  1. Can someone explain this to me, is it completely out of left field? It seems very unusual.
  2. I guess when your team sucks, all you can do is be disorderly. Ask Browns fans prior to last year, lol.
  3. In my building every unit has window A/C. In my place, the A/C is placed in a way that most of the time the cold air doesn't get to my bedroom, though, so when I'm really dying I end up sleeping on the couch in my living room. It's not ideal, but I'm not that picky. Now, if you want window A/C and a garbage disposal AND a dishwasher, well, good luck. Actually, you might want to investigate the condo towers on Edgewater (the "Gold Coast"). A guy I work with is renting a place on the first or second floor for $600, and he has carpeting and central air conditioning. Plus they have all the parking you could ever want. You won't get a good view, but you'll probably still have access to the rooftop deck.
  4. I agree with KJP; if downtown looks too pricey, take a look at the inner-ring suburbs. I live in Lakewood and pay $650 for rent, heat, water and a space in our parking lot. If you really want to save some money, dump the car and take RTA downtown. What I have been doing is driving to the Rapid station at W.117, which offers the advantage of being able to wait for your ride in a covered, climate-controlled environment. It definitely adds some time to the drive (getting downtown via car from my place takes like 10 minutes), but you save money on gas, downtown parking and you can just relax and read a book. When the weather sucks, you don't have to deal with all that stress, either.

OK, I just zoomed into my apartment building, a car pulled out of the parking lot that looks a LOT like mine....... edit: I seriously think that might be my car...
  6. What is the wisdom of putting the movie theater directly in front of the Waterfront Line? That seems like a waste of access since movie theaters are physically big but their entry ways small. Why don't they put the residential and street-level retail on the line and hide the theater somewhere else? I don't know about that corporate headquarters bit, either. I mean, it's neat a company gets an RTA stop all to themselves, but how many people are really going to ride it? I'd like it better if it were more condensed and the parking hidden under the actual structure. That'd be my version :)
  7. ^ I like it. I'll blog about this tonight! :)
  8. Hey gang, I'm fiddling with an RTA-inspired blog. The idea is to create a "collective consciousness" about public transportation in Cleveland -- the good, the bad, the ugly, whatever. I want to make it not only stuff I find but stuff from other people in the area, including stories, videos, camera phone pix, etc. Take a look and let me know what you think would be cool. I want to make it fun to read, rather than just a boring "I love public transportation" site. Sort of like "Overheard in NYC." http://today-on-the-rta.blogspot.com/
  9. I'm not thrilled with this idea because I think it's boring and it's a foot traffic killer. I've never heard of anyone window shopping furniture. It's too expensive. Clothing stores can have pricey items, but they also have socks and underwear. That's just me. I think the idea just isn't sexy.
  10. Why? Have you heard the proposal or seen plans? I've seen this before in other downtowns, granted not the size of Cleveland, but I don't think it does anything for foot traffic. I've always imagined Euclid a little like 34th Street near Macy's. Sure, it's a little tacky, but the number of people is cool, and it has to be good for business. I just don't think furniture stores will do that.
  11. I don't like this idea.

I currently live in a newly renovated bldg in downtown with underground heated parking, dishwasher, dryer, washer, carpet, vaulted ceilings and new paint. Since I am willing to spend around $800 for a one bed apt, I would like to have atleast these amenities available. Which building? I'm thinking about moving downtown and this might work.

Lakewood has tons of apartments, but most of them are old, meaning they don't have central a/c, a garbage disposal or dishwasher. I think you could look into the big condos on Edgewater, which are newer and offer rental units. Might be more what you're looking for?

Well, you know what they say about spelunkers....
  15. Soon! I have to move out May 31, so I have two months. I'll probably narrow down the 'hood over the next month and then look for a specific unit. I'm also considering moving downtown, but I'm not sure if it's in the budget. I'd like to keep it around $750-800 including parking.
  16. WELL. It's almost official. I called my management company today and they gave me lip, so I'm putting my 60 day notice in this week! The search begins for a new place to go!
  17. I can, but last year they wanted to raise my rent $75 a month to go month-to-month, which is nice because they don't do any maintenance at all anymore.
  18. I vote for that unit, too! :) My lease isn't up for two months... Freaking landlord requires two months notice though!
  19. Who said that? I've only seen pictures, but it looks nice. Well, I haven't even seen pictures of the interior. I just have seen it from the outside, lol. I'm all confused now!
  20. So, the West Virginia is a dump? That unit looks awesome, Peabody! I'll send an e-mail but I doubt it's going to last until June 1 :)
  21. Does anyone know anything about the West Virginia Building? I drove from neighborhood to neighborhood today trying to figure out where to move when my lease is up in a couple months, and I'm a bit overwhelmed. I adore the look and feel of Ohio City, but there doesn't seem to be many good renting options there besides the Metzner and Merrill, and they don't seem to have vacancies all that often.
  22. If you're curious, this is what the convention center in Las Vegas looks like. From what I hear, this is where people really love having conventions. That's my big concern. How are they going to fill a convention center here? http://maps.google.com/maps?client=firefox-a&channel=s&hl=en&ie=UTF8&dq=CONVENTION+CENTER+loc:+Las+Vegas,+NV&daddr=850+Las+Vegas+Blvd+N,+Las+Vegas,+NV+89101&geocode=7792969973190313507,36.179069,-115.134842&f=d&ll=36.179757,-115.129434&spn=0.003828,0.010042&t=h&z=17
  23. yeah, i noticed you typed that but i wasn't going to say anything, haha
  24. What is up with the Red Line? For the past two weeks, the eastbound trains have been few and far between during rush hour. I waited 30 minutes to get on one today while three westbound trains roared by, 1/2 full.
  25. What I don't get is, these health nazis want to ban trans fats and make us eat whole grain crap for every meal, but they don't understand the basic importance of sustainability.
