Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
LeBron just purchased a minority interest in the bike manufacturer Cannondale: http://blog.cleveland.com/earlyedition/2007/03/lebron_takes_it_to_the_rack_th.html He might be a good person to advocate bike transportation! Maybe he'd kick in a few bucks for the downtown bike station that was discussed last summer!

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
Hah! When I lived in NYC, there were three girls living across the street who used to do this. They didn't charge money, though... In terms of this building... Maybe they could sell all the condos and then if they have leftovers with undesirable views, rent those out?

Your Daily Commute
I was a little surprised but not a lot. In NYC, for example, you can do all of your work in the city, probably in in the same 10 X 10 block area -- for example, the financial institutions are clumped way downtown, fashion midtown, etc. In Ohio, though, you can create an alignment in your personal life where you live within walking distance to everything you need.... However, you can't control what other people are doing. For example, (sorry for the irony in this) I was looking for a local car dealer in which to take my car for inspection. In order to get to and from the dealer, I'd need to take public transportation. Because of where the dealers are located, I'd face between an hour and three hours commuting time via bus --- that is if the bus even went near the place. Now, this counts for other things. For example, my company works with a company in Avon and we have to go there semi-frequently (once a month at least). It's completely out of reach of public transit. So what are you supposed to do? We're going against the stream in everything we do.

Former transit systems in Ohio
MAN! This is just Ohio. I can't even fathom how much infrastructure was destroyed around the country. Really, if we were to recreate what was lost, I wonder what that monetary value would be. Talk about a regressive....

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Yeah, I don't know what we can do until we find out who these people are. And then you'd have to delicately insist they work with the groups in Cleveland to do this work properly. Perhaps someone living in the neighborhood would have more impact...

Your Daily Commute
I'm in a difficult position. I can easily take the bus to work, and I'd much prefer it, but sometimes I need to unpredictably take my car and go on an errand during the middle of the day. It's not often, but I'm afraid that if I'm strapped to public transit, I'm going to take a hit job-wise, i.e., "failing" when given car-dependent assignments.

Wow! LOVE MTS and Kendall's places. OTR looks like such a neat neighborhood.

How Europeans view US cities
Good discussion! I can't disagree with a lot of those points. Our country is just not very urban. When you think about it, only a handful of cities have a intraurban rail system that truly allows you to go car-free. It's slightly frustrating, especially in a state like Ohio, to try to explain why living in urban neighborhoods is a good thing. At the same time, the differences are because of history. Unfortunately, the car made life easier and harder.

Where do you live?
Yeah, I love the interior space, which is why I've been very hesitant to move out. I enjoy this neighborhood in Lakewood. The density is unlike any place I've seen in the area. Out my window, I get to see squirrels and birds and at night, the giant condo towers are lit up, which is quite pretty. It's really very nice, especially in the summer.

Where do you live?
Oh, that's cute! Sorry for the lack of a better adjective. Sometimes it just works :) I live in a bachelor pad. It could use a few more girls, though ;) Out the window! Merry Christmas! Outside

"City Living" in Cleveland...
^^ OH my GOSH! I'm 25...I'll worry about the stairs when I'm old. I just LOVE those buildings. For me, it's just one of those things that makes my day. Walking around Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Brooklyn, the Village..... I'm in heaven.

"City Living" in Cleveland...
I'd like a brownstone. We don't have them in Cleveland the way I'd want them. Cincy, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Boston do.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
Is this from the Froggy Eats Pigs Ass building? Oh well. I saw that picture of how Brooklynesque it was there with the midrise buildings back in the day. Could it be that we torture ourselves with visions of the past?

Cleveland: Downtown Cleveland Alliance News & Discussion
^^ In my opinion, nearly every public or public-focused entity should have a blog or web site or something. The Internet age demands communication. Maybe back in the 1940s people trusted people to "get it done" but now people view themselves as stakeholders in these things, and that's not a bad thing.
