What are you doing to Combat the Recession?
The U.S. as a society does need to recognize that our attitude toward work is rather sad and desperate as compared to the rest of the world and is why employers can get away with terrifying us into working way too hard. It's slowly killing us all and is why our international friends say Americans lack dignity. Advice along the lines of "You need to be banging on as many doors as possible!" and "How many resumes/applications did you send out this week? If it's not 50, I don't want to hear any complaining!" is accusatory, insulting and just misguided overall. Ask anybody who works in the career advice/development field, and one of the first things they will say is, "Resume/application 'blasting' is a complete waste of time and effort and is incredibly draining." Not only is it horribly ineffective, but how can you possibly be ready for a callback and interview (possibly the next day) from one of the 100 companies that you contacted? You can't; and they will sense that you aren't committed/interested in the job. In any economy, you pretty much have to network with people that you know very well, not just someone you talked up at a cocktail party, to get anything decent (except sales, where the main skill is building relationships and trust out of nowhere). Random applicants that are hired often take forever to earn trust within a company, if they ever fully earn it at all. Never forget about starting your own business.

I'm so excited that they will finally sell us the exact same better-tasting and much healthier sugar-sweetened cola that they sell to everyone in the world except us. I'm pretty sure that the U.S. is one of the few places in the world where they are allowed by law to feed us that corn syrup garbage.

Cincinnati :: Abandoned Subway (Recent Photos)
I borrowed a book from the library about two years ago that had a picture of a nearly-completed above-ground subway station. It didn't list the location or the year the photo was taken, but the photo was clearly old. Does anyone know about it? Does it still exist?

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
^Pre-Interstate car use was exactly how the today's car use should be -- fun, adventure, racing, tinkering, local deliveries etc. instead of forcing almost everyone to use it for every mundane task.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Blockbuster has been a joke for a long time. They are too expensive and soulless. Netflix, rental machines like Red Box and MovieStop and local used video game/DVD stores that sell DVDs for $5 have made Goldbuster obsolete.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^ Good read. I was wondering how much the electric bill for the streetcars will be. I'm glad to see an article on there that doesn't read like it was written by someone who owns a tire factory.

Cincinnati: Oakley - Oakley Square Renovation
Blockhead American drivers need to learn how to drive in squares properly. People always screw up. I can understand people from a city without many squares would make a lot of mistakes, but Cincinnati is full of squares and ambiguous intersections.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
Casinos that you can't smoke in don't do nearly as well. None of the states around us have that problem. Well, WV has a smoking ban, but I believe casinos and gambling dens are exempt. I know bars are -- most gambling dens there are technically "bars".
