  1. If everyday experiences had the energy of a playoff game at the Q or Jacob's Field, this would be the most magical place on Earth. I just like jumping around drunkenly.
  2. BOOO. I do not approve of this project! Solon still has an empty Cooker near the Old Navy. They don't need Louis Vuitton!!!!

I've been to 20/30 events. Not my cup of tea. Groups like that appeal to a very specific type of person. Nothing against it.
  4. Man, that shit is really frustrating. WTF would he say that for?
  5. ^ Couldn't they add a third car if there was no room?
  6. Thanks for the tip FH2H! I did a search with this in mind, and found this blurb from July in the PD: Pull up a bowl . . You may soon hear the snap, crackle and pop of a cereal buffet in Lakewood. Jeff Coyle and his partners in Cereal Central opened a cereal restaurant near the Ohio State University campus in Columbus last year with ambitious plans for about 100 nationally within five years. But the ride's been a tad bumpy. First, they had to change the name from Cerealitious when the concept's originator, Cereality Bar & Cafe, threatened to sue. Next, expansion has been slower than expected. But a second location may finally open at a spot near Detroit Avenue and Warren Road, hopefully in September. If it does, expect a novelty offering about 40 cereals with 35 toppings, oatmeals, smoothies and frozen bananas. Unlike the Columbus spot, this one will be mainly takeout. Coyle said he's teaming with Smoothie Creations of Parma for the Lakewood venture.
  7. I swear I saw in one of the store fronts on Detroit near the Chipotle in Lakewood that said something about a cereal restaurant. There's something like that in Chicago, I saw on TV. Could we be getting a cereal dinner, too, or am I crazy, :)
  8. That's pretty neat!

I suppose you might think this, but considering the circumstances, this was not the case. I have a pretty good idea what was going on, but it really doesn't really matter because either way it still makes my point that it's hard to meet people. I'm sure it's hard for girls to meet guys, too. We live in a region with a limited sense of social interaction. I'll give you an asexual situation -- I was at an event, and these three guys had name tags, and I walked up to them and said something like "Wow, where did you guys get those name tags?" They motioned to the door. "Oh, I thought you guys might have some sort of special powers." They turned away from me! I was just being friendly, but they had their little group set. I'll give you another example. Join a club or a team or any social activity that is already in process. Unless there is someone incredibly friendly involved, no one is going to go out of their way to introduce you, the newbie, to the larger group. So, you have to go to each person and say "Hey, I'm so and so, and I'm new here..." I would say this is the case 50% of the time at least. I'm not saying this is the worst thing ever, but when you're the new person, it definitely helps when someone helps introduce you to everyone. I agree with David and KJP. You do need to "be on" at all times. The selection around here is slim, so you need to be able to kick up your game to another level at the most random of times -- in the bookstore, the grocery store, the street, etc. -- I know this sounds cheesy, but it's just how it is. Creating a broad social circle is also important by volunteering and getting involved in different activities. You might do all of these things, and it's still a pain in the ass, and I'll agree.
  10. "....making the controversial decision to ban unaccompanied youths under 18 from the mall during the week and after 2:30 p.m." To whom is this controversial? When I was a school kid, the corner stores in my suburb on the way home from school all said only two kids could come in at one time. I even got kicked out of one once, and I wasn't even stealing they just thought I was. I hate to sound old here, but a lot of these kids, no matter where they live, are brats. In extremely affluent suburbs, you go into the library and the middle schoolers are running around like monkeys in a cage at the zoo, disturbing everyone and swearing. For some reason, the management doesn't tell them to shut their spoiled @sses up! Anyway, I found this article pretty unenlightening.

On this topic, you won't get much disagreement from me. The last girl I went out with several weeks ago actually told her ex-boyfriend where we were going and he stopped by to have a drink with us. Um, ok? I'll even qualify your criteria so people don't blow it off as vain -- "quality" single girls are incredibly hard to find and by that I mean desirable human beings, not just physically, but also intellectually and all the other stuff you can't see but is important. I don't have an answer, unfortunately. If I leave for a "bigger" city, this will be one of the two reasons why.

edit: Oh nevermind, I can't stay on topic.

    What'd the article say?

Yeah, that USAirways article was VERY nice. On a blog, someone said it was an advertorial, but it didn't look like advertorial to me. Normally advertorials don't get play like that on a publication's Web site, even an airline magazines. I don't think at least.

If I were an awesome soccer player, my entire goal would be to get over to Europe. That's where it's at - the money, the attention, the fans, etc.

DAMN IT! We need Sasha, Andy and Boykins. Give the boot to the random schmucks they brought in!
  17. It would be cool to have our cake and eat it too, but am I the only one who thinks that the original design is heinous? It looks like a Star Destroyer and the Ren Cen in Detroit collided. If it's going to be the tallest building down there, make it pretty!

Now that I think of it, how come SYC doesn't look like the renderings in the off-topic picture?
  19. Everyone is ranting and raving over the "Cleveland" connection, but I'm more frightened by the fact that this stuff happens everywhere. Sad to say, students aren't safe no matter where they go. There is something terribly wrong going on in our society when every year students kill their classmates and teachers, from affluent colleges and suburbs to inner-city schools. Unfortunately, there are always people to blame, so it's easy to ignore the bigger issues.
  20. They don't even have the Gap right now. If they could lure those types of stores back, I'll be there on my lunch break. It's easier to walk a few blocks than to drive to Westlake.
  21. Scene is too snarky for a smart-ass like me. It just gives me a headache.
  22. ^^ hahaha, it's like two pick-pockets fighting over who stole from who first.
  23. Arenn, I personally don't disagree with you to a point. The only reason this project is getting opposed is because it's not in Cuyahoga County. If they wanted to do this in Westlake, they'd have shovels in the ground. The government officials in this case are raising the flag of sprawl so they don't lose money to another county. That's disingenuous and obnoxious. However, where we differ is on the point of "need." Are you saying that development such as that in Avon is "needed"? Let's set aside the city of Cleveland for a moment. Pretend it doesn't exist. What's wrong with Lakewood, Rocky River and Bay Village. Why are these communities and their strip malls and for sale houses not enough that we need to push outward and create entire new neighborhoods and infrastructure when perfectly sufficient infrastructure exists in the suburbs that we already have. I don't think anyone thinks we're going to be able to convince the 3 million people of Northeast Ohio to move back into Cleveland and Akron. But the farther out we go, the weaker we make ourselves. KJP pointed this out far better than I did.

^ That's interesting. Has soccer made a lot of headway with urban youth? I associate it with suburbs because it's the only place with the fields. In Lakewood, for example, the only park with soccer nets that I'm aware of is Madison. Meanwhile, Rocky River High has four public nets. North Ridgeville has a giant ass park with youth and adult goals. It's nuts. On the flip side, all you need to play is a location and a ball.
  25. The sad thing about this to me is the discussion is only about the new highway exits in Avon when we should be discussing a bigger question about how we live. The exits in Avon are the least of our worries. Our public officials are willing knock down houses in Cleveland to create a CHRISTMAS TREE FARM while new housing goes up on the fringes -- despite the fact that the houses near the core are far more efficient than housing on the fringes. This is like routing the veins from your heart to your feet up around your ear! We as "United States Americans" seem to always want to avoid underlying issues for instant gratification. Unfortunately, I think it's probably like this in every city. When I was in Dallas, I was appalled by the sprawl.
