Help me find an apartment in Columbus!
Here's a two bedroom that just put a sign out right next to where I work at the corner of Chambers and Northwest about 2 miles from the hospital. A/C, no pets. Rent's not on the sign but I figure it's between $700-800. It's the brick 2-story building I believe. 614-226-1790 http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Jsh&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1056&bih=659&q=1730+northwest+blvd+columbus+oh&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x88388e5c13ed0809:0xa365ea0950910cd4,1730+Northwest+Blvd,+Columbus,+OH+43212&gl=us&ei=5mqgT5ygHMWqgwej4YnmDQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CB4Q8gEwAA

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Germany, Canada and Australia are well-armed nations and see little gun crime as compared to the U.S. Americans have a strong sense of self-entitlement due to decades of being fed "American Exceptionalism" while at the same time made to feel expendable (especially men). That oddball combination is damaging to the psyche and leads to strife.

Probably because property tax reassessments happened last year during your current lease. That part of town saw its property tax rates increase anywhere from 10-22%. edit: I should say saw its property tax valuations increase 10-22%, not the rates. The rates stayed the same, but they're being paid on more valuable assets. But, the end result is that property taxes increase by that amount.

Thoughts on Hybrid vehicles in Ohio?
I agree with Sherman regarding payback periods. If overall economy is your main criteria, I'd also suggest the diesel. Diesels aren't as annoying and they used to be, and you don't have to keep a Trucker's Atlas around anymore to find diesel. Hybrid interior space is compromised due to all that "innovation" lurking beneath the seats. And you don't need a team of engineers on retainer if something goes wrong. But, right now diesel is 30 cents more per gallon than gasoline, Britain has a fuel shortage, the Saudis are probably overstating the size of their oil stash and the Japanese are moving away from nuclear power in favor of oil and gas. Nonetheless, both a diesel and a hybrid are going to use oil and hybrids in practice don't seem to average very close to their rated MPG unless you hypermile. And hypermiling is practically impossible in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
That's already an extremely bustling area. Go down there tonight and try to find a place to park, then spend 2 hours waiting for a table at any place half a block away on Vine. Streetcar or not, those are hot properties, which makes COAST's "complaint" that much more absurd. I live in Columbus now, so it's a bit harder for me to pick up on hotspots around the 'Nati like I used to. I'll be in Cincy for a day sometime in the next month or so to do some business and poke around, though.

Well, that's part of the joke. The people that work on the Daily Show have 4 out of 5 of those types of degrees. That's the Today Show, not the Daily Show. Different demographic. Oh, oops. I guess some of those degrees are also represented at the Today Show.

I didn't know that when I was a kid, but watching the show now I can kinda tell. His look changed a lot more often than the average straight guy's.

Have you talked to Colony Club, Heritage (often backed up with a waitlist) or The Chambers? They're not superlux or anything but are close to the hospital being off of King and/or Chambers. Columbus is full of secrets, so you may end up having to come up one day to walk or ride a bike around to look for rent signs. Most duplexes and 4-plexes around here rent this way. To get my duplex a block north of Grandview, I had to talk to my management company from my then-current place in Bexley and tell them that I wanted to move to that part of town. They put a sign in the yard of my new place and got 30 calls within days, but I was at the front of the line since they'd worked with me before and had my deposit. The other side of the duplex went up for rent on the 1st of this month and also rented within a few days, so it is indeed competitive. Oh, and don't call sneakers gym shoes -- Columbusites won't know what you're talking about. And bags are called sacks.

Fund managers too. They manage a huge portion of the world's assets. And they like growth, especially in more aggressive funds.

You gotta watch that stuff with overhead electricals. We all know about getting electrocuted, but that crap can fall on you as well. I know a guy that was just driving past the scene of a crash when a transformer fell onto his car and nearly crushed him to death.
