Yeah a buddy of mine got sent there by the military and said he got fat off of all that 3.2 beer he had to drink. Had to just pound them. This was probably 20 years ago.

Springdale: City Center Springdale
I was trying to think of some but all I came up with was Swifton Commons. Everything else is either a lifestyle center, strip mall and/or saved anchor spaces.

Springdale: City Center Springdale
All of a sudden it costs too much to tear down a mall. It also costs an enormous amount to build something this large and intricate in 2024. Since this mall hasn't seen the kind of decay that the 2000s and 2010s dead malls did with roof collapses, vandalism, scrap metal theft, burst pipes, mold etc. watch it survive. No it won't come back as a mall but a structure such as this is not too "valuable" but more like "too hard to replicate" under today's conditions.

Cincinnati still has billionaires funding their symphony and ballet. Though in Cincinnati the symphony also has the additional revenue stream of owning rock venues and being a music promoter for all types.

I mean, labyrinthine alcohol laws are right there in The Bible. Jesus didn't want people buying cold six packs to go anywhere but a bar. He said so.

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
It's good to know we are getting through the 5/1 phase Downtown. It's a often a necessary step in any area that has seen so much demo but the sooner it's over with the better.

A Road Is A Road To Socialism Road
^Remember how before 2000 people used to find out how expensive the insurance was on a vehicle BEFORE they bought it to make sure it wasn't too high? They would cross-shop different vehicles based on the insurance cost and wouldn't buy an SUV if it was too expensive to insure as compared to say, a Camry. Now they don't do that at all. They're getting what they want no matter the insurance cost. It's considered incidental.

GCrites replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat could be kind of risky though. Let's say you play slow ball and in the meantime labor and materials skyrocket. On the other hand right now you can be stuck in Round 3 while interest rates tank and borrowing gets cheaper.

Yes it's very important for a store to have groceries in low-income areas these days since there isn't much left over for discretionary.

Ooof, having a Wal-Mart just up and close is bad. McDowell County WV bad. Walmart will close its South High Street location The Arkansas-based retailer Friday announced that it will not renew its lease at 3579 S. High St. The last day of business will be Feb. 16, though the pharmacy will remain open until March 4. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/02/02/walmart-will-close-its-south-high-street-location.html?utm_source=st&utm_medium=en&utm_campaign=BN&utm_content=co&ana=e_co_BN&j=34214422&senddate=2024-02-02 25 years ago the South Side supported a K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Big Bear and Southland Mall. Now it will be just Kroger Marketplace. A Kroger Marketplace is often a sign that there isn't much other viable shopping in the vicinity. Things haven't really changed that much on the South Side since back then but boy did the stores leave.

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
That's the kind of stuff people in Cincinnati know but people in OSU football-crazed Columbus are less savvy about. Score one for the well-known higher interest in college basketball in Cincinnati. March Madness games would certainly be a bigger deal to locals there.

WWCD shutdown news again. Today is their last day on 92.9 FM after failing to come to terms with the frequency owner. Today we learned that they are going back to free streaming again as they did during their 2020 shutdown. Their new site is WWCDRadio.com Radio is becoming a tougher, more expensive business despite competition from streaming. The loss of CD players and tape decks in cars has actually helped radio some since streaming services in cars require subscriptions, setup time (sometimes each time the car is started) data service and/or preloading while USB sticks also require setup and often tedious filling. So I am less optimistic that they will find a terrestrial home as they did last time. Something slightly interesting is coming out of what is going to be the new format for the 92.9 frequency. Today car radios were displaying 93X WXGT. We oldsters would recognize those call letters and 92X as a popular local station in the 1980s and early '90s that broadcasted Pop until around 1988 when they switched to Hair Rock and Heavy Metal on the 92.3 frequency. In 1992 they Went Country and changed to WCOL where they remain today. Will it be as good as WWCD? Probably not.

General Transit Discussion
Many of the South Asian countries are quite conservative politically so the whole idea of being anti-transit because you are conservative is a product of English-speaking countries but especially the U.S. U.S. conservatives who are against transit are told to be against it or they aren't conservative. Many would otherwise have no opinion on the matter at all.

If our system of government was actually modern laws would have to be re-evaluated on a regular basis to ensure they were having the intended effect. Instead these antiquated weed laws -- that should have never been enacted in the first place -- got to dig in for 100 years.
