  1. West quad may be a good guess. The recent article posted on the Clinic thread stated that it would be on main campus but that Cosgrove could not say where due to the fact that negotiations are ongoing with the land owner. West quad is not too far from main campus. Does CWRU own the land or some successor entity of Mt. Sinai?
  2. ^^Then why did Toby Cosgrove, in is slide presentation to Clinic employees last Wednesday, in connection with the new lab, state that it would be located on the main campus?
  3. Interesting that the building will be built on the main campus but apparently not on land already owned by the clinic. Given these two "hints" can anybody venture a guess as to possibilities. Strange that with all the vacant land the clinic (surface parking lots) has on its main campus they could not find space to squeeze in a 100,000 sq. foot building.
  4. ^I know you were using this as just one example but many dry cleaners pick up and deliver (especially downtown...most of the guys in my office subscribed to this service). Also and this is probably on the high end but I would say that of at least 80% of the married couples I know the mom is stay at home or has a very limited part time job with lots of free time to shop during the day (except when they are driving the kids absolutely EVERYWHERE...this really bugs me...let them go play in the back yard and the street like we did growing up)
  5. Why exactly is Gateway a "farce"? Do you remember what use to be there and what Prospect use to look like before it was built?
  6. When did Jackson get his engineering degree? Is this the PD shilling for Forest City again (little articles like this at any opportunity.... drip drip drip.... you don't even know it is happening...like Chinese water torture).
  7. Miami has a very good undergad business school (and right now are just completing a beautiful new building for the school) and there is a significant Chicago pipeline. Many, many students are from Chicago (mostly the north shore and more upscale western burbs) and they usually go back. As such a lot of recruiters are actually from the Chicago area (more than most Ohio schools of similar size like BG, Kent or OU). While it has been a while, most of my friends (whether from Chicago or else where) who were business majors ended up in that city. Interestingly (of about about ten that I can recall) only one remained there after 7-8 years.

There have been many retail tenants over the years. Two that stick in my mind are a Hough Bakery and a Floreshein (spelling) shoe store.
  9. And another thing...for a so called expert this guy sure does not have his facts right. He said hotels are "blocks away"... I can name two right across the street from the mall (and I am sure a connecting hotel will eventually be built on the administration office site...why worry what is there now...if this guy is an expert then surely he knows that a center is, or is suppose to attract adjacent development). Also he states restaurants are blocks away and not connected. First, what great restaurants are in Tower City currently? The two major restaurant areas in Cleveland are the Warehouse District and E. 4th. People would have to walk a few short blocks from either site (in fact you could argue it is easier to get to the Warehouse District from the mall since you don't have to cross Superior which is like a eight lane highway). This guy seems like an idiot and is clearly on somebody's payroll.
  10. If the Plain Dealer wants to shill for the Tower City site then they should put it on the editorial page rather than the front page and call it news. This is the second article in the past few weeks where the PD is creating the news rather than reporting it in regards to the convention center. The other was that mindless piece where the FC guy complained nobody had contacted him for ages.
  11. Clearly a slow news day and the Plain Dealer was looking for ANYTHING to fill up space. If anybody is bored, start a list of the 5,000 reasons this "thing" will never happen and then start another list with reasons why you are happy Brewer is not the mayor of your city.
  12. Does anybody know what is going on at the northwest corner of Carnegie and E 83rd (across from the Playhouse parking lot)? It does not look like anything major but I was just interested.
  13. ^I haven't look but you may want to try the museum's website. By the way, the glass enclosed common area you are referring to is in a future phase. They have not even begun demolition for this phase yet alone construction. I am not sure but I believe it is suppose to be completed in 2012. The completed East Wing, at least from the outside, looks great.
  14. I guess my question is what is going to happen to that magnificent banking room at East Ninth. Wonder if Huntington will keep it as a branch?
  15. I usually like to keep negative thoughts to myself on this board, but I thought I would share a brief conversation I had last night with a casual friend regarding the East Bank. The conversation was just a quick "hey how are you...how are things going?" and did not last more than 90 seconds so not a lot of details, just general impressions. My friend is a "higher up" at E and Y and pretty much in the know. He asked me how my business was going and I started to lament about the economy (like pretty much everybody these days). He blurted out that their building was on hold (not aware that I probably know more about the situation than the average Clevelander, if only because of my general interest in urban development and my stalking this website for so long) and I told him "I knew this", but based on what I had observed it would go forward eventually. Unfortunately, this comment resulted in a major grimace (sorta like "well that is really wishful thinking"). I of course (being a good UOer) started pressing for details but he clearly did not want to share and was being very coy. He did finally say that there are many contingencies in the deal between E and Y and Wolstein and basically the whole project has to be built (he mentioned specifically the hotel and health club) before they had to committ to the space in their building. What I found more disconcerting is that my friend is generally a forward looking and positive fellow. He clearly knows what is going on given his position with the company (I did not put him on the spot and remind him of Don Mishaff's (e and y managing partner) recent positive comments) and I was very disappointed with his reaction even if he clearly was not at liberty to share much. Again I just thought I would share this for what it is worth.
  16. Looking back, those holdout property owners (especially the ones who "claimed" they were interested in going forward with their own developments which was pure bs) really screwed the project. If there was not this more than year delay as the litigation proceeded, financing would have probably been in place well before the "crisis".
  17. I don't know if it has been mentioned on this thread, but the turf at Yankee Stadium is being installed by Sports Construction Group, a small Cleveland company which has done major turf installations throughout the nation.

Really just a fantasy. Unless it is a new group of principals, these guys did not have the resources to complete this project even in GOOD economic times...they do like to dream however which is not all bad. Sometimes (very rarely) dreams do come true.

Washington...I would even put up with the summers.

I have always loved Boston as a city from an "infrastructure" and cultural point of view. Also like the surrounding countryside and region. It would be my number one place to live if I were planning on moving (which I am not) except for one thing...without a doubt the most unfriendliest people in the United States (that and the whiniest sports fans).
  21. I have family in Solon and from what I can gauge from most people the zoning issue was going to fail big time any way. I am sure the economy and general retail conditions are issues but I have to think this factored into Ruben's thinking. Now we will have to see if he is going forward with Cedar Center and/or if it will be scaled back.
  22. ^^Agree and it is just not Litt...This seems to be a favorite line of nearly all PD reporters and columnist. It could be an article about the latest shoe styles or tips on lawn care and they always seem to throw that it in (a little exaggeration but not much). It is like the editors had a huge meeting with the staff sometime back and ordered them to consistently pound this. I have often read an article where this was written and thought "what does this have to do with the topic".
  23. If I recall correctly the value engineering was done so that the project could receive federal funds at all and go forward. KJP is probably the best person to enlighten us on the specifics but I believe it had do with some sort of formula and the cost had to be reduced in order to meet certain federal guidelines and of course things like granite curbs were the first to go. I am sure RTA and the city was not thrilled by this but the choice was either reduce the final number or say good bye to the $$ which meant say good bye to the entire project.
  24. ^I would be more impressed if this guy paid his bills (substantial bills) from the last go around six years ago. Obviously (even from the tone of the article) very pie in the sky.
