Philly Hack/Shock Writer Rips Cincinnati
Is that what passes for journalism in Philadelphia (by the way the city with the worse airport to fly into in the nation...good chance you might not fly out for two days).

Buffalo! In October...
Buffalo=good food....lots of it...not fancy but good.

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
Is Cincinnati going to start having ballot initiatives for their entire budget? This makes no sense to me.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
^Then why say it and infringe on legit talk about the Reds? Let them have their thread.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
^Actually you should see the peds. the architect used for the Stefanie Tubbs Jones transit center. Clearly not one of them had ever rode a bus in their life.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^Why don't one of you Cincy guys call the paper. I would be very interested in hearing what they have to say.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
^I caught a bit of a documentary on Daniel Burnham the other night. I did not know his firm designed the May Co Building.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
^Drove by today and the old HB site screams surface parking lot to me. Got me thinking as to when the master plan is going to be revealed. Soon I hope. Interesting that the old Brunswick site might be a building. I thought it was going to be parking for the hotel.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Unattractive is being kind.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^Actually, now that I think about, it did not result in a huge verdict. The library was seeking millions due to cost over runs resulting from the water but lost at trial. I think Fred Nance at Squires took the hit.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
While pure speculation on my part, I would imagine, despite the extensive studies that were conducted when choosing the site and the appropriateness of the current foundation, that those in the know were worried about hitting water and the possible cost to abate. That was a big issue nearby when the library addition was constructed and resulted in lengthy litigation and a multi million dollar jury verdict.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
^^I drove by today and was indeed surprised by how far they have progressed with the foundation since I went by last week. Also, while not related to this thread, the development across the street from the VA Hospital is proceeding nicely. I have only seen it from a far and am going to take some time this weekend to get a closer peek.

Mayfield: Progressive Planning Expansion
^^If Progressive does not pay well that is apparently a more recent change in philosophy. I was offered a job years ago with them (no I am not going to tell how long) which I turned down, but had to think long and hard about it because the salary was very good and actually more than the job I eventually took. One of the reasons I did turn down the job was because I was counseled (by a high up former employee who I trusted) about the corporate culture which existed at the time, and was sorta turned off by it.

Westland Mall, Columbus
Just my opinion, but it seems of any era of development in American history, much of what was built in the 70's and 80's seems so terribly unattractive (I guess we thought it was attractive at the time) once it becomes dated. You take a "dated" building from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and even 60s and refurbish it and it seems to glow. I don't think this can be accomplish with much of the architecture from the 70s and 80s. Maybe that is why we're tearing down so much of it so early in its life span.

Baltimore - a LOT of pics
Great pics May Day. And yeah for "Bertha's Mussells". Best Crab Cakes I have had in my entire life and I've eaten a lot of crab cakes all over. Great atmosphere too. I have always enjoyed myself in Baltimore and think it is a great town. However, it seems to be the poor step sister of all the other east coast towns. Seems like people from other cities on the east coast always like to put it down for some reason. Classic "we have to feel better than somebody else" syndrone. Of course it is nothing compare to what they like to say about Midwest towns (starting with Buffalo and Pittsburgh and they aren't even in the Midwest).

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
3231 you hit the nail right on the head. How in the world is anything contained in that PD article "news"? Why even bother with it...filling up space. It is clear the commission's biggest challenge (a group which is only beginning its process) will be to find the $$$ to do anything, especially anything grand. Everybody likes to throw out their pie in the sky hopes and dreams but nobody can come up with a particul way to fund them without taxpayers going nuts (who has the balls to take the criticism or even face the very good likelyhood of being thrown out of office). Unfortunately, while there is much talent on the commission, I have great doubts it will be able to meet the funding hurdle. I for one cannot even venture a guess where the $$$ will come from. The acutal new convention center is a perfect example of the difficulties. For years groups were formed (both private and public) to come up with a workable plan for a new center. The stubbling block was always funding and nobody had the balls to propose anything that would raise the ire of the taypayers. Say what you will about the current commissioners, but they were the ones who finally had the will to impose the tax (without a public vote no less). And they only did it with the "cover " of the Medical Mart propsal and the promise of a new industry. I hope I am wrong about all this but I just see months (Years??) of meetings with little in the end.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^Hmm...comments posters on this board were saying about New York over and over months ago while others (PD among them in there own headline grabbing way) were wringing their hands. It is just common sense...you don't even need inside information.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
^Please...how in the world did you come to that conclusion based on the above posts? No seriously. If one of Cleveland's largest advertising agencies went of business don't you think this would have been splash all over the news. If you are questioning did they move...what sense does that make. They just spent hundreds of thousands to move into this space. I just don't understand your question.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^^?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^The way your post was worded it appeared you were confused regarding the current elements of the project versus the original plan. I didn't realize you were simply questioning whether the project would ever get started.
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^Well why don't you just read this thread which contains detailed outlines of the current plan from various news sources and press releases including updates since the project was released from the developers self imposed hold. For example, a couple of weeks ago the hotel brand was announced and members of this forum discussed that aspect at length.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^There are TWO entertainment districts already in existence CLOSER to the Casino (one, east 4th, right across the street). Why dilute...if "necessary" just expand those.
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^Phase One IS the office tower and a small hotel. The office tower is 75% percent of Phase One. Don't have much faith in some unknown source who works for a company which is afraid to loan $$$ on a project which is 50% leased. If the "story" is even true it sounds like a bunch of cover my butt from a lending source which had no intention of lending any $$$ in the first place (probably for this project or any other...more interested in making $$$ on credit card late fees and over drawn checking accounts).
