  1. It certainly does seem that there is something in most of the food there that old people really love but makes younger people gag -- as if it may not be a age/cultural thing but instead the food fulfills an actual physiological need for older people.
  2. I think its great they were willing to dedicate roadway for some great bicycle space. Not just a line down the road. Several major planning and urban publications have called this project one of the best pedestrian/bike developments in North America. I am kind of surprised from a planning stand point that you would not find such a focus on the pedestrian and bicyclist great. I guess those that like to ride next to traffic on their bikes will have plenty of chances as they work on 200 miles of on street bike lanes that they just announced. I agree with Randy on this one. I used the cultural trail almst everyday this summer and I can assure you it was annoying and unsafe that pedestrians seemed hell bent on walking in the bicycle lane! I kept thinking, 'what are you doing, get out of my space dumbass' The planning principle of the trail is good and I am excited about the new additions, but the design, IMO is a bit lacking. Also, an argument can be made that there is too much visual clutter along the trail too, although this isnt necessarly shown in the pictures you posted. Having said that, considering the company I work for is behind this trail and one o fmy bosses is project manager....I am completely supportive of everything cultural trail... :) I think this comment makes the best point of all. "I kept thinking, 'what are you doing, get out of my space dumbass'." As a bicyclist a city actually gave you 'your own space' (but still within the street grid) and gave you some separation from traffic. I am sure the pedestrians will figure it out over time. Its like a roundabout, it takes some time and complaining from some people. But, at least the space is being developed for alternative transportation modes. Sounds like Amsterdam! You definitely find out quickly enough to stay out of the bike lane there.
  3. Shop off the alcohol? LOL That's a new concept to me.
  4. ^ hehe no, mine's the civilian model that runs on gasoline.
  5. I think I'll take my KLR 650 downtown more often! I didn't like the fact that most garages don't allow motorcycles, though I understand now that they have liability concerns over entry/exit gates falling on riders (litigious America at work). This kind of motorcycle/soother parking is all over the place in Europe.
  6. ^And a lot more fun, I'll bet! Here's one way that a Smart car can help you in an accident -- they are so light and small that they "bounce" off of things. I don't know how many folks here have been to demolition derbies a lot, but if you compare the full size derby to the compact derby, you will see an interesting phenomenon. While the gigantic '70s sedans in the full size derby bash into each other and stop with a thud, the little cars just bounce off each other because they are so light (unless they are somehow trapped). Another way of looking at it is by watching auto racing. When there is a crash with multiple flips or rolls, people often assume that it the worst possible type of crash. Yet, drivers walk away unscathed much of the time -- the more rolls, the less likely the driver is to be seriously hurt. On the other hand, crashes that don't look bad to outsiders are the ones that kill people, such as Dale Earnhardt's crash. A dead stop is the worst type of crash. Basically, the Smart car might get knocked into another stationary car by an SUV then later into a telephone pole, but since so much of the energy was dispersed over three impacts and two skids, the Smart car driver is less likely to be injured than one driving another SUV that took all the force at once.

I never knew there was an elevated freeway there. Of course, I've only been to NYC twice.
  8. Wow, water parks get naaasssty after only a few months off, don't they?
  9. LOL, I know John. Funny to see him quoted in the Kansas City media.

Is that a roof pool? Roof pools rule. I wish Columbus' roof pool bars would reopen. I hear they were raging back in the '70s and '80s.

Some friends of mine, a band called The Breezeway, used to play at Cedar's quite often before they lost some guys and moved to Nashville.
  12. C-Dawg, you should probably avoid Mt. Sterling altogether.
  13. Public companies are like cancer; they continue to grow until it kills them.

I'm glad that I don't have to say generic shit at the store where I work.
  20. When I was a kid, my folks used to threaten me with a possible stint in the TB hospital if I refused to get checkups at the doctor. Thing was, it was like 1985.
  21. Plus, funding for the streetcar comes from many sources.

I was listening to WEBN today and heard a promo that went something like this "In a perfect world, 71 and 75 would never back up... and grown-ups would get the summer off!" Sounds like Europe is a the perfect world! Their public transit means few have to drive everywhere and they do take much of the summer off.

Those chicks look pretty good. That high school has a lot more enthusiasm than mine did. I don't know, maybe it was because I graduated in the oh-so-sarcastic '90s.
  25. Those are awesome! Too bad they are about killing us.
