Columbus: Downtown: Highpoint / Columbus Commons
^ Yep, the Columbus area is ridiculously green because it rains a ton, the ground is flat, much of the soil is highly organic and a large portion of our land is poorly drained. We're only a couple steps away from a swamp.

US Economy: News & Discussion
One thing I noted from the article (I'm not all the way through it) is that a lot of the empty spaces in the article is that they are the work of either mergers, corporate mistakes, technological changes (Blockbuster) or stores that just aren't "cool" (Sears, KMart, Best Buy) any more. The author has to be talking about Atlanta since it's the only place that had both Donato's and Safeways around except Smithsonians. When McDonald's owned Donato's they went bezerk opening 30+ Donato's all over Atlanta, blasting them with Midwestern pizza that they may or may not have wanted -- at least in that quantity. So, I don't totally buy the doom as well, at least for popular, conservatively growing stores and restaurants. But it's the developers' own faults for overbuilding and convincing companies to move the party to the next freeway exit every 10 years.

Ohio: foreign-born population & immigration data
^Many Americans don't know how much kidnapping goes on outside the U.S., Canada and Western Europe. There's a ton. People of all ages and backgrounds. A buddy of mine teaches businessmen and other professionals English at a private language school. He doesn't know their languages, so it's a "Jump in the Fire" situation intended to prepare them to work with English speakers.

I don't have kids, but if I did I bet I'd really dig having more parks around.

Columbus: Fifth by Northwest (5xNW) Development and News
GCrites replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat's an esoteric part of Chesapeake to say the least. The complex will raise its profile quite a bit. Folks moving in will be able to walk to Kroger, Meister's Bar and Super Game Team! cough, cough (plug) cough.

It's one (very bad) thing for him to say that face-to-face with people who don't know any better, but if he starts saying that on the radio the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards is going to start getting pissed off if he doesn't actually hold that certification. He's not listed on the CFP Board website. In fact, any time the term CFP® is used by a financial professional in print they have to put an ® next to it and a ™ next to Certified Financial Planner™.

Naw, in Columbus suburbanites and even a lot of people who grew up in town think Columbus only has like five different neighborhoods.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
My folks are in their 70s and have a lot of doctor's appointments. I'm an only child and we don't have much in the way of an extended family left in the area. My folks have their friends take them to that stuff since I can't do it because of my work hours. Worst comes to worst, they can pay someone around town (they live on a farm outside of a small town) that needs work to take them places. If they lived in a suburb where nobody knows anyone else, they'd be in trouble. Score one for small towns, I guess.

One of the first things police ask you when you are the victim of most crimes is if anybody's pissed off at you.

Columbus: American Addition Developments and News
Aggressive annexation has made Columbus a bit of a strange place. I doubt we'd be talking much about this if it were in a township instead.

So the super '90s teal, pink and purple McDonalds has been torn down and replaced with one of the new coffee'd-out ones. Guess it was about that time.

Things must be bad in Greece; one of my favorite internet radio stations called Discomania was out of Greece shut down. It was a fun mix of Italo Disco, Sandra, Whitesnake and Saxon.

The 30-minute lunch that has gotten popular in recent years doesn't help.

Pet Peeves!
I think the other Columbusites are all over at Columbus Underground. Cleveland, Cincy and Ohio's other cities don't have something as popular as that.

Not a bad idea. But it might happen on its own. Skyscrapers are really expensive, and we as a nation have kinda gotten away from the notion that every city needs a ton of skyscrapers to "keep up". Instead, it's more of an amenities derby today. Hell, Columbus as fewer skyscrapers than it did ten years ago since they tore down those Grant nursing school dorms.

Ohio: foreign-born population & immigration data
That's what I meant. People don't know that they're messing it up. You even see authors, historians and cultural geographers mix 'em up.
