  2. Another experience of living in a "warehouse town" is dealing with lost truckers daily. All these different GPS interfaces are terrible at telling truckers which roads are important, which ones are not, which ones are closed to truckers and which ones got closed and converted to bike paths in 1989. There are truckers traipsing all sorts of narrow semi-rural residential roads that they would never even be on if it weren't for tech.
  3. Interest rates need to be higher so that people have a wider variety of real-return investment choices other than just equities and real estate. This would bring housing values to more reasonable levels for one.
  4. What the Big Three do is constantly talk long-term but only act short term. Other automakers do this sometimes as well but the Big 3 are the worst.
  5. Less-profitable projects get cut during these events. If your name isn't F-Series or Explorer you are expendable.
  6. I live in a "warehouse town". It helps cities of 10,000 and under big time, but once you get over 10K it doesn't really do anything except add a bunch of semis to the roads.

  9. Tesla finishes last in J.D. Power ratings Tesla, meanwhile, did absolutely terribly in its first time out. JD Power did not officially rank them because the company said Tesla wouldn’t let it survey its owners in 15 states, but based on surveys of owners in 35 states Tesla’s score was ... bad. In the infotainment era, cars most often find themselves scoring poorly in these J.D. Power ratings due to infotainment issues/difficulty of using the interface. Most of the rest of cars overall has gotten better in the past 15 years which helped all car companies' J.D. Power ratings significantly. Once the infotainment era began and controls began moving away from quick access knobs, buttons and switches to as many controls placed into screen menus as possible J.D. Power ratings began to tumble. In addition the screen can fail itself. Over the past 2-3 years though, other automakers began to realize that they had to return major functions to real buttons and knobs to make the car easier to use and safer. Tesla doesn't do this, though -- it's all screen. Plus the Tesla screens crap out. Listen car companies, tablets haven't been cool since 2011. They're for little kids and salespeople now. To me, J.D. Power ratings were never that important since a car that scores well in the ratings can give immense trouble after 3 years/50,000 miles (looking at you, British cars and modern BMWs) where as one that does worse can give you much less trouble (looking at you Honda and Toyota) after that time frame. So I'm not a big believer in J.D. Power for my uses especially whereas a lease customer might find them more valuable. But the fact of the matter is that people who don't know much about cars take a lot of stock in J.D. Power ratings, sort of like Edmunds and crash test ratings (Protip: Here's what's most safe: the cars that are best at not crashing AND not hurting non-occupants!) And a lot of those people consider Teslas and, much more importantly, buy stocks.

  15. Oh... boy... another Hayabusa (Daria voice). Hayabusas are the Nickelback of bikes -- they put up good numbers but nobody who cares about bikes cares.
  16. They just remodeled a ton of them to look like coffee shops inside full of high tops and burnt sienna and now it's back to how they still looked in 2014.
  17. From talking to you, you're the kind of speaker that can hear these sorts of things where the average person in Columbus doesn't notice any more. Somebody can have a deep Southern accent and literally nobody will say "Are yew from the SOUTH?" to them.

Yeah this is another modern case of Dem union bosses barking at the members to vote Democratic while all of the members' personal networks and chosen media are screaming at them to be Republicans. It's not like the old days where all these blue-collar union guys lived in town, heard few conservative voices, had the local cities' accent instead of a Southern/Applachain mix (regardless of city or trade) and walked/took transit to work instead of drove an F-250 in from two counties away.

  22. ^I'd hate to see what people would say about the property taxes if the place was in Columbus since Columbus has no rollback and the base rates there are higher. They might double!

  24. They want people doing impulsive stuff like this though. Having to go to an actual computer makes you feel like you're actually doing something. The phone feels like Candy Crush.
