolition can proceed any time now.
  24. Does this mean CSU reached a deal to move the art department to the Middough (spelling) Building? I was under the impression that those negotiations hit a snag. Can though still do Varsity Village if the art building stays where it is?
