Re: the last pic- Columbus sure does have a lot of beer drive-throughs. They are so lame. I hate having to ask for beer and feeling hurried to make a decision by cars behind me.

I saw one of my old dwellings in this set as well.
  3. I think that 4, 6 and 10 have done a good job of erasing the names of neighborhoods across town. They just say East Side, South Side etc. while news in other cities actually give the neighborhoods' names, no matter how obscure they are. The only name I recognized was Merion Village -- and I don't think they even say that one on the news.
  4. When I read anti-streetcar comments, it makes me think that people are brainwashed to think that cars really are the only way to get around, especially since most of them know absolutely nothing about cars. The funny thing is, I LOVE cars -- for fun. I love cars much more than these people do, and I know 100x as much as they will ever know about them, yet I know that cars are only a small piece of the people-moving puzzle.

So, MTS, you aren't interested in checking out the "hardware"? I guess it's not like straight guys and boobs where we just cannot help but look.

I think Southern/Appalachian accents are much stronger in the Columbus area than in Cincinnati. Besides the north side of Columbus and Delaware County, there are some 'billies!
  7. That AEP section looks like an old power plant. Kinda fitting, I guess.
  8. A Halle's department store and an ice rink were there before the mall, with perhaps a few smaller buildings as well. And yes, the buildings may end up looking somewhat similar -- though I think the Halle's building ended up with steel cladding covering it.
  9. ^ Haha, I noticed that on WLW when someone calls from Kenwood, Blue Ash, Mason, Milford, Loveland, West Chester or Fairfield the host announces it, but everyone else is "calling from their cell phone".
  10. Nope, en Espanol, if there is one male present the entire group is given the male word. I've gone off-topic once again.
  11. Next door, the York on High, formerly a Free Mason building. I wonder what they sell at that "Signage" place.
  12. That Europe show on PBS was just talking about that last week.
  13. Got to keep building! Not enough empty buildings in the metro yet!
  14. Looks like Snowman's getting some Go-Go Juice before cramming some groceries down his neck.
  15. Well California is seriously in debt. I can see a exodus. Everybody's doing the Toxic Waltz! There's a chance that nobody knows what I'm talking about.
  16. The golf store was a seasonal store open only in December. "Oh no, the Halloween store closed!" Since Christmas, three jewelry stores, the KB Toys, a sports store that may also have been seasonal and a beads store have closed. But anyway, major duh on a mall being slower in late January than in November.
  17. I'm surprised Columbus did so well.
  18. Some people buy almost everything they own at flea markets and go there every week. The only things they can't get there are some groceries and medicine.
  19. What I learned being an outsider who earned a Master's in Cincinnati is that many of the corporate jobs in town go to those with baccalaureate degrees from UC who did co-ops at those companies while in school. If you come to town to get a Master's, don't be surprised to have the jobs you are competing for go to people with Bachelor's that essentially have worked for the company for two years already. Most graduate students don't get to do co-ops. Internships are limited here due to all the co-ops, and if you are like me and choose a one year accelerated program, you won't be able to do one.
  20. Crappy sales, where the merchandise isn't marked down that much more than a normal sale, you have absolutely no return privileges or store warranty, no one will give you any buying advice, and you feel like you're walking around in a morgue. "Authorized liquidations" and going out of business sales conducted by outside marketing companies are cattle calls for consumers and big wastes of time, IMO. Never again. ^Ahahaha, when KB Toys was "clearancing" all their video games as part of their closure, they just marked them at GameStop's price. 40% off my ass!
  21. With the US33 bypass finished, the city can focus on reurbanizing.
  22. ^ My folks always stayed at the Vernon Manor when I lived in Corryville (my place had no extra sleeping room). It is in wonderful shape and is an asset to Cincinnati.
  23. ^ Ahahaha, somebody should remove the text and Photoshop a Chevy Tahoe full of fat exurbanites in front of the streetcar so it looks like the Deathrider is coming for SUVs. I've been looking at too many NWOBHM album covers.

No Sugar, Brown Liquor songs. Songs with feeling and emotions. Yes, yes! I have written lots of songs that I am proud of (with vocal melodies, too) while drinking whiskey. Half the songs I write sober end up in the trash.
