  1. Fair enough, but what if your job was "only" going to stay there for three or five years? That's a respectable tenure at a job and a respectable tenure at a residence. So I'd still tell someone to consider living downtown, if their living situation is conducive to it, for a few years--and then, if and when their job *does* move out to the suburbs, just move then. You get some good years out of the city that way and then adjust when your employer does. There is such a thing as worrying too far in advance. Living near the core gives you more options when you switch jobs as well. That is why it is the core. You are within a 15 mile radius of MANY more jobs in the core than in a suburb, and you are within many more jobs within a 1 mile radius than ANY suburban location. Are jobs going to continue to move out to the suburbs like they have in the past, especially in the long term?
  2. I know that size is important to a lot of people, but when they get the size they want (not need) they just end up wasting it.

^East Coast girls are a lot more aggressive than Midwestern ones.
  4. Hmmm. This article shows the delusions of grandeur some suburbanites have regarding their living arrangement. Derided no more, suburban life is turning serious AP By ALAN SCHER ZAGIER, Associated Press Writer Alan Scher Zagier, Associated Press Writer – 45 mins ago SHAWNEE, Kan. – The numbingly similar tract homes, endless strip malls and multiple minivans filled with youth soccer players indelibly mark this former Indian mission territory as a Kansas City suburb. Look deeper, and a more nuanced portrait of Johnson County, Kansas emerges: an economic powerhouse that has eclipsed its big-city neighbor in political influence. An educated community with a vibrant arts scene. And a cultural melting pot where Brazilian grocers and Vietnamese nail salons blend in with the Walmarts and Burger Kings. Suburban America has been the butt of jokes and stereotypes for decades. The portrayal persists in Hollywood, which continues to zing the 'burbs with over-the-top tales of conniving, desperate housewives and wayward soccer moms in bed with Mexican drug lords. 5. I can handle the change from CD101 to CD102
  6. OH16 though downtown can be pretty hairy at times.

I bet these schools don't have any pencils. If they did, they'd be called the Pennsylvania Schools.
  8. Don't forget headcount, which is the lowest number.

I've been petaling my wears at the store this week.
  10. Even though I'm from here, I feel somewhat left out of Columbus culture because I didn't attend OSU. Almost all of my friends here are blue-collar guys, and we are really disconnected with High Street culture even though we've partied there, work close to there, have been to plenty of events in the area, have no aversion to it and follow OSU football. There's really two cultures in Columbus -- the one revolving around OSU and its associated activities, which also includes UA, Grandview, and even Dublin, Worthington, Westerville to some degree, and then there's everyone else. We sometimes get tired of everything happening in one place -- for example, seeing bands. In Cincy, there's places all over town to see live music. I suppose Columbus does have live music in places other than around campus, but it's gonna be Nickelback covers in a strip mall.

I remember telling East Coasters that it took 5 1/2 hours to get to DC from Huntington. They always crapped.
  12. Lots of states do just fine with no townships and county school systems.

    ^ It's true
  14. I'm pretty sure there's a law requiring state schools (at least) to notify the campus community of major crimes near campus and to report crime statistics on a regular basis to the community.
  15. What browser do you use?

I like the old rest areas. I was disappointed when they turned one of the last awesome '30-'50s ones (which was on OH 28 between Cincinnati and Chillicothe) into a local park. There's still quite a few of the mid '80s non flush toilet ones around -- a couple on US50, one on 93 north of Ironton and one on 78 west of Woodsfield immediately come to mind. They're the ones with concrete buildings. You still get to use the sweet hand pump water fountains at 'em as well. I'm a total guy.

MTS is going to try to take your gay card for buying welding supplies.

I can totally picture Cleveland being like that. In Columbus, everything gets remodeled every 4 years (obviously not always a good thing), so all the gas stations have bathrooms. Cincinnati, well, there aren't that many gas stations until you get to the inner ring 'burbs, and on the East Side at least, they're pretty modern.
  19. That $79 per-chair fee had to be brutal once the smoking ban hit and half the seating of a lot of restaurants moved outside.
  20. I wonder if the new one is going to be unveiled on Easter by rolling a big fiberglass rock out of the way.
  21. ^ You know, that could be a big part of it. Since papers are losing business, they know that they have to stir up even more (crap) than they used to on a slow news day to keep people talking about the paper.
  22. How were they able to strip the building before all the deeds were transferred?

Take it back now, y'all. Turn it up. Hands on your knees, hands on your knees. Criss cross. Turn it up. Take it back now. Turn it up. One hop this time. Turn to the left. Take it back now, y'all. Turn it up.
