  1. RE: Green 'hood. Looks super neat!
  2. Don't look at me, I don't make these decisions. And how is that "idiotic" when it's been the no. 1 argument against it from the beginning from the people who want to knock it down. In terms of "trusting" experts, that view annoys me. That has about as much merit to me as knocking it down because its ugly. I think that 5 years ago, someone should have created a preservation campaign for that building. There just isn't enough support behind it. Litt has written this himself...If they were to try and knock down the Rotunda, the public would get into an uproar.
  3. Pittsburgh is very alluring. They are creating a green neighborhood I read about the other day.
  4. I don't know how many arguments you can make... In favor to keep: Created by an important architect An example of an important style of architecture Not many buildings like this are left What goes up probably in replacement won't be as tall, and the potential design is questionable Not in favor: To 85% of "average people" in this area, it's ugly The county says the structure of the building inside doesn't go with what they're try to do It's not considered to be among this architect's best work In general, I am in favor of two ideas, one of which I created. The first idea is encasing it glass. S.Litt at the PD hates this, but too bad. I don't like his columnist mug shot. (This is irrelevant but needed to be said). The second idea is to keep the tower but knock down the thing on the back of it that has the skywalk to the parking deck. Instead, creat a building that is modern and progressive that engages the street in an exciting way. But this thing is getting knocked down, so what's the use.
  5. Awesome! Thanks for posting this!!!! I'm signing up right now...

^^ Yeah, build somethin' plz. All this residential is great, but I'd like to see more retail as I'm too poor and I'll be able to buy books and socks before I can afford a $200,000 condo.

OK, I'm going to sound like a total ignoramous. So people play catch, etc. in there and this is OK? I'm just asking because most cemetaries I've seen have maybe been walkable and good to sit and relax and reflect, but you wouldn't normally like play flag football inside.

So, the cemetary is going to become a park?

Haha, actually she does work for that company.
  10. ^ Yeah, last summer there were two cute girls working in there. Now they're gone ;(

She called it a dollar lot. Maybe it's not technically a dollar, haha. It's near the I-77/90 on-ramp.

During the day, I believe. She works in the Hanna Building and parks in a $1 lot. It's not a good place to park, that's for sure. Her last car got broken into last year in the same lot.

That's interesting. My friend's car got stolen over in that vicinity last month :O We need Westlake police downtown.

What's that mean...Suburban lifestyle center??? Just kiddin'! All this news. It's great!
  15. Excellent point. That name doesn't make sense.

  17. ^What a crappy comment (From the Cool Cleveland reader). Considering I still don't understand what this Web site is supposed to do, I can't really say I think it will succeed or not. However, the one lesson we can learn from the Internet is, you never know what's going to happen. I think this Cool Cleveland reader shows his misunderstanding of viral video with this comment: "Any person who has some musical integrity would not sit through 5 minutes of an amateur band taping themselves." Just last month I watch like 5 videos of a 12-year-old in Brazil shredding. It was awesome.
  18. ^ Wow, this would be a great time for the PD to actually follow-up on news!
  19. I hate how he always paints "the masses" who don't like this building as if they are all philistines. The only argument he ever makes is that the building is important from the perspective of this one architect's career. However, he admits its not even among his best work, and from a functional perspective, he also admits that the building hasn't aged well in our climate. Personally, I'd rather see it renovated and the $20 million saved spent on something more important, like city police. To stray slightly, that city building in Boston is HEINOUS. I know that will get people upset, but it doesn't interact with that section of the city at all. It's like an oppressive, obstinate bolder. Maybe I just am not a fan of the brutalist style.
  20. ^^ Me too. I was thinking it'd make a perfect place to live. But a theater is good, too :)
  21. Argh! I don't think we're going to find common ground here, haha. If the Rock Hall doesn't have the money, then we can find the money. These are not impossible hurdles. I'm so sick of hearing how inadequate Northeast Ohio is all of the time. We need to stop bitching and start making the changes needed. Just for the sake of this discussion, lets say Cleveland right now is just incapable of supporting celebrity life for more than five minutes. By 2010 when the ECP should be done and storefronts should be filling up and Pesht and the WHD and E.4 are starting to click, then we'll have plenty of things for everyone to do! What you'll need to do is shut down all the downtown destinations and reserve them for the special parties, etc. We can do this. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks we can or something. I guess I'll get my cart and roll back to the pumpkin patch.
  22. Well, it doesn't help my cause that the downtown Hilton Garden Inn is exposing people to Hepatitis, muahaha. ::cringe:: I still don't buy it! And I'm getting even more offended by the Rock Hall! What about the Football Hall of Fame? Phil Simms ain't quite Tommy Lee, but I'm sure he and his family are used to getting the best of everything, yet when he or any other NFL player finds out he's going to be in the Hall of Fame, they're going to be on the first flight to Canton. It's supposed to be an HONOR! So, here's my question: Do rock stars respect the Rock Hall? They're not going to play along with the "honor" of entering the Rock Hall if they have to lower themselves to a city like Cleveland? From Heights to Harlem you make some great points, but I still don't agree. The Super Bowl doesn't just attract a bunch of fat football fans -- what about the hordes of media; celebrities; Maxim, Playboy, etc. parties. Detroit went the extra mile to make everyone from regular people to celebrities feel welcome. I believe that if we got the ceremony for the Rock Hall, we'd be able to do "do it up" just as well as anyone else -- even better. How long will the celebs be here? Two or three days max? If we can't make these people feel welcome and happy for two or three measily days, then, come on, that's just pathetic. If in 2007, the Rock Hall says it's moving the ceremony to Cleveland, would nobody come? If that's the case, then I say 'F' the Rock Hall. edit: But that thought that someone in NYC is giving them big bucks to do the ceremony there makes sense, as it seems to me that Los Angeles would be a better place to set it.
  23. Well, it's Cleveland's portion of the road, right? I don't see how it benefits them if people from Rocky River and Lakewood can buzz in and out of the city in 10 minutes. I agree with you regarding the light rail options, of course. In progressive places, rail is always at least part of the discussion and here it's off the table.
  24. OH! You guys are overreacting.... hahaha j/k ;)
