  2. Imagine being in the neighborhoods no one talks about.
  3. I didn't see any drunk people in those pictures! Oh, my friends I myself have been to quite a few all-you-can-eat establishments in my quarter century. When I was younger, I LOVED them! Country Buffet, Ponderosa, Easter brunch...As I got older, however, I grew to resent the fact that I was gnawing on meatless chicken bones like a dog and paying $10 for unlimited plates of macaroni and cheese. My tastes have matured. I now prefer "All-American" restaurants like Applebee's. It's delicious. OK, that part is a bit sarcastic, but I'll admit that when I go out with people, I secretly hope we go some place where I can get some sort of chicken wrap. If we're going to get some fancy food with ingredients I've never heard of, I'd like advance warning so I can research during the afternoon. For example, if people are going to Sushi Rock, I order soup and then demand someone drive me to Taco Bell.

^ hahaha The worst when some motorcyclist started trash talking with me on a country road. He even flicked me off! Around here, I get yelled at least once every time I take to the roads in the Rocky River Reservation....a METRO PARK!!! "Get off the road!!" "OK, would you prefer I get on the bike paths and running over every granny, jogger and little kid on their first BMX bike? Sounds like a plan."

^^ Cities with large immigrant populations? If NEO were to get an MLS team, I still think they should play in Browns Stadium or the yet-to-be-built Akron Zips football stadium in downtown Akron. And then they could name them the Akron Villa. Like Aston Villa. Har Har Har. I don't know, I think soccer would have a very hard time getting "huge" here just for the simple fact that the players are not considered as good as those playing in Europe. America is used to seeing the "highest level of play" in its sports.

    ^^ F the system! I'm taking the lane -- I wear a helmet!!

Do you mean having the bikes riding in the parking lane? Personally, I only like bike lanes on busy roads where cars can get major speed. On city streets in dense neighborhoods, most of the time I'll just take the lane so I don't have to worry about someone not seeing me and smacking into me or someone opening a door on me. Of course, I have to admit I despise urban biking, and it's really trashed my cycling. I used to live in the country and could go 40 miles without seeing a stop light. That was awesome.
  9. "He added that "a top-notch major department store chain appears to be interested in our site." He declined to name it. " Well, that sounds like it's practically in the bag!!
  10. So, why did they get rid of these??

I never considered Solon particularly "bike-friendly." But what do I know... I just ride bikes. Solon seeks 'Bicycle-Friendly' title Posted by Ray Jablonski July 12, 2007 15:59PM Categories: Breaking News The City of Solon has filed an application with The League of American Bicyclists, based in Washington, D.C., to be recognized as a "Bicycle-Friendly Community." "If we earn the designation, Solon would become the first city in Ohio to receive the national recognition," Mayor Kevin Patton said. He said the Bicycle-Friendly Community designation is an extension of the "Healthy Solon" program. The mayor said the city hopes to have a decision regarding its application soon.

I love Andy! I've been watching a lot of the soccer lately, and I can see where I he learned to flop around so easy.
  13. been to LA, Atlanta, DC , MIA, etc.... Jamie you know I love you to pieces, but I have to call you on the first portion of that statement. Yeah, yeah, I guess I exposed the bubble I live in :)
  14. It makes me sad to see schools getting wrecked. Obviously this one was a problem, but look at that thing, it's built like a tank. I was in Akron a couple months ago and I drove by the Fairlawn Elementary School, which was a beautiful old school in an affluent part of town. They had apparently knocked it down and replaced it with some modern atrocity. I was sick!!

Yeah he did, in the middle of the season he went there, played a game and then flew back to Cleveland to play in another game the very next night for the Cavs. I remember distinctly because Austin Carr and Mike Brown commented on how hard-ass/old-school that was.

Shannon Brown got sent to d-league and he's ripping it up this summer!! I still think it'd be a good move. You just co-brand the d-league team like the Cavs, put them in Columbus. That's the thing that bothered me about the hockey farm teams in Cleveland -- their players never went to a place like Pittsburgh... It was always some far-off team. The Blue Jacket's farm team could be in Cleveland, too.
  17. It's a new Robert Smithson piece.....Art joke!!
  18. jamiec replied to a post in a topic in City Discussion
I love the arts as much as the next guy (I minored in art history!!) but I'm slightly frustrated by many arts folks' supposition that it's the public's fault they have never have any money. When I used to be a newspaper reporter, I interviewed artists all the time and they always said they wished the community supported them more. While I understood their frustration, I always wondered what the average person would do with a four-foot tall anti-war message painted on an old cubicle wall that was priced at $2,000. And to ColDayMan's point, glitzy arts organizations are great, but lets not forget that many of the greatest arts institutions and artists started much smaller than they are today. With the right brew of artists and entrepreneurs, the Short North could be the Greenwich Village of the future. Why not? The MoMA in NYC wasn't born and then competitive with the Louvre within five years. Personally, while New York is obviously the cultural leader in the United States, I think the field is wide open for an upstart. Why not Columbus...or Cleveland or Cincy for that matter. The key is attracting the talent to make this happen. How can you do this? I don't know.
  19. Looks like an awesome place to ride your bike!!

In case anyone cares, I found a soccer team and promptly injured myself. LOL. I'm hopeful I'll be able to start running again this week, haha. I'm only 25 going on 26, but I never got the memo you can't just start playing new sports on whim like when you're younger.
  22. Man, it's turning into Mad Max up in this joint! I ride my bike by this McDonald's a lot.... Man shot at Lakewood McDonald's restaurant The Plain Dealer Posted by Brian Albrecht July 07, 2007 13:57PM Categories: Breaking News, Crime Lakewood -- A worker at the McDonald's on Sloane Avenue in Lakewood was shot in the head and killed Saturday morning by a man who fled the restaurant and later surrendered after a brief standoff, according to police. Capt. Ed Hassing said Robert Joslin, 26, of Lakewood, was slain in an apparent dispute by Nathaniel Williams Jr., 22, of Cleveland, who has a record for domestic violence. The two knew each other, police said. ... www.cleveland.com
  23. The way I see it, we can't get rid of thugs. Their nature is too ingrained and supported by their peers. Our entire culture glorifies this stuff. I don't think this is anything new, really -- in Little Italy they have mafia shirts that say "Neighborhood Watch" with a bunch of thugs picture below -- what they don't say is, if you don't do what you're told or pay what they say they're owed, those friendly neighbors are going to come over and slam your head on a table... Or at least they used to... The only way to keep everyone else safe is to make it too hard for these kinds of people, no matter who they are or where they come from, to exist in lawful society. In the neighborhoods, this is obviously very hard because of all the issues we've discussed or read about: Fear of thug backlash, distrust of police, etc. However, when these guys step foot into the WHD, they should be at a severe disadvantage because that's not where they live. Although the WHD has a big resident population on party nights, I bet they are far outnumbered by visitors, which means those streets should be the POLICE'S streets. I'm no security expert, but it seems like clubs should be using those hand-held metal detectors they wave over you when you go to a big concert so if you have a weapon, you can't get into the club at all. But, of course, there's also that percentage of unpredictability that you can't control. It'd probably help if they didn't let kids get into bars.

Here's my idea for expanding the Cavs fanbase. Apparently they have a d-league team in....the desert somewhere. Hello, buy a d-league team and put it in Columbus. This seems like a no-brainer. That way, you can send people down and pull people up easy and you grow the overall Cavs brand in the its growing big city. Got the idea from this story http://www.nba.com/dleague/affiliates_070705.html
  25. ^^ WTF! Why?!!
