Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
Why are we supposed to assume that just because the Catholic schools don't use tuition as a graft that others won't?

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
We don't have an elaborate non-parochial private school system in this state outside of charter schools and I don't forsee a state full of Columbus Academies opening up since a lot of people want their kids to go to school with their neighbors. When I was in private school I hated that all the other kids lived in like Plain City and Beechwold while I was in Groveport. Meanwhile nondenominational Appalachia church is foaming at the mouth to open up in a pole barn.

The vouchers are just going to be a huge transfer payment to the church.

Forest Park: Forest Fair Mall / Cincinnati Mills Redevelopment
Cincinnati has historically been heavily over-retailed whereas Columbus suffers with being under-retailed. This has to do with increasingly stringent household income metrics by retailers. Cincinnati has pretty much always met these metrics to the point that everyone said "screw the metrics" and went bonkers opening stores. Partially this is due to Columbus' reputation for being very open to migrants.

GCrites replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat is the price range of the cars they sell? If it's mostly under $10-15K they are going to sell out often.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
I've noticed that people who think about chip quality are often gloom and doom about Intel. I haven't really thought about chips/processors since the AMD vs. Intel days besides dealing with really old ICs from the '80s as far as repairing video game systems and buying 64K chips to burn PROMs for old cars. The average person thinks about chip brands little if at all. Can that really bring down this whole Intel project?

Newport, KY: Ovation
I used to keep my mouth shut about this developer because I had an interview with them 15+ years ago. But I think a lot of people would still rather live in Cincinnati.

I thought being a soy boy was an insult but now we only want Americans eating it

Madison County: Developments and News
Subsidies for farms now take the form of crop insurance and price protection. Since last year had high yields and high prices we received no subsidies at all. Now I do feel there should be caps on how large an operation can be (very large) and still get subsidies.

That's evidence of more Appalachian influence 😉

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Hmmm, I wonder why TANK spiked more because of 2008 than Metro. But then they both crater ostensibly because of high unemployment.

The plumbing for one thing. That's a real hassle.

Ohio Marijuana News
Yeah the "2 glasses of wine a day" thing is probably more about being around others rather than sitting at home by yourself watching TV like people do without alcohol. Like the best results are seen from being around others that much but without alcohol.

It does keep people from overusing cigarettes and alcohol though. Inhaling any kind of smoke is indeed not good for you. Overusing anything is of course bad for you -- even things that your body otherwise needs daily such as food and sodium.

I think a lot of these places see all these trading card and gymnastics tournaments going all the time and want to get in on the action.

Suburbs Post-COVID-19
Historically true, but now that construction costs are so high all buildings in decent shape have value even if it isn't for their original use. Suburban office is tougher than a mall even but someone really creative could come up with a residential solution in areas with moderate to severe housing shortages -- which is quite common today.

WFH is good for the individual but bad for society. Like a lot of things we do here in the US, really.

I'm surprised Columbus was even on the list. Though all the places where that ostensibly manufacturing income was generated have been double erased.

Columbus: Local Media News & Discussion
So 92.9 didn't stick with their new Alternative format for long. It definitely seemed like one of those formats that sticks around for only a short time when a station flips. In this case it was almost all fairly obscure alternative songs, no ads and little to no DJ chatter. It claimed to be a long-term platform for showcasing local music as well. Other examples I recall of short term formats was the Metal (hey, Yngwie Malmsteen on the radio!) station that sandwiched between CD102.5 and 102.5's current Mexican format for a week, stations doing Christmas music between flips and my favorite -- one that only played "Crimson and Clover" over and over for a month. I can't remember where or when that last one was. Now 93X is dead and 92.9 is My 92.9 playing Oldies in a full format with DJs, news and ads. We actually haven't had an oldies station in town since WMNI which you could pretty much only get on the Hilltop in a car.
