The best way to sell someone something is to scare them. Some of the products/services are just as dumb as what you see during judge shows and Maury.
  2. It can't do it on its own though. Even if all 60,000 students claim Columbus, that's still only 8% of the population.
  3. Because we have jobs. People come here to get experience so that they can move to premiere cities. One reason we have so many jobs here is that people here are always leaving but the job still needs done.
  4. Thanks Governing article for leaving out Columbus, the 15th largest city in the country. In Columbus we have 1300 police for 800,000 people for a ratio of 16.25 per 10K. Why aren't we all dead?
  5. Maybe they can train cops and firemen to collect trash and drive snowplows since there's money for them but nobody else. One time last summer I set a demolished barn on fire at our farm and people from the trailer park across the road called the FD. The FD was actually quite efficient since there wasn't any danger to people. First they sent out a pickup truck that had maybe 250 gallons of water. Only when that water ran out did they bother with sending out a big tanker. And there was only 1-2 trucks on site at any given time. I suppose I should have a heart attack if I want the big todoo.
  6. Foot traffic is so tenuous in strip malls these days that everything has to be perfect or people won't get out of the car. Everything with strip malls is motivating people to slow down for a second and getting out of the car.
  7. But they do care about the lack of technology when it seems oh, pre-70s. And phone people want to know where the train or bus is these days.

I can't help but think these clench-jaws actually do have a higher chance of being assaulted because of their abrasive personalities and expensive stashes of weapons that they boast to everyone about. Few things are better to steal than guns.

I've noticed that those guys watch way too many movies.
  10. If they were warm that means the resistance is high and the wire isn't long for this world. With AC wires can get warm, but with DC not so much. When there's problems with DC, the components fry (like switches) but with AC the wire fries first. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Who are these clenched-jaw men that call in? They are so angry with the world. Everybody's out to screw them. Maybe they all just have their jaws wired shut from getting their asses kicked for mouthing off to people.
  12. Good thing you guys don't have access to Columbus TV news.
  13. Well it depends on what you are selling. I don't like too upscale of an audience since once people get a certain amount of money they stop buying a lot of video games -- they participate in more structured activities. Or you know those new title loan places and for-profit trade schools don't want too upscale of an audience.
  14. I wonder how much ad rates go down when paywalls go up.
  15. Especially since the main reason for the project, the two Russian steel mills along the Ohio, never materialized.

I knew a lifelong Westsider who talked almost exactly like someone from Brooklyn.

I used to say "you guys" like a lot of people from Columbus do, but down in Cincinnati women started getting cranky when I did it. So I switched to the Cincinnati "you all" (not "y'all" really).
  18. It took me two months of driving through there every day to stop making mistakes, having to turn around at the K-Mart or Kenwood.

Could the passive-viscous facial expressions be a result of the practice of bands "mugging" for photos rather than smiling like they used to many years ago? Or even how many Lego men mug now rather than smile?
  20. Really nobody's happy with property tax reassessments. If your property is worth more after and you're not looking to sell you're salty because your taxes went up. But if it goes down then your property is worth less and nobody likes that. When property taxes were reassessed here in 2011 the only people I think that were happy were retail landlords with lots of vacancies whose taxes went down because they could lower rents in an effort to lure tenants.
  21. Yes. Remember that in retail both your general location and your specific location must be right. If one or the other is off then you're done either way. So while users may feel that there are similarities between the general location of the proposed Portland TJ's and the neighborhoods where TJ's locations are desired in the 3Cs by the board, remember that the problem with the Portland situation is a matter of its specific location.
  22. Someone showed a picture staging area filling up with culvert and dumpsters on AARoads
  23. So apparently they have started construction on this thing.
  24. Kroger sells undiluted liquor at the Hyde Park and Short North stores that I know for sure.
  25. You don't have to pay for the bike if it gets jacked? That's not how it works up here.
