Cleveland: Random Development and News
Cross Country downtown headquarters. I imagine construction should actually be wrapped up soon...at least on portions of it.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
A few ago I was seated at the top of the upper deck (usually don't sit that high up) and I noticed they took out the last row of seats. I guess this was part of their seating reduction plan they implemented a number of years ago and figured it ran the length of the upper deck. I wonder if, now that they will be losing so many seats in the far left field upper deck as part of the renovation, they will return this last row of seating to make up for it.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
I was wondering. Can anybody think of a city outside of New York with so many theater marquees clustered so close together? Remember the Hanna is right across the street from the Euclid marquees. Maybe some district in LA, although they would probably be mostly movie marquees.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I really don't want this thread to go way off topic, but as I have suggested before this certain poster IS a borderline troll. He pops up every now and then in a variety of threads and his constant theme is downtown Cleveland is s**t. Nothing ever positive and never any interesting contributions regarding things like construction or any other aspect of life in Cleveland like other posters. I suggested in the past not to engage as he clearly has an agenda, but I know it is hard.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
As I am seeing it, the county just loses its voice and it will move forward. In fact I believe the individual lobbying for it at the meeting said as much. It would be nice to have the county's $250,000 a year, but it appears that it is not vital.

You are correct. We will be "okay" but it could have and should have been so much more...especially on the Jacobs lot. We know Pickard knows how to design engaging projects (see their work in Richmond we discussed a few pages back), we just did not get it on Public Square. In any event, all water under the bridge at this point.

So here is one of my Debbie Downer posts. May Day's second pic is a good example of how insignificant the "shack" is on this prime piece of Public Square real estate. I believe it has now reached its full height and you cannot even see it from across the square as it is blocked by some still relatively immature trees.

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
Isn't this a Horten and Harper design. I was always under the impression that vinyl siding is not a common feature of their work. Maybe the developer insisted for cost reasons.

See the chart that begins at 1:48 of the video. At the bottom of the chart there is a cited source. Detroit did not make the top ten. Also note this is just for the period 2020-2021.

Cleveland City Council
Well that is going to be fun. I know a couple of them I would not mind losing their seats because of redistricting-they will remain nameless.

Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
Somebody needs to do some pruning of those trees surrounding the cancer building. I know we complain about a lack of street trees and/or dead and dying trees due to lack of maintenance, poor placement or inappropriate varietal selection, but overgrown trees are just as bad, give a shabby appearance and eventually, lack of pruning adversely affects over all growth. That one tree on e105th looks like it is actually hitting the building.

Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
Are they still planning on demoing the parking garage behind it as part of the rehab. Or am I confusing this project with another developer/development?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
That would be a great article Ken. Although probably a lot of work.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower at Erieview & Galleria Renovation
And thereafter a TIF. These must be the public subsidies from the city that Ken mentioned in his most recent article.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Anecdote. My niece, her husband and their two toddlers just took the Dublin flight roundtrip as part of a week long family vacation in the south of France (other family member flew directly to Nice with US layovers in various cities). Since they were in Ireland they took advantage and spent a couple of days there on the arrival leg and another day when they were coming back to Cleveland. Of course, if they had not booked this flight, a short vacation in Dublin,, where the spent a fair amount of money, would not have been on their itinerary. I am sure this is a regular occurrence now and the Irish business interests have to be loving it.

Or maybe some of the principals need to put up more of their own money. This is getting ridiculous.

Very good questions. And from what I have read there is a more than a 50% chance that it is moving to North Carolina no matter what. I guess they will argue that the upgrades will help attract another tournament, although nothing as prestigious as the current tournament.

There will be a restaurant in Hotel Cleveland

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
This is a great project for Cleveland but I do not believe City Club II will happen any time soon given current economic realities. In fact, a long planned City Club project containing an Urban Target in Detroit just lost its financing after a bank it has long done business with walked away from the project citing current conditions. The company vows to continue on with the project and seek an alternative source of financing, but as we all know that is not an easy task. I imagine much of the companies' energy is going to be focused on the Detroit project (its home town) and as well as just hunting for new financing sources in general.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
I was actually curious and a bit bored last night and found the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on YouTube relating to the numerous variances requested for the new build. The owner of the yellow house did not show up to make any objections and the various Tremont groups were supportive of the project and design. Still think it looks strange, especially with how close it is to the yellow house and how it towers over it at the closes point possible. I have observed neighbors at Zoning hearings go nuts over way less intrusive designs. That said, the yellow house is no architectural masterpiece. Probably one of the blandest on the street. Plus, the chain linked fence in the front yard makes me crazy.

And their architect has done exactly that with other more enlightened corporate clients.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I don't think it will really add any "dynamic to the square" since it is basically a SHW fortress with no public engagement or amenities and, at least from the last renderings I saw, a whole host of benches that you can lean against but cannot sit on. I do agree that the skyscraper is better place on the next block as it addresses the Terminal Tower from that location much better.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Well, that does not surprise me. In fact, I believe I expressed shock a while back when I first heard that it was a thing.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
I wonder if the people living in the yellow house in the Auburn and West 11th pic are somewhat unhappy campers. Maybe it is just the camera angle but...boy or boy.
