  1. I think David lives in downtown Canal Winchester now. Haven't heard from him much lately on the forum.

I like buying sneakers at Sears because they're reasonably priced, it's mostly self-serve and the place isn't crawling with teens talking loudly on their cell phones like other places that sell gym shoes.
  3. this is an interesting comment. I recall an article a few years ago (I think in the NY Times, but I couldn't find it online) about German tourists going to Cincinnati on group tours, obviously because of the city's rich German heritage, but also for its cultural and historic attractions generally. Don't know if this is still going on. Yes. I'd see Germans hanging around town all the time when I lived there. On a train in Germany, we talked to a guy who had just gotten back from Cincinnati two weeks before. For what it's worth as anecdotes.
  4. There's an old one in the 2900 block of South High that's been turned into health care.
  5. Nickelback. Ruining dining experiences since 1999.
  6. As a former daily Metro rider I can vouch for this anecdotally. On most trips you are going to see a broken escalator. You get used to it. It probably helps D.C. residents be among the slimmest in the country. People don't mind the broken escalators since they see so many attractive individuals during their trips instead of all the Jabbas you see in unwalkable environments.
  7. Oh man, when I was a kid, a ton of the library branches in Columbus looked like the Driving Park one inside and out. I bet it's the last one.
  8. She might have been recruited from out of town by the school.
  9. Or the spaced out guy he played on Taxi.
  10. Gotta have more room for Kardashian news. I remember that the local paper in my grandparents' part of the state (the Monroe County Beacon) was still publishing things like the financial reports of the local school districts in the '90s. I got to see how much all the coaches were paid, the costs of building maintenance, what they were spending on diesel, etc. Even though I was probably 15 at the time, I feel like I grew up a lot that day.
  11. There's been a lot of discussion about that rejection. So far this year, the far right has pissed off the military, police and firemen. Many churches are rapidly revising their stance on homosexuality. And now the far right starts angering auto suppliers by refusing transportation choices for their employees. They're not going to have any friends left.
  12. Probably not that many 'net genners among their ranks.

Sounds like this interview was in Cincinnati.
  14. Effort spent on witch hunts should be redirected to telling others the benefits of enhanced public transit and walkability.

I'd say employers do care about your past work experiences in high school, college or some crap jobs you worked in your 20s. But that has to come out in the interview in the way you speak. Does this person have a work brain or are they stuck in school mode? Some people have work brains even before they start college from working a lot at terrible jobs as teens. Basically, if someone has worked a tiring job with a ton of nights and weekends and abrasive co-workers (or customers), the notion of having a 9-5 job working on fulfilling projects with an intelligent staff can sound like heaven. But, if you don't have the room, the choice between putting a crap job on your resume and something specific to the job description is a no-brainer.
  16. ^So that's why there's that strange concrete alcove next to the Bigg's wing entrance.
  17. I thought it was the FTON logo you disliked. That too. ha
  18. That same kind of negative mentality was rampant here in Columbus until the late '90s. "We're a Cowtown" "No bands come here" "We're Minor League" etc. All it took for that attitude to subside substantially was a few projects: Polaris Amphitheater, The Arena District and Easton. Sure, Easton is suburban in feel and Polaris already closed as a result of it's "high-real-estate-price sprawl" location, but they gave us the can-do spirit to begin reinvigorating our core. It only takes one or two major achievements to change the attitude of a populace, and Cincinnati won't have to start with a blank slate like we had to in 1990.
  19. Your trips out to Portland with Cincinnatians have certainly helped, John. One of my old landlords went out there years ago, probably with you (I neglected to ask) and came back impressed.
  20. That section of Olentangy is aging poorly, so this hotel project is good news.
  21. Are there still pool tables at Tangeman? There are 3 or 4 in the basement, in what is UC's best kept secret: Catskeller. It's one of the best beer bars in the city, with 8 microbrews on tap at any time, and beers like La Fin du Monde for $4.25. I remember when it first opened and they only had something like bud light. Sounds like it is much improved now! Good news. Yeah, they just had coolers with bottles in them. They had maybe one or two high-end beers available back when I went there. On test days we'd finish our tests early, go down there, drink a couple beers and go back to class for the last hour of lecture.
  22. I agree on all this District stuff. The Arena District is fine, but all these other ones sound too made up. And using "District" all over town sounds kind of Iron Curtain. I think Market Exchange District may have been come up with by one guy; the guy who owns a lot of the buildings and is the son of the man who owned Jack Schmidt Oldsmobile-Peugeot. There's a Blast From the Past for you.

Yuengling is in the midst of a heavy marketing blitz right now, so I'm sure part of the buzz in Ohio is because of that.
