Yeah I would fence that it. You might have problems with rabbits and racoons if you don't, as well as deer. I was speaking about general landscaping around the house which is of course generally hard to fence in unless you do your whole yard, and that still leaves the front yard exposed in any event (yes deer go there as well-they are like squirrels-at least here in Solon. I would talk to a knowledgeable garden center guy or gal. They are usually very helpful with questions like this. I am a big fan of Pettiti's.

They don't eat everything but they do eat a lot. In my experience hostas (the flowering stem), day lilies and hydrangea with get destroyed. However, I use deer repellent, which you can buy at any garden or hardware store, and it seems to work very well. Our house backs up to a huge wood and deer are pretty much in our yard every day.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Wasn't the second bomb news of the beginning of construction of the Shoreway Tower posted in the Detroit/Shoreway thread?

Disliking the look of what ever that material is framing the windows.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Maybe they are hearing some negative behind the scenes grumbling from Columbus. I am sure reps from places like Wilmington and Lima could give a flying f and are more concerned about the general fund.

I just don't want there to be an empty lot sitting there for years and years. There is an example of this a few doors down at the Primo Vino site which has been crickets for way to long now, despite Landmarks approval and demo more than two years ago. Maybe going on three.

Hopefully re-building the cornice.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
This is getting ridiculous. Clearly somebody or somebodies on the west side are on a mission. I am getting a feeling this is all the same people. I hope the police in both Cleveland and Lakewood have detectives working on this exclusively. There has to be some close circuit footage of all this they can access. Especially the Angelo's incident.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
My mom lives on a quiet and secluded cul-de-sac in Solon a few hundred yards from the very wealthy and well patrolled village of Bentlyville. Most people of course park their cars in their garages but 2-3 houses have 3-4 cars and park some in their drives. A couple of years ago same things. All cars parked in driveways were broken into one night.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
What is amazing is after all this time and alleged analysis, still no word where it is going to end up. Indeed there has been radio silence for a long time in connection with even where they are in the process of site selection. In the meantime. Tick Tick Tick. Costs just keep going up.

Is West 73rd the Horten Harper designed project? I thought that was officially dead even though it received final approval and the developer was trying to sell the property.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Checked again. At the November 14, 2024 Landmark's Commission meeting there was final approval of the demo but the developer had to come back to the Commission for final design approval once they addressed staff, community and Landmarks suggestions and concerns. As far as I can recall they have not been back before Landmarks since then.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I thought they approved the demolition as the developer stated the neighborhood was concerned about vandalism and potential crime but the final design still had to be approved.

I don't believe it has received final approval yet. I think it is Landmarks.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
To be fair, the charge was apparently spelled out on their website-although in fine print at the end of the menu section. I am notorious for just looking at the bottom line of a restaurant bill just to see what I have to tip without looking at the itemization. They could put a charge for caviar I did not order on my check and I would be none the wiser. However, one of my fellow diners and his girlfriend are notorious for inspecting the bill under a magnifying glass and discovered the 2% charge and wondered what it was all about. Another friend, who is not old and senile, said he noticed the charge on the website when he was looking at the menu before we dined, so at least we had an explanation. I tipped my usual amount-it certainly was not the servers fault. But I agree. It is sneaky. I personally tip less or not at all on takeout these days when I see the restaurant is adding a percentage charge for using a credit card. I view the credit card merchant fee as a cost of doing business for the restaurant and should not be passed on to the customer who often has no choice but to pay it. I owned a restaurant for a number of years and we were always negotiating the fee and absolutely hated it and tried to get the best rate, but again felt it was just a cost of doing business and would never think of passing it on, just like the fee I paid to the linen company.

Here's a new one-at least in my experience. Maybe it is common now. The restaurant I dined at this evening added a 2% charge to the bill describing it as a "temporary transaction fee" in lieu of pricing increases (or so they say...how do you know unless your a regular). It wasn't a charge for using a credit card to cover the restaurants merchant fee, which is more and more common these days, but just 2% taxed to each check. Curious to see if it will ever be removed.

^One of the nicest human beings you could ever wish to meet. In my few encounters with him he seemed very humble despite all of his accomplishments in life. He will be greatly missed.

I thought the Bond store at Ninth and Euclid was ugly as a kid, but now that I am more mature and sophisticated, I wish it could have been saved somehow. Cleveland does not have a lot of examples of commercial mid century modern architecture.

Oxford / Miami University: Development and News
I am the last person to opine about the status of things on campus as I have not been there since the early 90s. However, I have a vague recollection of reading something-I don't recall where-that there was a shortage of space for club sports after they tore down Withrow Court. That was a few years ago so maybe they remedied the situation.

They should keep Millett and turn it into a facility for club sports.

Personal Finance / Investing Thread
Here is an answer from another golden retriever. It has always been my understand that you pay quarterly if you have income sources that do not have automatic withholding. Like if you are a small business owner under an LLC and are taking regular distributions that are not considered salary. If you are just an employee of some firm or company they should be withholding the appropriate amount from you salary. My 91 year old mom pays quarterly but it is because she has a number of investment accounts with no withholding, although she has some where there is withholding and she has withholding from her monthly pension.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Yesterday I posed the question whether there is/was any stadium, nationwide, ever built or proposed, even one totally privately financed, which was opposed by both the city and county. Part two of that question, and even a more ridiculous scenario, any stadium built with "state money" where the city and county opposed it.

Yes it has been discussed for a couple of day in the Lakefront thread.

Less occupancy but generally business offices. I remember our firm use a court reporting firm that had offices up top.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Correct. And right now it is going nowhere, especially since they are asking for a ton of money from one of the most cash strapped states in the country. Similarly, the owners of the Rays have basically made enemies of both city and county officials, and now the status of their new stadium is in limbo.
