Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
This does not sound like good news for the residential component of Uptown right down the street. Isn't most of it condos?

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
Does anybody know what's going on with Mayfield Lofts? Are they having trouble getting financing? You would think with the Coltman condo's selling well, and this being arguably a better location in Little Italy, that the project would be going forward.

OSU: New Ohio Union and parking garage
The actually building looks better than the renderings, but to me it still looks like a suburban office building...some what out of place on campus. Much better, however, than Hitler's bunker that CSU is building on Euclid Avenue. That said, the interiors look great and everyone should be jealous of todays OSU student with all the amenities.

CLEVELAND - Historic Euclid Avenue church destroyed by fire
^Ok...your crazy and off base. Great loss....I feel for the congregation. Hopefully they were fully insured and can build else where (I am sure re-building something like they had in that spot would be cose prohibitive these days)

Help finding street in Rocky River
^"Chick"...I am surprised the few young ladys on this board are not up in arms (For the record, since I am an old foggie I would have used "broad" when relating this story, but probably only to friends or my secretary who is "very use" to me and my ways) Good luck.

Cleveland - Around Downtown
^Agree...it is looking more and more like the bunker it replaced. I was not thrilled with the initial renderings, but had hoped it would look better in execution. This does not appear to be the case. Photos are great. Makes one appreciate certain buildings that you tend to pass and ignore on a daily basis because you are just so use to them. Thanks for the effort.

Shaker Heights, Solon best highschools in Cleveland area for national merit.
Just from personal observation, the only high school that seems to really attract students from all of Greater Cleveland in LARGE numbers is St. Ignatius. Of course you have some students attending all private schools from all over town, but nothing like Iggy which draws from far and wide and in significant numbers.

Cleveland: Why are there no marinas immediately adjacent to downtown?
I agree with the "parking lot for boats" sentiment expressed above. Obviously necessary but not particularly attractive. Don't see a big clamor for one in the heart of downtown, especially when others are so close.

Richmond's Fabulous Fan District!!!
Interesting mix of architecture. You can see the city develop over time. Good preservation.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
^The track lighting is somewhat insipid in my opinion. It could be much more extensive.

Grand and Historic Ohio Public High Schools
Wow, I hardly recognized Hts. High. Does anybody know if there are still plans to demolition that ugly addition which fronts Cedar Road.

Marion, Indiana
The court house does indeed look like the Lorain County Courthouse in Elyria. Do you know if it was the same architect?

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
^With Tucker Ellis, Huntington Bank and Ernst and Young all leaving the Huntington Building soon it will have vast contiguous space available (multiple contiguous floors...and W28th is correct, the floors are huge). Also, a glorious public space in the lobby (also huge...with the correct configuring much more than they have now) and a parking garage connected to the building.

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
Strap Hanger...your information about the percentage of renters in East Cleveland in the 60s is new to me and explains much, especially in light of the different integration paths path followed by EC and its neighbors Cleveland Hts and Shaker Hts. Sounds like that was most likely a very big factor, among many, when explaining the differents results 40 years later.

msp: mpls uptown, lake st, midtown, eat street & loring lake
^Yes Lake Calhoun is one of the three lakes to whiich I was refferring and the neighborhood would be on the other side of the lake in relation to uptown if I recall correctly. It is in Minneapolis proper and what I find very interesting about this neighborhood is that in many other cities, this type of grand neighborhood (again developed in the late 1800"s up to World War II) would have be abandoned for just as grand inner ring suburbs and the then the farther suburubs. The houses still exist but are generally in deterioating neighborhoods, are in bad shape, sub-divided and over the years, as the decline began commercial, would have crept in. This did not happen in Minneaopolis and from what I can tell, excluding Edina and certain far off suburbs, it is sitll the premier address in town. I guess in Cleveland, I would compare it to what was once the neighbordhoods bordering East Blvd flowing into nothern University Circle. The houses still exist (for the most part) but, let's face it, the area is pretty devastated and low income. Many of the large mansions closer to U Circle were taken over for institutional use. In Minneapolis, this is not only still a viable neighborhood but still a priemere address

msp: mpls uptown, lake st, midtown, eat street & loring lake
I don't think I have seen any pics yet (but I may have missed them) of the three lakes (I use to remember their names but cannot recall right now) which are close to uptown and the nieghborhoods surrounding them. I call them the Mary Tyler Moore lakes since they are seen in the opening credits of the show. The houses in that neigborhood are incredible (many from around the turn of the century) and all are well preserved and maintained (and they cost a pretty penny....my decorator helped with the renovation of one of them and showed me pictures (a Cleveland doctor who transfered there so he flew her up since her knew her from Cleveland)). The renovation itself was seven figures. The house which Mary Tyler Moore "lived in" is in this neighborhood. Of course it is actually a single family house, not multi-family as portrayed in the show. I have toured the neighborhood a number of times and am always impressed (although Grand and Summit streets in St Paul give it competition).

Was the bank Union Trust before it was Union Commerce?

Cleveland: University Hospitals Expansion (University Circle)
Not my cup of tea, especailly for the site, but I would not call it ugly.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I glanced at their website last week and I thought I noticed that one of the finished units on Euclid was sold and I believe one on 118th still not built was "reserved" (what ever that means...can they still back out of the contract). They don't seem to be selling like hot cakes. I know this is problematic for a builder, but I think many people are reluctant to buy (say in a phase I) unless they know for sure that the whole development is going to be built. Of course a builder is reluctant to start the remaining phases until the first units are under contract.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
A fear of mine in this regard is that a new building would not be built in the center of downtown and address the street, but would be a fortess on the fringes of downtown and quite likely a low rise given the governments concern with security. Maybe nothing as bad as FBI headquarters on Lakeside, but perhaps something close.

Moving to Cleveland in mid June (we want to buy and need help)...
20 minutes to Case, I definitely think you are limited to the east side and for the most part the Heights area. Given your peramaters I think you would be very happy with University Hts. and could find a very nice house with some charm in your price range. However, property taxes in University and Cleveland Heights are nearly as high as Shaker. By the way, most of the negative things you will hear about the Heights are the people who live in the cookie cutter subdivisions you detest, like large parts of Solon.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Haven't a number of posters explained in detail in the past that it is almost impossible to build anything of consequence on Burke's land due to the makeup of the land and environmental issues (or at least that would not be cost prohibitive).

East Cleveland
I am certainly not suggesting that there are not areas of CH that cannot use work, but it is nothing on the scale of East Cleveland (width and extent). Moreover, the problematic areas of Cleveland Hts. are pretty limited. Almost the entire city of East Cleveland has issues (except some small areas bordering Cleveland Hts like Forest Park).

East Cleveland
East Cleveland has always intriqued me. It had so much going for it in the early 60's (location, great housing, a number of solid institutions, Cleveland's major artery) and it fell into a devastating decay so quickly...almost a complete turnaround in a decade. What is so interesting is that this did not happen right next door in its mirror image neighbor Cleveland Hts. My only guess is different leadership at the time and since then.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
Funny, I just passed by the site about an hour ago and was going to post regarding it...have been watching the demo for about two weeks now and as it progressed noticed that it will be more than half the block. I don't believe the Clinic has any plans for the site currently so I am assuming this is going to be surface parking. Can anybody confirm? If so it is really going to look bad (ok what surface parking in a city looks good) no matter how they pretty it up. By the way also noticed the buildings are coming down for the state hospital down the street.
