  1. Yes. Those two houses come down. Too bad the two to the north on Cornell will still stand since they are butchered much worse and I am sure the owners have no interest in renovating and making them "historically accurate". The house on the right in this picture is actually no so bad. Wonder if they interior is intact or all chopped up? Again, three buildings on Murray Hill Road are to get renovated as part of the development, although this aspect of the project does not appear to get much play and I hope it has not been nixed.
  2. Does it also still have to go through Design Review? I cannot recall that happening yet or is Landmark a substitution for that step?
  3. It is Miami University. The University of Miami is in Florida.
  4. My impression is that the "old guard's" response is to plaster storefronts with mindless propaganda and whine to their councilman and in forums like Board of Zoning Appeals due to the nice new competition rather than make any effort to significantly renovate their old and, less face it, butchered properties. We will see if this lights a fire under them but I doubt it. Also, in going through this thread, I am reminded that UCI bought the old Woodhill Supply property last year with the intent to develop this huge plot with single family house. They are going slow with this endeavor but once the ball is rolled it will put added pressure on the old guard and with a new type of product.
  5. The best thing about this development is the proposed renovation of three buildings on Murray Hill Road in conjunction with the construction of the apartment building. I truly hope this is done contemporaneously with the apartments rather than a Phase 2. Even worse, I hope the renovations are not nixed altogether due to cost. For some reason this element of the development does not seem to be touted as much.
  6. So do we see the NIMBYs appealing to Common Pleas Court in connection with this project? Lawyers are not cheap. It is put up or shut time for them.
  7. ^I imagine they are way past due diligence and the current delays relate to negotiations due to the R and D drama and those pesky lawyers justifying their existence and dotting i(s) and crossing t(s).
  8. ^Now the hard part...spending it wisely.
  9. Good to see. For some reason I thought the project had been abandoned after the wall collapse.
  10. The restaurant concept would be a nice space. Too bad that in this day and age it will then be populated by poorly dressed 2O somethings in plaid flannel shirts and baseball caps. Oh my was that an old person's rant? Yes it was.?
  11. It is interesting how much information we have been getting lately from forum members over hearing conversations in downtown office building elevators. Maybe we should have a sign up sheet for scheduled times each member of the forum has to ride an elevator up and down in an assigned building.
  12. Agree 100%. Centrum doesn't do much for me either, especially given the original concept.
  13. Is this building suppose to mimic the other buildings in the uptown development? I cannot recall. If yes. then the windows are similar to those in the other buildings, as you can see across the street.
  14. I wasn't crazy about the original concept. Did not like the proposed plaza on Euclid and I think the apartment tower should be oriented towards Euclid and away from the back of the property where it would over shadow the traditional style CWRU residence halls. Finch seems to move incredibly slow. Maybe they shouldn't announce flashy concepts when they don't intend to build for a while. Still waiting for that small condo building they proposed on the Nord Family Greenway quite some time ago (at least I think it was Finch).
  15. Agree with much of you post. However, Wilson Hall didn't pre date Miami (if it did it would have been built in the early 1820 and it was not). It just was not an original Miami building as you stated but a sanitarium. It was called The Pines when I attended and was a women's residence hall. I lived next door in Dennison freshman year and dated a couple of girls living there. It had a lot of charm. I was sad to hear they were tearing it down. In addition to Swing and Withrow, since I attended Reid Hall was demoed for the new business school and Talawanda on the corner of Talawanda and High is gone (originally an apartment building where Woody Hayes once lived and then a women's residence hall with Tuffys in the basement. I am hoping the new STEM building goes where Swing use to be. Makes sense and I wish they would finally develop that parking lot where Talawanda was. The big demo controversy when I was on campus was tearing down the "haunted" Fisher Hall (now the site of the conference center). Students were allowed one last peek (rather than breaking in like often happen) and I have a picture of students in a huge line waiting to get in. Worried about Ox College. Hope it is still in good shape.
  16. Isn't the suggestion for a "possible" campus for the jail complex and not the courthouse?
  17. As a new Urban Ohio forum member in the mid 2000s I was weaned on this thread. It was like the SHW thread today. Pages of discussion regarding shady property owners, eminent domain, court cases, city subsidies, infrastructure issues, connectivity, design critiques, alternative developments, effect of the recession and stories about the old flats, among other topics. At times it was very frustrating but the vision was exciting. After more than 15 years I find it frustrating that the development is still not near completed and I have to admit, it is not the neighborhood I thought it was going to be when the project was first announced. It is not awful but it is not the proposed vision and I don;t know if it ever can/will be. One of my biggest frustrations has nothing to do with Wolstein. That is, for some reason it has not resulted in any significant companion development up the hill and down River Road.
  18. As I understand it Gap is in the process of closing a significant number of stores nationwide.
  19. Which partner?
  20. Terminal Tower apartments are all on lower floors. I think the 14th floor is the highest.
  21. Being a Clevelander I have only been to Summit Mall 3-4 times in my life. A couple of months ago I had to go there to pick something up for my sister who lives in Hudson. It was late afternoon on a Saturday with a ton of very important college games on. I was shocked how crowded it was. I had to park at the edge of the parking lot and I cannot tell you the last time I had to do that at any shopping center. Also was surprised by the retail mix. It clearly is doing well and I sure it benefits from being in the center of some pretty good demographics.
  22. And now after reading the whole article I am very intrigued. What were Stark's "radical constraints" other than the amenity floor. Silly Stark boys. Of course this could just be Litt stirring up trouble and trying to make his article more interesting. That portion of the piece would have more credibility if he pressed the architect and spelled out specifically what he wanted included and the developer nixed. And of course, if all this is true I am sure it resulted from the age old battle between architect and developer where one is trying to make money or cut costs and the other wants to see a certain vision fulfilled no matter what the cost.
  23. LOL. I see Steve started his review with one of his pet phrases. I think he has 4 or 5 standard lines programmed into his computer and all he needs to do is press a button to save time.
  24. If I recall correctly, a couple of months ago some forum posters in the know indicated that the preliminary engineering (and drafting of plans and specifications to bid contracts) was just beginning and this process would take about 18 months. This preliminary engineering is for the stabilization portion of the project and not the park itself which would be a subsequent phase. I imagine that as part of this drafting of the plans and specs a fair amount of site work will be necessary including soil boring, surveying and perhaps out right excavation. So it may very well seem like work is being done (with a need to fence parts of the hillside) but the actual stabilization work probably will not start for a couple of years. I also believe a good chuck of funding is still needed. The actual park is way down the road but should be great for the city.
