  1. Ties don't seem to be hurting soccer's popularity worldwide.
  2. Right about the time I was in school, they were just starting to push the idea that a tie was the ideal result for contests in gym class. It seemed dumb then, still does. For one thing, de-emphasizing competition in physical activity makes it less attractive to boys, a gap video games are more than happy to fill. Hence "childhood obesity", which the pontificators hate to admit is much more prevalent among boys. There's something to that latter point. Admittedly, I lean pro-Iggy (little brother went there and they are St. Eds' rivals), but the buzz among them is that their kids wanted to keep playing and the Northview kids did not. If that's true, they have a point. Conditioning is part of the game, especially at the higher levels. Otherwise, Maple Heights never wins a state title in football and far fewer in wrestling. Binge eating and constant food intake are the real culprits behind obesity. Most people can't get obese eating regular meals. What athletic activity can actually do is lead to overeating later in life after the sporting days are over. Athletes really need a lot of calories to function and if they carry those eating habits over to a less active lifestyle they will get fat. If you've been playing sports since age 6 and didn't stop until 23 or later you don't even remember what it's like to only really need 2000 calories or less a day. Meals like that seem tiny and will leave the ex-jock hungry all the time.
  3. I also heard something about a houseboat.

And Aldi's not open late at night so you won't find yourself going into work at 11PM.
  5. Boy they sure would hate college football before overtime happened in 1996. I guess those guys were wusses and all got trophies too.
  6. I had to turn off 92.3. Every time I turned it back on, they were still going at it. Best as I can tell, Baskin spent 2-3 hours ranting about this. Yep, it sucks. But until they change rules allowing shootouts or otherwise having a rule about how/when to end a tied game, that's life. This is America: Explosive rage over ties.

I can't get that data to support that the latest sunrise is at 7:00AM for Cincinnati. It came up at 7:57 today.

Can't do that. The sun wouldn't come up until almost 10AM in December.

That's cause they're from Cleveland where everybody's names only consist of those letters... ... ... ::ducks::
  10. I'm not passionate enough about my business to write rants of that magnitude. She's right about the "I've been to red lobster and the were out of cheddar bay biscuits IHop was out of pancakes KFC ran out of chicken before ! Do you see a blog about that ,reports in the paper no it's not a big deal." stuff though. If a small business screws up even once or twice it's broadcast over the internet hilltops as far as the eye can see and people will rip you to pieces in their social circle. Yet each McDonalds screws up 20 times an hour but nobody says anything. McD's locations get hundreds of thousands of visits each year and might have one internet review. Somebody could get a bloody finger in their Big Mac with national news coverage and people would be beating down the door the entire time the health inspector was inside investigating with the place shut down.
  11. The first high school baseball game I attended pissed me off when it stopped after the 5th inning.
  12. LOL, one of many. I went to the one in Scioto County that's surrounded by a limestone mine. It had an NFL bed sheet as a curtain.

Columbus really had a lot of stations. There was one just west of Union Station, one just east of the 670 and 71 interchange, one in Franklinton and a small one at Grandview.
  14. Because some white-collar Americans were scared for a little bit.

No you're not a geezer. Offline multiplayer is still highly coveted by kids, teens, college students and families. Microsoft and Sony don't get their money anymore. People like me do. But no way can I keep enough of the Smash Bros. and Mario Karts around -- people aren't giving them up because they aren't being replaced by anything new. Wii U hasn't reached the point where it helps take the pressure off much yet.
  16. I keep telling people.....American manufacturing can and often does compete favorably with Mexico and China. Yes. There are a lot of costs associated with doing business in another country and they aren't going to get lower any time soon.

Since this got bumpz0red I decided to go back and re-read it. Like Dave Mustaine said in "Sweating Bullets", hindsight is always 20/20. I didn't really know that much about the game business back in 2007. However people feel that Guitar Hero, Rock Band etc. were sinister or whatever there is something that I've learned after 5+ years in the game business about that time (and today) that may explain the massive popularity of these games for a time. They were about the only offline multiplayer games available besides sports and Wii waggle. Offline multiplayer is critical to game company success and it started to really die off as PS3 and 360 took over because they didn't have enough RAM to do offline multiplayer with HD graphics. But the systems were powerful enough to still do Guitar Hero and 2D fighters like Street Fighter. Multiplayer offline Call of Duty Goldeneye-style was out of the question because that's four games for one system to handle at once. Once Guitar Hero died and Wii slowed down the industry turned it's back on offline multi and overall industry sales immediately tanked. But what happened is that the prices of N64 and GameCube offline multis has exploded since then in addition to the NES and SNES games that were already climbing. So don't necessarily blame the music games on the death of rock and roll; there wasn't anything else for kids to play with their friends over. All these AAA "movie games" that started about 8 years ago that don't feature offline multi are the real culprits.
  18. What do you mean by that? I don't want an investment in a REIT that's a bunch of dead strip malls. I realize that's not as much of a concern in Cincinnati right now but it sure is in other cities.
  19. We are all products of our time.
  20. Does Kentucky have property taxes on business possessions like it has personal property taxes on individual possessions like cars and motorcycles?
  21. Ah yes otherwise no property taxes on the water.
  22. According to that blog post on the state of Covington's floating attractions, the rent for the Waterfront was only $75K a year. That is quite low for that kind of restaurant square footage let alone on something novel like a boat. I know of some spots in mall food courts that are paying about the same.

Really? I didn't know that. Who in the Hell chose the monstrosity that we got stuck with? I don't remember. The Dispatch covered the proceedings obviously. The renderings aren't on the internet at all. Apparently the OSU library system has those at least.
  24. Why should I drive when a fighter jet is faster?
