Seriously though, Maximum Overdrive and Terminator 3 would have been tough to pull off with carburetors, throttle linkages, no computers and brakes that could not be operated separately. But today's cars with drive-by-wire and traction/stability control linked to individual brakes can already be taken over with the addition of an electronic device. They would have to steer with the brakes which would overheat them quickly. But it can be done for short periods of time. Here's an article about a man fired from an auto dealership who took revenge by remotely disabling 80 cars sold by the dealership in the previous month through the web. This is but one reason why I don't trust cars full of gadgets and gizmos. http://www.statesman.com/news/local/police-fired-worker-disabled-cars-via-web-383892.html

  3. Rad. And a great shot of that really steep slide that gets you air time.
  4. Oops, looks like they didn't disable the Print Screen key behind the paywall.

    nice
  6. I demand demolition derby pix if anyone goes! My work schedule has prevented me from going to them for the past 4-5 years. Combine derby and truck pull pix work too!
  7. I think it's actually pretty naive to think that you aren't going to get killed after committing crimes against people that many times.
  8. SPOILER: Atlas Shrugged was a lousy, sanctimonious diatribe wrapped in a thin, permeable membrane of a plot. And the movie had the cinematic qualities of an episode of Law & Order.
  9. They just don't understand. That's why they live in Hillard.

Dokken only ever got a day, not a whole month. Wow.

In the '70s, Wall Street liked it when companies conglomerated. AMF bowling lanes owned Harley-Davidson, CBS owned Fender Instruments and G.E. bought up everything. Those monster department stores of the 20th century were like that -- Lazarus was in the sit-down restaurant, pharmacy and candy business. These days, Wall Street likes companies that focus on their core competencies. Les Wexner really changed retailing by limiting the Limited's selection to only product that was a part of his vision for his store brands. Think about how many store concepts have been started under the Limited's umbrella then spun off into separate companies once they began to flourish. Also think about how cautious Wal-Mart is about adding new departments to their stores. They pretty much just carry the same type of stuff they always have with the exception of larger grocery departments. What about the poor fortunes of the "category killers"? While the "category killer" stores suffer today, it's mainly because of changes in those products they've decided to "kill".

I always forget how hardcore TJ Maxx fans are.
  14. The uncovered Star Wars: Episode IV Bridge does seem really dangerous now that you pointed that out. They should probably get the sheriff's deputies out to that one more often to keep people off of it.
  15. ^ A lot of people complain about the section between 71 and 23 on the South Side and its interchanges. That was the first stretch of 270 completed in the mid '60s and the interchanges are of relatively ancient design. For example, when you travel from 71 S to 270 E, the ramp goes from five lanes down to two very quickly once you've merged onto 270. People wipe out on the short cloverleaf ramps at 23 when it's wet all the time. The whole stretch of 270 trough there is only two lanes. Nonetheless, I don't really care if anything gets done.
  16. These fences ain't gonna stop The Warriors!
  17. The way it's written, people can't even use that snuff people put up their nose.
  18. That clip suffers from Vertical Video Syndrome.
  19. Especially considering how quickly many apartment complexes tend to melt down outside the Outerbelt.
  20. According to the Park Rules: Smoking and tobacco use are prohibited in the following areas: Dog Park, Playground, Musical Fountain, Bandstand Area, Music Hall Plaza, and Civic Lawn. So dipping's banned too. O, the sheer terror that someone with a dip in can unleash on bystanders.

Indeed, cities weren't loud places until all the diesel engines, air brakes, giant A/C units, helicopters, thumping 'systems and loud sirens that could be heard over the racket in tightly sealed cars came into play. That's why when you get off the main drags cities are still fairly quiet.
  22. The cops are on to you, Sherman!
  23. I too will vouch for Weather Channel music.
  24. Perhaps they wanted to make it look like the historic Ohio Pen.

I hate that awful noise that speakers make when you leave a cell phone near them for a while.
