  1. I read the PD because it's local and has the most info. Otherwise, it's not that impressive and is sort of bland. In terms of good local reporting, I think the NY Times has done the best job exposing what's good and bad about NE Ohio recently. Local sports, the Beacon all the way, specifically Brian Windhorst on the Cavs. Weekly entertainment pub: CiN Weekly from the Enquirer is the best "youth-oriented" fun publication in the state, in my opinion. When I'm going out on the weekend, I don't want to get a buzz kill like Scene provides. Best daily overall.... UM... I'm not sure. I like the Dispatch's Web site the best, although it bugs me they put sports above Business.
  2. ^^ I read on the NPR story that the Buffalo move wasn't expected to make a big impact on the local scene. But I don't want to play second-fiddle to Minneapolis! :O
  3. WELL! Yeah, you're right... I suppose I'm frustrated by this PD article and how they phrase certain developments, like moving the port. If they are going to start throwing around complaints before anything happens, could they at least find real critics? I noticed in particular the moving of the port, which they described as this: "But port watchers question whether Carney should be publicly supporting Stark's plan, not just because of their Crocker Park relationship or Carney's downtown property. Observers note that the plan would ultimately require the port to move, costing taxpayers tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars." Are they going to start whining about moving the port whenever it happens? And who are "port watchers?"
  4. Well, that sounds like the witching hour for crime, isn't? That's when the therma cameras, spotlights would be the most useful. When are Los Angeles' cameras up?
  5. Can anyone offer better analysis of this topic from the PD about the port chairman who they say has a "conflict of interest," and how this will impact what's going on downtown? http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/1169373577266510.xml&coll=2&thispage=1 They put a headline like this on the story: Port chairman faces questions of conflict Critics say Carney has stake in projects' fate And then you read the quotes they got, and it sounds like the "critics" are more the newspaper than the usual suspects they talked with. edit: I mean, clearly there appears there could be a conflict of interest. Maybe I'm so gung-ho about this that I don't care. A little corruption got some big things done, ya know?
  6. did you know that most residents of chagrin falls secretly despise you, and call you a "cone-licker" Oh well, I'm lactose intolerant anyway.
  7. Man you're a grouch!
  8. Hey, I've got a question. Is there anything we can do to bring more stores downtown, especially on Euclid? I don't have any money to invest, but I'm sick of complaining all the time. I'd like to do *something* to make things better. If they can put up giant-ass Avon Commons, there's got to be a way to fill up Euclid Avenue........ Right??
  9. And Chagrin Falls is a great place to take a date! I always play the Chagrin Falls card when I'm going out with a girl not from the area or who has never been there. ;)
  10. ^^ They had this in Polsky's in Akron (I think) for Akron U's nursing department, and it freaked me out when I was little.
  11. ^^ Where would you put the parking lot???
  12. I hope the ESPN thing happens just because it'd be a good infusion of mass-market life downtown. We need to show regular people that downtown is a fun place to be. In my opinion, even the idea of putting an ESPN Zone in Cleveland is all about LeBron. We need to milk his superstar status like there is no tomorrow. We only have a finite amount of time with him, even if he (improbably) stayed here his whole career. Without LeBron, we'd have no national spotlight whatsoever besides being poor. LeBron brings media attention to Cleveland, which means that companies are going to want have something in Cleveland to showcase, too, which is why I think that Niketown needs to get down here. It'd be perfect for their marketing/advertising, too. Second, I am 100% behind turning the old convention center into a film center, but those dummies in Columbus (legislators) have to "study" the tax incentives. Those idiots. What the hell is wrong with them?! We need to do whatever we can to get some money in Ohio and create jobs. We're about to lose seats in Congress because of population shrinkage, and they need to think about tax incentives on an industry that doesn't even exist yet. What do we have to lose?!
  13. ^^ Well, you could say that about ANY place!
  14. Wow, neat! LeBron needs to get us a Niketown or whatever they're called.

Maybe these people should take the tour http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3300&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
  16. Got a postcard in the mail today saying there is a neighborhood meeting Thursday, Jan. 25 at St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9509 Lake Avenue, Cleveland. They'll be presenting, discussing design options. Doors open at 5 p.m.Presentation at 6 p.m. and Q&A at 7 p.m. http://www.innerbelt.org/lakefrontwest/lakefronthome.htm
  17. Jamie- not sure what the vig bar is like, but just a stones throw from downtown is the Velvet tango room -super classy (yet not at all stuffy) place to relax with the best cocktails in town. Mind you they come at a price (but come to think of it, they are not more the NYC prices and the care put into them cannot be beat) otherwise I agree, there are not enough "neighborhood joint" type places that you find in OC or Tremont. the only exception I can think of is the Little Bar, which has great burgers, wings, and atmosphere. Thanks! I need to check out the Velvet Tango Room. I think the WHD or Ohio City would be the PERFECT area for a place like the Vig Bar. Little Italy has a few low-key places similar to this...But different. I suppose the Vig Bar might be like Lola but just small and for just drinks.

^^ **NICE!** I will give them a call/e-mail. I have to give 60 days notice on my current place by March 1, and this is very intriguing, provided I can afford it.

I'm interested in lease-to-own, as well, specifically at Schoolhouse Lofts... Where can I get info on that? Thanks! :)

Any idea of how well-paid these people are? It's really something else to be getting the star treatment when your company relocates jobs. At least for once the jobs are coming here!!

^^ WELL! How we were supposed to know! These newspaper articles should come with a "Urban Ohio endorsed" logo!! ;) Good job! Sounds like an awesome tour.
  22. Can anyone explain why the Rapid station at W. 117 is taking so long to construct? They put up whole Wal-Mart and Target stores in less time.
  23. I've been trying to figure out how to get the FCC to take away "Action News'" broadcasting license.
  24. ^^ Not familiar with this pub, but most journalists/editors don't let you proofread an article before it's published.
  25. Maybe you should move back to Cleveland....
