+1 on flip-flop hatered. When I was growing up, ('80s-'90s) only the DIRTIEST white trash wore flip-flops away from the beach/pool. I can't shake that imagery. Also, they make the wearer look incredibly lazy.

Did you know there are now five oceans? How about a comma before "and"?
No, no, Beijing is Peking again. And Leningrad is St. Petersburg again. Zaire has changed back to "The Congo".

Saved by the Bell was a manipulative show.

Pluto's not a planet any more. Half of the dinosaurs are different now. No Brontosaurs or Stegosaurus, and many have different names.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
^ Very good point. Somebody (X, I think) mentioned that there are articles about how suburbanites and urbanites increasingly have trouble seeing eye-to-eye, while the mindset of this forum shows that urbanites do appreciate truly rural lifestyles and small towns outside of exurbia.

Cincinnati: Corryville: Hampton Inn & Suites
Now that I think of it, a Rooster's won't work at this site because current Rooster's policies do not allow restaurants to be located in new buildings, only renovated ones. That's actually a great company policy for making a small dent in sprawl. Well, this is not a sprawly area, though some parts look a suburban.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
To add a second comment to KJP's European train pictures after he added the text, I actually rode the same Thalys train route, except we got on at Amsterdam, went through Brussels and ended at Paris Nord. Man, that thing tears ass. Amsterdam to Paris in 4-4.5 hours. It went so fast that elevation changes caused your ears to pop just like an airplane -- even though train tracks are limited to grades of what, 5%? Those big paint chips on the front of the train are from hitting birds at hyperspeed! I also was in the same Frankfurt Haufbahnauf station less than two weeks ago, transferring to a Regional Express train to Wiesbaden from an ICE (Inter-City Express) train originating in Berlin. Again, awesome. By the way, notice how most people kept a tidy appearance because they would be seen by others, not isolated in their automobiles exiting only for McDonald's and to get gas.

Mount Vernon / Knox County: Developments and News
That's what I thought, but I bet Gam-be-yay is actually how it is supposed to be pronounced. Mispronounced Ohio and its Ver-sales, Lank-a-stir, Nerk, Pat-a-skalla and My-lan.

Eh, I can see why IHOP bailed. How many other urban IHOPs can you name? They are almost like Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. You know what would work really awesome at this location, though? A Rooster's!

Columbus: Downtown: Highpoint / Columbus Commons
^ Scarborough Mall started as an anchorless four-corridor, enclosed mall. Eventually, Sofa Express took over 2/3rds of the building, leaving basically one corridor of mall shops consisting of a dollar theater, comic book store, used video game store and R/C racetrack.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
I just got back from Europe on Tuesday, and we used trains to get everywhere! It was mind-blowing how efficient, perfectly timed, relaxing and fun they were. Everyone in the States (non-believers, especially) needs to use the European rail system to understand how screwed up things are in the U.S. due to our poor selection of travel modes.

Pet Peeves!
The comically oversized sunglasses that girls/women wear. They are like a mask -- like Cobra Commander wears. Listen ladies, if you wear those big sunglasses I can't tell if you are good looking. I can't do anything but assume that you are not.
