Say Hello to 1835 Cleveland!
Can someone suggest some good books discussing all the different ethnic groups that lived in Cleveland and/or Akron. The library hasn't been too helpful as of yet. I'm looking to learn more about why all the different groups came here, where they lived, what they did. For example, I'm interested in the Irish, and all I've found out so far is "they liked to be cops and firefighters." Thanks!

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I thought Wolstein's looking into buying a stake in Crocker Park and Bob Stark's unhappy reaction pretty interesting, I wonder if it has any implications downtown since the two of them are competing for the same stuff.

Cleveland: Cleveland Institute of Art Expansion
Would it kill those Web people at the PD to give us high-res photos for once? I hate trying to make a decision on whether or not I like something when the people for scale are the size of the pinhead. I hope that MOCA comes up with something flamboyant. My first thought is this design is too reflective of Cleveland's conservative personality. This area of the city -- the region, really -- needs to shock people into a new view of the city.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I hate to panic, but I am not looking forward to this season. They are getting blown out in these exhibition games, and Ferry did absolutely nothing to solve the problems they had LAST season! This is not good because the NBA is the only league I follow religiously and understand what's going on!

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Well, I guess it's nice to see they appreciate all those sickly bodies coming through the door. Better make sure they get a few more bucks off 'em. And don't forget, they need that office in Avon Lake, damn it.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
^ I think if they cleaned it and dressed it up, it'd be neat. That lobby, although jacked up now, is sort of sexy in a 1960s sort of way. You could make it chic.

That's as anecdotal as our complaints. I maintain it is not easy to meet people around here but I'm not going to go through the litany of why -- we've done that a million times.

Maybe he heard us griping? I'm going to live delusionally and say we are a secret public policy/developmental power :)

I'm pissed off that they pissed millions of dollars into the wind.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I hate to be a complainer, but Jerry can you suggest to someone in charge of the bus drivers that they should not proceed into intersections with stopped traffic or just floor it at red lights. This is not safe, and when they get stuck in intersections, everything gets jacked up.

This is an embarrassment. What can we do?

Which makes me ill. How do people get these jobs? Do people really sit around a table and pass money back and forth and say: "You're right! The reason people don't come here is that we call ourselves the Convention and Visitors Bureau. But, if we called ourselves Positively Cleveland! why, they'd flock here!" Man, the audacity of that @sshole! How do THEY get jobs?! How the F does he keep his job?! His entire job is complaining about stuff!

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Feagler said: "Will this happen in my lifetime?" Stark said. "YES... God willing." So, take that for what you will. The rest of the conversation was about his basic urban philosophies and the boring Solon project. Stark really seems to have changed his talking points to focus on "luring" world-class workers to Cleveland, which I bet has everything to do with the office tenants he's trying to get. His message right now is, Cleveland can't compete against other U.S. or world cities for excellent workers. To his credit, Feagler seemed to be more hopeful for downtown. I think that guy loves the city but has been soured by life experience. Later in their round table, they had some local journalists talking about it, but they didn't have much additional information. One guy from Crain's said the high-end stores in Tower City flopped because of crappy sales, not hoodlums. He said that was something Stark would need to consider with his project.

What's your style? / How do you dress?
Anderson Cooper dresses classically masculine! edit: But I also copy off George Clooney and the new James Bond, whatever that guy's name is. That negates that I'm more interested in cooking and art than football.

What's your style? / How do you dress?
I don't really know what my style is, honestly. I mix it up with all sorts of different brands that I can afford. I'm thin, so I like slimmer looks but not super skinny. I basically steal my style from magazines, TV wardrobes, etc. Plus I get my sister, the fashion student, to help me, hehe. At work, I wear a suit (whenever I get more income, I want to buy more. I am obsessed with suits. I have been since I was little) or shirts with ties, v-neck sweaters with collared shirts and maybe a tie (depending on my mood), blazers. I like the classic corporate look, but I add a bit of edge with details like the color of the tie, sock patterns, slightly askew hair. I'll admit it - Anderson Cooper is my work style mentor, but I also do younger styles, cuts. I have a subdued personality, so outlandish styles don't work for me. I like to stick out by being subtle. The one advantage of being a straight guy in Cleveland is, you don't have to do much to standout from the jersey and sweats crowd. Outside of work, my style might be slightly indie but on the "grown-up" side. When I was in college, I was all over the thrift stores getting T-shirts and tight blazers, dyed my hair black, wore cowboy shirts and rolled jeans with Converse... I'm over all that now :)

Babies, six packs, balding men. This is all too terrifying. I'm tired, but I wonder if there's still time to hit W. 6th......

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Bob Stark was on Feagler's World tonight. He didn't say anything new and Feagler waxed poetic about the good old days. What a bore. I'm seriously thinking of pitching a show to WCPN that brings in some new blood to these shows. I fear they'll blow me off because I do PR for a job, though.

The Dating Thread
OK, I haven't attended an UrbanOhio meet-up yet. Lo siento!!! In terms of being picky, I am picky, but I'M WAY, WAY better than I was in college. Looks are obviously the first impression, but that's equally as important as good style, personality, sense of humor, values, mannerisms, etc. The issue is finding "normal" girls because I'm swinging for the fences with girls with issues. I have sometimes wondered what I'd do if I met a girl and she'd was dead-set on living in Strongsville or Solon.

Ohio Cities' Downtown Population
I thought I read in the paper this week Cleveland is still pegged at 10,000 for downtown.
