Cleveland Cavs Discussion
E. Snow is a fantastic defender, though! I wonder why he's so bad at offense, though.

Cleveland: Need help moving!
My apartment in Lakewood was incredibly warm last winter - too warm, at times! Most of the people I know in apartments live in the Edgewater, Lakewood-Clifton, West Lakewood areas, and I haven't heard anything about being cold from them, either. It might be best to stop people you see going into buildings you have interest in to get their individual takes.

Relocation to Cleveland
Coventry may be less interesting as an edgy area, but it's not "failing." I don't really go over there to hang out anymore, but if I lived in Cleveland Heights, I wouldn't come over to my neighborhood in Lakewood. Actually, I think there may be more babes over there, so maybe I'll move next May.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
If a judge can't see the difference between the public use of a residential neighborhood with regional attractions and a strip club, we've got some real problems.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Show me the money...er the evidence! I like Bob Stark's ideas and daring goals, but I'm not going to call for a ticker-tape parade down Euclid until something happens.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I bet all those docs would be very impressed with the dollar store. In all seriousness, I think TC can be viable if/when the other projects are up and running and/or the convention center/med mart moves to behind TC. Right now, all TC has to depend on are downtown employees and the people that come down for games etc. No one comes to TC from the burbs just to shop anymore. A large increase in downtown residents + convention center would fix this very quickly. Off topic, but I wonder why everyone who mentions Tower City has to mention that one dollar store and never the better stores like Brooks Brothers or Jonston & Murphy, Charlotte Rouse, or even Morton's Steakhouse. That's an easy answer. Because its pathetic that a mall that once was home to Structure, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, Disney, Warner Bros., etc. etc. etc has to fill its vacancies with dollar stores. This isn't all the fault of TC obviously, since they can't force people to choose to shop there instead of a suburban mall w/ the same stores. At the same time, its extremely dissappointing to see what has happened. Brooks Brothers is solid, and I believe recently signed a new lease, but they need a lot more to be viable. It's interesting to note that none of those brands is considered exclusive anymore. In fact, does Structure even exist or has it gone to the world of private-label discount land? It's difficult for a mall like Tower City to prosper when it has the same stores as all the other malls and no community in which to draw upon. The thing I fear with the East Bank and Pesht is they are going to drop a retail neutron bomb on the area. Combined, they are talking $2 billion worth of development downtown. Obviously, I like this, but I also worry about the idea of saturation. Fundamentally, there is nothing wrong with Tower City. As far a malls go, it's extremely nice. Maybe it could be adapted for another user.

I disagree. We've waited this long with empty storefronts. I'm willing to wait a little longer for people to do it right.

Cleveland: Retail News
I'm concerned by this oversupply of retail we have in NEO. Most of it is the same stores. We already have enough vacant buildings. If we don't start growing, we're going to create ghetto sprawl all over the place, and then we'll be done for. That's unprecedented.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
^^ Yep, that's the one I was talking about. It's hard to get a feel for what the buildings would like from any of those microscopic renderings.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I'm oscillating back and forth on this tower. On one hand, I think the commissioners are being arrogant, unfriendly philistines. At the same time, this building does have some serious shortcomings to consider, including how much of a pain in the ass it would be to renovate. Is it TRULY worth it or would we be better off spending our time worrying about other buildings? I have to admit, I'm more annoyed by the fact that they are going to potentially knock down the building on E.55th to put in a mountain biking park, but that's just me. My big fear with this building is they are going to replace the entire corner with something that'll make my stomach sick. Already they want to knock down the tower and the building on Euclid immediately east of the Rotunda. Is the building next to that next? It seems to me the owner of that little gem is waiting for someone to take it off his hands. There is netting all over the beautiful cornice and now they have a wood barrier under the first-floor windows so the cornice doesn't break off and fall on people. That's pathetic. Considering this is a public building being commissioned by public officials, this should be a more collaborative process. These guys aren't czars. It's our money and our city. We should work together.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Where are the two McDonalds downtown? edit: Yech, I don't want fast-food storefronts. No matter what city you go to, they are the nastiest looking spots on the street. The McDonalds in NYC are heinous -- an affront to fine design and gourmands! Places like were born and made for the suburbs.

I've been into the creating glass around this building from the time I saw that proposal to the commishes.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
If we get hoodwinked by this project, we can flog Stark and LeBron in Public Square (if they lose again tonight!).

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Bare with me because this might be crazy -- but what if there was a compromise?! That words never even be used in this debate.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
That's not true at all. There are real estate companies, advertising agencies, architects, magazine publishers, talent management companies (IMG), modeling agencies. Just because you only see a bunch of suits at networking events doesn't mean there aren't other types of people downtown. What else? A paint manufacturer; the heaquarters of professional sports teams; major philantropic organizations; the heaquarters of the CMA until their building is done; shipping companies; union headquarters; the RTA main office; the Diocese of Cleveland... This list could go on and on. Frankly, if I had to work in the suburbs, I'd move somewhere else.

I was at Southside in Tremont and Scott Pollard came in with his wife at 11:30 (YEAH, IM BACK ALREADY. WHAT'S IT TO YOU?!). He seemed interested in avoiding contact. Lucky for him, everyone was just happy the game was over and they were wasted.

How much does a new sign cost? I mean, realistically, when will this project be complete? 2017?

Brunswick: Another booming Northeast Ohio ex-urb
This is happening all over the country, too. It freaks me out.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Well, that sucks. Does that put the jobs in Columbus in jeopardy? They aren't ultra high-end brands, but I think it's really cool that we have major trendsetting companies like this in Ohio. edit: NM the story says *more* jobs could come to cbus

Brunswick: Another booming Northeast Ohio ex-urb
^Interesting point. I'm not a property owner, so I don't deal with these things. But areas like Brunswick are going to have to find money somewhere for all the infrastructure that's being created, right? There's just so much duplication, and it don't make no sense to me!!!

Brunswick: Another booming Northeast Ohio ex-urb
^ I agree. The whole damn county is full of nice towns -- old and new. I don't understand why rural areas like Lorain and Medina are growing when Cuyahoga County suburbs are still very nice. What's wrong with Gates Mills, Rocky River, Westlake, etc.?
