Cleveland - Family Oriented Neighborhoods closer to Case Western
Who could pass up that house on Grenway (All of Fernway is desirable in my opinion). You can tell the current owners gave it a lot of TLC.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
You would think with all those new tenants in the building FCE would give some serious thought to finding somebody to re-open the Silver Grille, at least for breakfast and lunch. If they wanted to keep the same art deco motif (which would be ideal), there would not be that much in the way of a build out. Probably the largest cost would be updating and re fitting the kitchen.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I have to tell you that this whole "park" discussion as it relates to the Sportsmen has left me confused. That piece of property is right in the center of the block between the 113 Building and the parking garage on the corner of St. Clair and on Ontario which were just bought by the county. It is narrow and extends somewhat deep into the block. The Sportmen is right in the middle of where the MM building is suppose to go. How in the hell are they going to build a park? That would be one hell of an odd shaped building. I did look up thread to see where this whole park idea originated and apparently it started in a PD article (stellar reporting of course) quoting attorney Jeff Applebaum (as a side note a great attorney) and quoting him as saying that other property on the block could be taken over and used as a park. The article then apparently goes on to say that no particular property was mentioned but that the Sportsmen sits between the 113 building and the garage. So it appears this all started from an unarticulated thought, and speculation on the part of the PD. I am still very confused by this.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
When I drove by the new CH location last week they were installing huge new plate glass windows (in a snow store), so work is progressing. You can almost be sure that when performing the buildout of a restaurant there will be construction delays.

Cleveland: Retail News
Mr. Mayor...could their vision be that, since the casino is going to be more or less attached to their facility, they are banking on retailers in the future coming to them on bended knee to lease space. Maybe not....but if this is their thinking I believe they are living in a fantasy world (especially given the evolving retail environment nationwide). Over the years it has seemed that they never really had a vision for the place since its initial opening, and instead of blaming themselves just subtly suggest that downtown Cleveland is dying and there is nothing they can do about it.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Question...even if they were thinking of extending the blue line (rail)(which I really doubt is going to happen for a hundred different reasons)...why would you go down Northfield towards North Randall? I would somehow head up Chagrin (probably a very expensive alternative) or down Northfield and up Harvard to Tri C and 271.

Like I said, the carbonara I am familar with has cream, but the Italian version cited above sounds much more delicious.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^The pasta carbonara I am familar with is in a cream sauce with peas. The usual difference is some places use egg and others do not. I googled the recipe and most had cream.

^Are these the same people who just opened Si Senor in the old Pizza Hut in Westlake on Detroit? If so, the food is pretty good.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
If a restaurant has certain hours posted (both on its door, website and other advertising) and it is not actually open during those times, that is a serious business faux pas and should not be tolerated. That said, it is clear from a number of the comments above that most people don't have a clue what goes into running a restaurant (although I can promise you that most people think they do and have no problem expressing their ill informed opinions...people in the industry just shake their heads or get a good chuckle).

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I want to give a plug to Clyde's, the latest restaurant to open in the diners on Lee Rd across from Zagara's in Cleveland Hts. I have been there 4 times since they opened in December, as I live a few blocks away, and all 4 meals have been delicious. The menu is very eclectic and they did a great job with the renovation. Service can be an issue, but is slowly improving as far as I can tell.

Speeding Tickets
Don't worry a bench warrant will be issued eventually. They won't come looking for you but if you are stopped for any reason they will arrest you immediately and impound your car if nobody is around to drive it.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Does anybody know what "Catherdal Plaza-IMG" is all about? I saw it on the Planning Commission website. It looks like store front renovation and signage, but I was wondering if it was anything more.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I would have to agree with your point Mr. Mayor...for evidence go over to the Cleveland State Development thread...apparently people are or are going to be mugged left and right on East 13th Street.

You've got it right MTS.

Cleveland: Weston / Gilbane Warehouse District Plans
You're probably missing the fact that unless the developer gets the very value land absolutely free the project would not work because, for his numbers to work, he would be depending on revenue from the parking garage he builds as part of the development

Shaker Hts Neighborhoods
I cannot imagine crime is much of an issue in either Fernway or Mercer. Fernway is a very popular area with young families. A good mix of housing choices and architecture (of course all the homes are very old so you have to be prepared to keep on top of things...most people do). Almost every street has an elaborate block party in the summer time (all day affairs...some are very creative). Walking the neighborhood seems to be very popular and it is bascially in the center of Shaker so close to parks and commercial areas. The rapid to downtown is a 5-10 walk from most houses. Drive to University Circle about 10 minutes. Drive to Mayfield 15-20. Beachwood and Pepper Pike 10-15. Mercer is probably an older crowd but still desirable. I would go with Fernway.

Just a few pictures of inside the Higbee Building.
Once Higbee's was purchased by Dillards it was only a matter of time before they closed the downtown store. As a company they have very little interest in downtown department stores. If I recall correctly, at the time Cleveland's downtown store was closed, the only remaining downtown store they had (out 250-300 nationwide) was in downtown St. Louis. I'm curious whether that store is still open. Maybe this has changed since then with mergers and the like. What was interesting was the way they slowly downsized what was a magnificant department store on 10 floors (with departments like furniture, appliances, high end china, a book store, toy department, even a pet shop at one time) to 5 floors of clothes and perfume.

Viewing those pics, the United States should be totally embarrassed. This modern day grand vision and accomplishment was the US 100 years ago.
