  1. I don't know if anybody has already seen this, but last year an article appeared on Labelscar about this mall (whatever it's called this week). They had a very strange experience to say the least when visiting at night back in 2010. Scope it here: http://www.labelscar.com/ohio/forest-fair-mall-cincinnati-mills-cincinnati-mall-cincinnati-ohio
  2. I liked the name Ibiza. It made me think of European hedonists.
  3. On the flip side is the availability of taxis, which are much easier to get downtown than in suburban locations. I've found it difficult to get a taxi to take people distances of more than a few miles after 2am because the cabbies want to get home. If you're in Newport when the bars close they won't even take you to UC.
  4. One of the problems with luring suburbanites to Downtown drinking establishments is DUIs. It's easier than ever to get one and people know it. The DD concept is a noble one, but most DDs find the experience miserable.
  5. More blue states subsidizing red states with entitlement spending such as "free" roads.
  6. Kids used to be able to walk or ride their bikes to car dealerships. Now they can't because of sprawl. Hmmmm...
  7. Trolley buses did absolutely nothing here in Columbus.
  8. Public transit is not about racing.
  9. Leases coming up, probably.
  10. There's still a potion of the population that looks at the internet as illegitimate as compared to TV and radio. Since broadcast does take a significant monetary investment and at least semi-professional management team to curate the content, equipment and facilities, they may have a point. Any old nut can start a blog. They took away our public access TV in Columbus almost a decade ago. We still have government TV and Educable. They say it had to do with funding, but the content was often controversial. Like this guy (NSFW):
  11. The '90s exposed the romanticized '50s from broadcast TV as BS, so I'm not surprised that people who spend time in downtowns think it's too hokey.

Sometimes I'm sad that I miss this stuff. Other times not. But the stereo at work won't pick up WLW and I'm not going to stream it and have it come through the P.A. I don't want customers to hear it and have it ruin our reputation.
  13. I went to the Sears to get something close to a year ago and the mallway was blocked off, making it a third-class mall. Cold wafted its way into the Sears as I shopped.
  14. We just tore out an old bridge at our farm because we were worried about this sort of thing. I'm glad we did it before something bad happened.

If something's not too ambitious, it's too short. If it's not too slow, it's too expensive. There's either too many stops or too few. Either too many people will ride it or not enough. There's always something wrong with every proposed rail project to these people.
  16. No updates from me. Since I've started this thread the furthest away I've been is NKY. sux
  17. This has turned into yet another call to design a state with few Republicans.
  18. It would fit in at Heritage USA.
  19. Dan Quayle's father used to be editor of the Portsmouth Daily Times. fun facts
  20. I'm moving to Absaroka.
  21. 1971 called, OSU... Looks like a good place to sell Oldsmobiles.

This is true. We live in a culture where poser is more respectable (in some circles) than having real talent. This crosses across a lot of mediums. Like people telling me I should listen to Puff Daddy's music because he's a good businessman.

Hipsters are basically just poseurs anyway. Old punks, metalheads and skaters have seen it all before.
  24. People sometimes leave land to the local school district in their wills. There's a 30 acre plot just south of Rickenbacker like that. The guy who left it hoped that they would build schools there, but the land is right on the edge of the district in a sparsely populated area.
