Bastard child of a victorian and a McMansion
The funny thing about all this "car culture" and "America's love affair with the car" stuff equaling attached garages in the front of every house is that people who are actually into cars have detached garages out back. There's too much chance of a fire burning down your whole house when you work on your cars or have older ones hanging around in an attached garage. In addition, collectors don't want everyone in town seeing their expensive cars all the time.

The Continent, Columbus
New Market Mall and that little mall they just tore down in Norwood were quite similar, though New Market has more of that "Post-remodel Double Deuce" (from Road House) look to it.

Major Concert Venues of Ohio Cities
Believe it or not, I think the number of metalheads is about the same in both cities and I kind of like Italo Disco. If you are an alt rock or indie (as in the genre, not label status), Columbus is the place to be. This city has an insatiable appetite for that kind of music -- sometimes at the expense of all other genres. That's one reason Cincy might get skipped by those bands.

Ohio State Fair 2010
We don't have nearly as many Catholic festivals in Columbus. Kinda like how Cincinnatians come up to Columbus and expect to be able to get pony kegs everywhere. ;)

Ohio State Fair 2010
State Fair-goers seem to have lost some weight.

Major Concert Venues of Ohio Cities
Cincy's a good stop if Atlanta, Nashville or Knoxville are on the schedule. I've noticed that Iron Maiden don't stop in Cincinnati much these days.

Major Concert Venues of Ohio Cities
A band never plays Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland/Blossom and Indy during the same tour. If Cleveland and Cincy get a show, Columbus never does. And, usually, if Cleveland and Indy get a show, then Columbus doesn't. Columbus and Cincinnati both can get a show if Indy and Cleveland don't.

Peebles, Ohio
The sidewalks probably got all lumpy. On the other hand, Southern Ohio does see a lot of tree disease.

Ahh, '90s digital pix. My avatar was taken in 1997 on a digital camera that my high school owned. It held 7 pictures.

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
^Right. I'm just trying to piece together info about this obscure bit of Columbus rail history. Whatever it was, I know it only ran for a few years. There's very little info out there.

As David alluded to, suburbs and exurbs are urbanized areas. Most everybody here knows that, but the term can confuse those that are unfamiliar with the topic.

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
The steam dummy... that might be the special rail system in the area that I know I learned about when I was a kid, but later forgot about. I vaguely recall learning about a very old "short, single-line subway" in Old North Columbus/Clintonville, but it could have been a steam dummy. It's been at least 20 years since I heard about it.

Invasive Beetle Alert--Brought to you by cheap Chinese plastic crap?
Each ship sent to the Orient returns with wonderful spices and silk -- the likes of which we in the Occident have never experienced previous to trade. But forsooth, undesirable creatures not of this land also arrive as stowaways.

Rethinking the Role of the Local Government
I've got some ideas: county schools lose the townships larger water and sewer districts more gravel roads schools funded by somtehing other than property taxes Notice that these are things most "proponents of small government" never suggest.

All that cool stuff was ridiculously expensive to install and maintain, though. It's tough to make money off of that stuff 50 cents at a time.

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
Maybe we need to get more of a chip on our shoulder. Not "We have the Buckeyes so we're awesome" because people in other cities hate that about us already. And not "We have shopping near 270 so we're awesome" because it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things especially when it's out there. It should probably be more along the lines of "Don't screw with me for being from Columbus" and "I don't say Columbus Ohio". I remember seeing Iron Maiden at Polaris in '05. One of Bruce Dickinson's crowd-working staples is saying "Scream for me (location)!" That day, it was "Scream for me Columbusohio" I was thinking, "What other Columbuses is Maiden going to play at?" They maybe only ever played another Columbus before 1983 or in the mid-'90s when they weren't big in the States.

Your Technology footprint
Ahahaha, I used to used to go to the landlords' office downstairs to do stuff. Then one day they asked me to help them with their server. I was known as "The Finance Guy" at that time. Finance people always get asked to fix computers when there's no IT people around. Problem is, I don't know anything about servers.
