Cleveland's young professionals: West Side or East?
I'm 25, and I live in Lakewood and I just recently discovered a friend from high school in the Akron area now lives across the street. So, there are a lot of younger folks up in this joint. I do go to University Circle, Little Italy and Cleveland Heights quite a bit, though.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I don't think this is very fair. You shouldn't have to be an architect to decide if you like the way something looks and feels.

We bought it, what do you think we should do with it?
Wow, what a great building!!!! Man, I don't even know what you could do with it. Anything! I just like admiring it :)

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
RTA has quite a few bus shelters on its routes, especially on high-traffic routes. You can see them on Public Square. Or near the Plain Dealer. There's one on the corner of Cove and Edgewater in Lakewood across from my apartment. There's one on Clifton and W. 117 in Cleveland. There's a couple near the W.117 Rapid stop. There are shelters at Crocker Park, although they are nice looking, so I am assuming Stark purchased those. They currently use the ugly rectangular, plexiglass shelters. They're all over the place.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
There has been some talk of the style of bus stop structures RTA is using. I visited Cuyahaga Falls today, and saw that the stops on State Road, one of the main drags through town, had solar-powered shelters for the Akron Metro buses. Pretty nice. I think the city paid for them along with streetscape improvements. http://www.spratley.com/munilink/communities/cuyahoga-falls/images/6.jpg Maybe we should try to get support from cities/the Cleveland Downtown Alliance to install good structures on RTA stops?

Lakewood: Development and News
Liberty News is the name. I've been there a few times since it opened (I'm a Lakewood resident). It's OK. They have an A+ magazine collection. Books not so much. Better than driving to Westlake. I'd like to see a good bookstore around here... I have high hopes for the Appletree store relocating to Tremont.

How did your city do (2006)-Cleveland
I will only venture to speak of Cleveland, but the task of improving the vacancy/economic outlook here is going to be incredibly daunting and it will be long-term, and we've got to get some things straight. I read an article recently about how so many states and cities are after the same "new" jobs from companies like Google and Microsoft, etc. If we want to succeed, we need to create a system of job creation within this state. Like a baseball team, we need to nurture talent from the very bottom so that one day they will lead the team into the World Series. In terms of doing this, we suck. A lot of the perks have to come from the state leaders, and considering they are a bunch of Republicans, we aren't too pro business around here. Cleveland then has to tackle its own issues. I've been thinking about this a little, and although I voted for Issue 18, I wish we could have instead funded school/pro-education programs. We need to increase the education levels of kids in Cleveland and the suburbs.

Animals, a Nativity, and fire
I misunderstood. I saw the pictures of the Nativity scene and then the fire pictures and thought the Nativity scene had burnt down and I felt sad because of all those cute little and lambs and things. Please tell me it was an empty CVS.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
^ Yep. I got nothing against the sport of soccer. In fact, I'd support an MLS team in Akron, but I don't think they need to build a new stadium in the middle of nowhere for this. Akron U. is working on creating a new football stadium. Why can't Wolstein team up with the university to share the cost in a downtown Akron location? I know why -- they want to develop vacant land. This is part of the reason I'm not excited by the Flats project.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
I sort of doubt it. This whole deal hinged on public funding of the stadium. I myself would like to see the team in downtown Akron, but they don't believe a team there is sustainable. It sounds like the whole thing was a package deal.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
Soccer stadium proposal dead Beacon Journal staff report A proposal to fund a $170 million soccer stadium in northern Summit County with a cigarette tax is dead. The Ohio Legislature has decided not to allow Summit County to place the cigarette tax before voters, and developer Paul Garofolo said that leaves his plans in "serious jeopardy.'' Garofolo, president and CEO of Wolstein Sports and Entertainment Group, said the state decision could have an impact on efforts to win a Major League Soccer franchise. He said he was frustrated and puzzled by the state decision because it had appeared that the cigarette tax had the needed support. Garofolo's plan called for an additional $157 million of private development: a hotel, two retail complexes and a medical facility. But those plans were largely dependent on the soccer stadium, and Garofolo said he needs public financing to go forward with the soccer complex. Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
My buddy and I hung out on E.4 last night and we had a blast. The thing that's neat about it is, you can eat affordably at Flannery's then walk down to the House of Blues and get a somewhat affordable beer. There are people all over. The lighting is perfect. I love it down there! I actually prefer E.4 to the WHD. It's more my speed. However, I think that the combination of both "entertainment" areas is just so great. And btw, we walked by Lola at night and holy hell, that looked AMAZING! We were not dressed to go inside (or afford anything), but that place looks stunning. I can't wait to go in there. Wow, looks like a masterpiece!

Cincy! Because anything outside of Ohio sucks, imho.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Beyond the boardroom Sunday, December 10, 2006 Q: The Flats project is not a DDR project. It's a Scott Wolstein project. Your critics say that's because the risk is too great for a publicly [fni: no hyphen pls: ]-NT%>traded company. Is that true? A: It's a Scott and Iris Wolstein project. My mom won't forgive me if I don't tell you that. It was my dad and I, and she's taken over my father's interest. Cleveland taxi cab stuff
Hm. Weird, maybe the person that told me this went down Detroit or something.

Cleveland taxi cab stuff
Man, remind me never to take a cab! This sort of sucks, though. Someone told me it'd cost $50 to get from the WHD to my apartment in the GC area of Lakewood. That's a lot of money for a 15 minute ride.
