  1. I cannot imagine they would have to tear down the whole building or even a significant portion of it. It is a very long building with multiple wings. The fire seems to have been contained in one section on cedar as far as I can tell from the pictures. And as far as rebuilding goes, this is why you have insurance. Flaherty and Collins are a large developer and know how the game is played.
  2. Flaherty and Collins. They also developed Top of the Hill. More than 200 units. There is a separate section not attached to section on fire which is almost done.
  3. My take is that posters usually don’t agree with him because he’s a borderline troll. I guess they don’t like feeding him.
  4. Noticed some small sign of life for a project that seems to never go anywhere. Apparently the Warner and Swasey renovation was before Euclid Corridor design review recently for schematic approval. As such, I imagine it will be before Planning Commission for schematic review in the near future, maybe at its first Feb. meeting. Looks like actually construction is no where near, but at least we might get some idea what the developer has planned.
  5. History shows that nothing on the lakefront comes quickly, and I don’t doubt that this will continue into the future. To your point, it would be great if all the parties were in lineand cooperating. My point was that the original Browns presentation was not something that was probably going to be the final product. It was very conceptual and early days and was supposed to just kickstart everything.
  6. But that plan was just the definition of conceptual. It was so early on with so many necessary studies still to be completed that it was just pretty pictures with no idea what it should contain, where it should go and why.
  7. It is interesting how quickly Dan Whalen has moved in Ohio City since he only recently left his old company. Makes me wonder if he was advocating for Phase 2 of Intro, was shot down by his superiors, and that is perhaps why, among other reasons, he decided to go on his own and aggressively seek projects in OC. I am also curious how he obviously believes he can finance these projects, given that his is a new and untested development company. We have seen more established developers having issues with financing time and time again, delaying projects for long periods of time (can you say Bridgeworks) I am sure he has lots of connections arising out of his former position but still. Of course he still has not actually gotten close to breaking ground on anything yet so maybe we might be reading about customary financing issues in the future. I for one wish him the best of luck. I have said it before...the city should be rolling out the red carpet to young developers like him and Justin Strezzi.
  8. Don't want to step on Ken's toes...but I am pretty sure the proposed amendment has to go through Council, probably starting in committee (probably the Development committee and then to Finance) and then the full council. It will probably be a slow process and vetted like crazy. If Griffin states he has a lot of questions then I can guarantee you that other council members will as well, including those who like to throw shade on anything the administration proposes.
  9. Planning Commission. Design Review is a whole different animal.
  10. This sounds like that behind closed doors bedrock is telling the administration that they would really like to start additional phasing sooner rather than later. This is probably additionally evidenced by the application for the TMUD.
  11. No. another project he is apparently proposing. An apartment building with over 100 units behind the Voss building on West 26th. It is going to design review next week so more should be revealed then. The zoning change being requested was tabled. PC wanted more info.
  12. Ohio City height police out in full force at PC today in connection with a possible Whalen project on West 26th.
  13. Just a reminder that the project has still not received final approval from the city so it still has a way to go before breaking ground. Hopefully some time this year.
  14. I wonder how much space Miami will need? I imagine, initially, it won’t be that much. Still, it would be fantastic if they needed enough space to kickstart the still iffy office portion of the circle square development.
  15. I like the larger bridge, but would also like to see it seamlessly Incorporated into the proposed transportation center below it. An entrance directly into the center from the bridge would be ideal.
  16. By the way, before everyone jumps all over my post, I know, Yost doesn’t speak for the rest of the state government.
  17. Hmm. Does that mean no money from the state? If that’s the case, no money from Cleveland, no money from Cuyahoga County and no money from Ohio. Go team. nothing like building a $2 billion development with only the city of Brook Park on your side.
  18. I agree with you but my gut says that there’s gonna be some pushback at planning commission just based on past history. Again, it’ll be interesting to see how they present the condition of the interiors to PC. My guess is that Flucker will be objecting the most. Hope I’m wrong.
  19. I am more curious how the demo of the three buildings will go over at PC. From the outside they don't look as though they are in particularly bad condition, but who knows what lurks inside.
  20. And with all the classic hand wringing in Cleveland, as far as I can tell from media reports nobody is jumping up and down with joy in Pittsburgh. Maybe evidence that they sort of view a certain CEO as a big nut job and not taking much of what he says seriously. By the way, his comments about Japan are going over nationwide like a lead balloon. Even right wingers like Mike Pompeo are pissed,
  21. Why wasn't he saying this months ago when they when first bidding for the company. Why is so important all of sudden. Maybe in his mind it is to curry favor with Shapiro. The guy seems to just say things for the sake of saying them. Reminds me another old white guy.
  22. All this speculative hand wringing is just a bit much. Dare I say it reflects the old Cleveland inferiority complex shining through, something I thought was finally wanning. What isn't speculative is that US Steel still wants the Nippon deal and is suing to get it done which will take a long time to resolve. Indeed the Biden administration has extended the deadline to June for Nippon to abandon the deal which many see as an opportunity, rather than abandoning the deal, to get it done even with professed opposition by Trump, the king of flip flops.
  23. Hey @KJP A couple of months ago you hinted at a Dimit project being proposed for UC that WAS NOT One University Cirlce Phase 2. Any progress to report on this-or actually any beans to spill since you did not actually say offer what or where? It has been a slow beginning of the year project wise.
  24. I am another big advocate of this. Would like to see the day where you could walk from East ninth at the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame to the flats Eastbank comfortably and then up the river at least to Canal basin Park. All safely and seamlessly.
  25. Let Haslam pay the remaining sum needed, plus a nice $50 bonus, and let him move to Brookpark.
