Gas Prices
^Man it'll really suck if it gets more expensive to bring everything over from China rather than make it here if the cost of shipping goes up. Then Americans will have jobs. Yuck. And worst of all, the share prices of publicly-traded companies that make all that stuff overseas might go down!

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
I know that's true and I hate it. It's a scaredy-cat move. While I realize that tOSU and Columbus in general are a lot "beerier" than these small/midsize palatial towns that most of the other Big Ten schools are located in, I still find it disappointing and even somewhat insulting that the school makes people lose interest in the games and might even jeopardize the success of the team because something really bad "might" happen.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Yet Ohio State schedules as many home games as they can at noon. They can't get off this noon game stuff that leads to a quiet stadium and half empty, sleepy student section.

Columbus: Milo-Grogan Developments and News
I like how Channel 4 set up the shot in front of the much-less-attractive 1950s part of the building. Make it look like it's not worth fixing up.

Old Milford will also do a major happy dance if they get a station.

Renovation Advice
^^See, that's the thing, is that I don't like all this modernization and renovation before prospective buyers even get a chance to look at the place. I understand that you have made much more money than I have in real estate, but I hate it when people paint over wood accents with a bunch of boring paint for example. I associate granite countertops with reality shows. You're assuming that people will like the changes you made -- which might actually end up backfiring when they offer you less since they will want to rip out the very things you spent thousands putting in. Nobody likes bad gutters, broken A/Cs and under-performing insulation, of course, but I hate the idea of having to go down to the vintage building supply reseller to make the place look how it did before somebody fogged the entire place in and out with white paint three months prior. I'm the kinda guy who wants an old person's house that hasn't been touched so that I can decide what to do rather than be stuck with something made to look like an apartment.

That's like how Dave Mustaine couldn't end a song on Megadeth's first record without some dig like "You think I'm kidding don't you?" or "You better believe it."

US Economy: News & Discussion
The idea behind that one is that when a privately-held company sees growth slip they are ostensibly less likely to fire a bunch of people just because profits were off by a few percent. Publicly-traded companies have the weakness of facing being dropped by fund managers and institutional investors if they underperform.

Small Town & City Decline in Ohio
I spoke too soon! Just found out today that our soybeans actually made up for our crappy corn down at the farm. We actually ended up doing better overall than last year. I never would have thought that on July 4th.

Athens Revisited
That had to be an unusual Taco Bell. I never ate there; we usually had trouble keeping food down the next day.

Small Town & City Decline in Ohio
This year at the farm sucked pretty bad because it was so dry. But prices rose since much of the country was in the same boat. The corn didn't mature properly because it didn't rain at all from May 15-June 15th and it was ridiculously hot.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
Really happenin' Krogers get lots of attention -- resets, remodels, additions. A Kroger like that is a really good candidate for the Marketplace concept due to the diversity tasetell noted. The Kroger on the South Side of Columbus serves a somewhat similar market and has been doing well as a Marketplace for at least 4-5 years now.

Facebook
The Obama campaign is putting dump truck loads of money into New Media. I don't think they're doing all that good of a job targeting the right content and users with their New Media work. They're taking the shotgun approach. Do you have a lot of friends that are Democrats, Independents and swing voters? Just being an Ohioan gets you put in the crosshairs for one.

Facebook
Is that Facebook friend question even legal? And as much as I appreciate the Facebook friends of my business, Facebook simply cannot turn a business from dud to stud. It's just another part of the marketing mix. That's probably why it's free to start a business page on there -- that's about what it's worth. GM stopped Facebook advertising about six months ago.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel ran for US Senate.
If Romney wins, Mandel still might get in if Portman takes a cabinet position. Though I haven't seen Kasich really push Mandel. Or Romney for that matter.
