US Economy: News & Discussion
Do schools still bus? Not "bus" as in drive kids across town to achieve racial balance, but instead just moving kids from one suburban/exurban sprawl zone to another to get them to a massive centralized middle or high school.

Not Fooling Anybody in Ohio (commercial conversions)
There are a few old Sister's Chicken 'n Biscuits locations around Columbus. If you remember, Sister's was a chicken chain started by Wendy's in the '80s. Most only stayed open a few years. Here's the ones I can think of off-hand: Hamilton and Livingston: now a Rob 'n Go S. High and Williams: now Ohio Deli Hamilton and Broad: now a flower shop

Rethinking Transport in the USA
^ That is an important fact that for some reason has to be reiterated over and over to a large portion of the U.S. population. Maybe one day they'll understand.

I'm aware of all that.....But, maybe she should think of some other things as well...one being you don't put sleeveless clothing on huge arms. Its not flattering to the wearer...or the camera....or the wedding. The right clothing on the other hand showcases things in a whole new light. I think there's just too many sleeveless women out there, period. I mean, arms? Who gets turned on by arms? When women started wearing trousers everywhere, they started showing their arms?

School systems are throwing so much of their money away on busing, it's sickening. Stupid sprawl.

Ooooh, ooh, me, me! '70s retail strips in Columbus are a festival of this phenomenon. The fun begins when heading north on Hamilton at Refugee. On your right, you will first spot a Rob 'N Go in an old Taco Bell. Next up will be a Papa John's in a former G.D. Ritzy's. Then, the Aquarium Lounge can be identified as an old Denny's. Across from that, there was a Chinese place in an old Ponderosa, but it's gone now. As we move further north toward 70, we can see that the roof on the Platinum Fox strip joint has just collapsed. By it's architecture, it can be identified as an Elby's in a previous life. An even more saturated example can be seen between McNuagthen and Brice Roads on Livingston. Within only about 200 yards, 8-10 old fast food and family restaurants can be found re-purposed as local fast-food, bars or other businesses, while others sit empty waiting for someone to make them a "Not Fooling Anybody poster child. WalMart landslide in Pittsburgh blocks major road, rail service
^ Well, the way things are now, we are pretty close to a Third World country -- we have a non-comprehensive transportation system, massive abandonments, an increasingly unhealthy citizenry, things are perennially under construction, decaying infrastructure, almost-temporary housing materials, etc.

ProkNo5's lazy roommate would disagree. LMAO!! HAHAHA!!!! Thank you for bringing that back from the dead. I can't remember who had that on their profile. I tried to show a friend and couldn't find it...is it gone? Check KOOW's tagline I rode past a Subway outside Zanesville today that had a drive thru.

Where's middle C? Looks like Franklin is the A just below middle C, so I've got that figured out.

Columbus: Innerbelt News
More at link. It appears that the South Innerbelt (70/71/315, 4th) is a Tier II project, meaning that it may or may not happen, while the East Innerbelt (71/670, Broad) is a definite. State keeps I-70/71 plan on track Review panel commits $512 million to rebuild stretch with most safety issues Friday, August 28, 2009 12:07 AM By Bill Bush, THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH A state transportation planning committee approved an additional $17.5million to keep a major portion of the $1.6 billion redesign of Downtown highways on track to reconstruction in two to three years. The state Transportation Review Advisory Council voted 6-0 yesterday to raise the amount it has committed to the I-70/71 project to date to $512.7 million. That will cover the design and construction of a stretch of I-71 from just north of the I-670 interchange south to I-70. The remainder of the project - continuing west to the Downtown Rt. 315 interchange - is considered a "tier II" funding request, meaning it is not guaranteed funding and may or may not be constructed. Columbus: Innerbelt News
Big news! I don't have time right now to make a full post with an article or anything, but I just saw on Channel 4 that ODOT had a meeting where they decided on or are considering the idea that are only going to do the northern portion of this project, I-71 from I-70 to 670.

Ah the early fall, when there are the most hot chicks on any campus. I don't know what happens to make a lot of the hot chicks disappear later in the year. I think they hole up in their dorm rooms eating ice cream and chocolate while watching Disney movies, cut off all their hair and turn into fat girls. - Columbus' East Side in March '06
