  1. Guys like him literally cannot understand this. The city doesn't exist to them.
  2. The South used to have cheap motel rooms like Admiral Benbow or Red Carpet Inns. Charlotte was pulling a lot of people in the 2000s due to Bank of America but that didn't turn out as planned.

Even those aren't a big deal since they require monitoring. The technology has to be full 100% L5 in order to be safe since turning passengers into monitors doesn't work since they turn into Homer Simpson in Sector 7G rather than trained airplane pilots monitoring gauges.
  4. Sorry, quoting individual pictures out of a series often doesn't turn out well for me. I lose my cursor a lot.
  5. Yes, right in front of the building on the sidewalk.
  6. I don't remember those A/C units on the Convention Center sticking out like that before. Were they on the ground where the Hilton is being built? Will they be attached out of the way to the Hilton building when it's done? edit: they must have been in this little green enclosure previously. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9708567,-83.0023506,3a,75y,89.41h,85.11t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1spe2A5CfwiOMrqD6DHJbs1g!2e0!5s20190701T000000!6s%2F%2Fgeo0.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3Dpe2A5CfwiOMrqD6DHJbs1g%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D9.85094%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192
  7. I'm not so sure, Giant Eagle doesn't seem to do a lot of new stores these days and when they do they're really big ones. Even the Grandview one was over 5 years ago now on an easy spot. These smaller ones were old Big Bears that they gave a shot but I think they were always wanting them to be a lot bigger. Even in 2004 when that was all going down the supermarket chains were much more tolerant of smaller stores that weren't super-fancy. And if they do a small one it's a big tadoo. Now the new Bexley is an example of that and maybe they would consider one of those for GV. The income is there in GV, but are there enough kids? Bexley has kids and that helped it get the nice smaller GE. Now the rest of the South Side has a bazillion kids but the income goes way down. Do you build something South Side-ish close to GV but not in it? Like take down an old welding slag storage building or something?
  8. Exactly, they can go live in Grove City and pocket the half-million dollars.
  9. Exactly, because of places like we see in these pictures Columbus can't have nice things.
  10. I can picture some of these kind of shots being used on signs at protests in places where people care. Like if this was going on in Clintonville or German Village for sure.
  11. Everybody knows what they're getting into when they turn on NPR News.
  12. I hear everyone in Florida is moving to Tallahassee
  13. I don't really think it's that bad? I mean it kinda looks like the place to see the d*ck Tracy premiere in 1990 but that's kinda what theaters look like
  14. It's probably not going to happen near term, what with 60% of 18-29s living with their folks right now. This is up from around 50% only a year ago.
  15. It was time to bring back "Heidi"
  16. Wow. But I guess if it was going to close the time would be now.
  17. Anecdotally, they head for the Mid-Atlantic states these days including the Carolinas.
  18. Makes sense. And that reflects the change in what types of immigrants were allowed in during the immigration restrictions that started during the Depression and continued until about 1960. Open immigration was halted during that time but select groups such as Jews, top academics/scientists, people who married in (often through the military) and doctors were allowed in. That's why you see a gap of when established families in downstate Ohio migrated to the U.S. resulting in native Columbusites and Cincinnatians tracing their roots in the U.S. to 150 years plus. It was the restrictions! A friend on another forum who lives in New York City and is of Greek descent is often asked "What is it about New York? You must love it there." he responds "When my folks came here from Greece in the '70s, New York was the only place we could afford to live. I neither love or hate New York. It's just where we ended up." Nowadays, New York is considered a choice for many unless you work on Wall Street or something. You have to make sure your wallet is ready.
  19. Are they trying to save money on living expenses? Or is there a company moving them to town? In Columbus we pick up New Yorkers due to Chase.
  20. Oh I see. So it's not pegged to a certain recent period.
  21. I really thought the WV migration to Columbus slowed down significantly. I can't say where they're winding up; the traditional areas like the South and West Sides aren't exactly filling up. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a lot of military moves to Dayton.
  22. Shouldn't the one in Liberty Township be in this conversation?
  23. Was it 10 years that H&M was at Kenwood?
