Cleveland: Demolition Watch
I certainly don't know for sure but was told about a year ago by a clinic employee who worked in this particular building that her department was moving out to a Clinic building in Beachwood and that after the building was vacant it was to be torn down. It does appear that they are doing much "work" around the fenced off building but this might just be asbestos abatement which is required before demo. I note that Precision Environmental is on site. I believe they did the prep work before the Howard Johonsons on 55th was demoed.

Cleveland: Lancer Steak House
Folks, I wouldn't speculate as to arson...after all it was a restaurant...lot's of opportunities for something to go wrong in such a setting...especially in family own institutions that don't have night crews and good safety policies (corporate restaurants suck but that is where they are good...they have rules and regs out the a%#) where just one careless employee leaving something on could cause a disaster...although also speculation on my part, this is my guess as to the more likely cause.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Wow, drove past there last night about 1:00 a.m. and marveled how packed it was...and just a few hours latter no more....I am sure it will be missed by many people.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^I believe the proposed building is on the south side of Euclid between Euclid and Carnegie.

Cleveland: Kamm's Corners: Development and News
Sounds like they either did not have all the funds when they started the project (which I believe is rare in a municipal project of this type) or they had some significant unanticipated (but necessary) change orders which caused havoc with the budget. I am guessing the latter, especially if the project is taking so much longer than originally plannned.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^^5 years. Try 20 and this is the closest we have been to actually getting something done. Say what you want about the process, it took the commissioners to implement an unpopular tax to get this thing moving. We would still be talking and going around in circles right now without this as everybody wanted a new convention center but nobody could figure out how to finance it or had the balls to tax.

^Does anybody know what the guidelines are for this area to prevent this?

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I would forward them KJP's above post with different projects.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Is this really a press release from the mayor's office? It seems rather unprofessional and smacks of game playing.

^^I think I would have issues with that balconey railing very high up as well. I certainly wouldn't allow any kids outside.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I drove by the condo portion of the Avenue District yesterday for the first time in a long time and was disappointed (although quite frankly not surprised) to see that a significant portion of the block has reverted back to surface parking. I cannot blame Zaremba for wanting to make some money rather than letting the land just sit there, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. That block has been surfacing parking for 25-30 years and I had high hopes that that was gone for good. Unfortunately (and not to be a negative nelly), I have a feeling the remainder of the block will stay surface parking for quite some time to come.

Cleveland Waterfront Line Extension / Downtown Loop
^KJP, I am sure you would agree, given your knowledge of transportation issues, that the federal government won't let the city put a subway under Euclid either (at least if you want their $$$ to do it). So I guess we do have to think tiny.

Toledo's Lucas County Arena.
Really like it. Seems like an intimate seating bowl which reminds me of the arenas of old. Also like the way it addresses the street and the city on the outside rather than some big plaza fronting it (like you tend to see in the south).

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
^^I have said this numerous times on this board. It is always so easy to spend other peoples money...when a "biz owner" takes a risk, it is his livelyhood and the livelyhood of his family so...yeah...he is worried about his own "ass" and thinks about it long and had before venturing on something that might have potential, but there is no gaurantee. I admire those who take the risk but don't criticize those who do not.

Yes that is what they are using...that is why I was wondering...but again I am not a construction expert.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Drove by the construction site for the new dorms this morning while getting onto the Innerbelt at Prospect. While I have not been thrilled by the renderings I have seen, I did note that they are going right up to the sidewalk on Prospect and I mean right up to it. Maybe 6-8 feet from the street at most (at least at the corner of Prospect and the on ramp). Really going up fast? Should I be concerned about this. The materials they are using seem more appropriate for a three bedroom house than a multi floor dorm, but what do I know.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Actually there could be issues with the narrowering (although I am all for it). I use to work in the US Bank Building. Traffic would always back up on 14th at rush hour even with the current set up due to the fact that it is a major feeder road to the interstates at the top of the street. While I am sure most people on this board could care less about making it more convenient for cars, I can forsee the backups becoming even worse.

What are the best streets in Ohio's cities?
Lake Avenue from Edgewater Park in Cleveland to the county border (Bay Village). I say this as an east sider...oh the horror. :-)

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
What is the EE Building? Are you sure they are not referring to the southwest corner of the intersection? There is a parking lot there and a small building next to the parking garage. This article is from early October and states they were moving people out the building currently and would start demo after that was completed. The demo at the northwest corner was already in progress at that time.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
^Well apparently the Clinic was hiding this from the public as I specifically recall the spokesman for the Clinic (at the time the demolition was publicize) saying that they had no current plans for the corner (this was not too long ago), but they were going to use it as a "pretty" parking lot (lot of nice landscaping...thanks) and hold it for future development.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
^That was my understanding as well....so what is the alledged scaled down project for the site suggested by Clueless?

Cleveland: Cleveland School of the Arts
^Maybe I am wrong, but didn't they just do a small renovation of this building (like a new roof and a few other things)?

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
^Probably alot. I imagine Kassouff wants an arm and a leg for the building and has an inflated value of its worth. A former employer was a partner in the renovation of the Spy Building which included the infill where the elevator shaft is located. It was designed to also service the Kassouff building next door but if I recall negotiations (or Kassouff's interest in renovating his own property) went nowhere. This would have been about 92-93.
