Help with Washington DC
^ Yea, the funny part about DC is that the city is an urban paradise, but some of the suburbs/exurbs are just AWFUL. It's because most people in the area weren't born there - they brought their taste for sprawl with them from Texas, the South or even here.

Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
I heard some guys talking about intermodal facilities today. Guy 1: "I hear they're putting one in in Chesapeake for coal." Guy 2: "But there's no big airport there." Guy 1: "You don't put coal on an airplane, dumbass."

Portsmouth / Scioto County: Developments and News
Where is that Justice Center going to be? I can't wait to end up in there after a long night of Portsmouth fun! Kidding...

Off Topic
From living in Portsmouth for four years I'm used to seeing people snort pills, but one time I saw a chick lick the dollar bill she used to snort pills. When I saw this I got disgusted and said, "Did you just lick money?"

EIFS Horror Show!
EIFS makes structures look "digital", which is a very bad thing.

A Bad Weekend
Most gay men are physically want a woman wants in a straight man. Not just physically! They clean, they have really nice lawns, they like good looking, clean furniture, they fold their clothes, they like gourmet food, they're up on current events, art, gossip, the list goes on and on. I think most straight men have been through a phase where they do these things in hope of attracting and retaining women. Generally, men move away from these practices around the 100th time they see these sorts of men dumped for sloppy, uncaring musicians/race car drivers/drug dealers/artists/trust fund babies/professional students/motorcycle mechanics who do as they please and enjoy themselves. Women never dump those guys for "clean" men on the other hand.

Help with Washington DC
How big of a complex do you want to live in? I lived in a 20-building complex in Alexandria that had its own convienece store, movie theater, dry cleaners, copy/fax/computer center and 2 great pools. I believe today a 2-bedroom there would be about $1300 while a one bedroom would be $1050 or so. It was nice having all those amenities as a part of the complex. Bars, grocery stores, regular strip mall stuff and a mall were all walkable. It was a full mile from the Metro station though, with morning and evening shuttles. Arlington was 2-5 Metro stops away. Also, the Crystal City area is a good TOD area that is closer to some parts of Arlington.

Columbusites spend a day in Cleveland
Oh man, so you had to walk around with all that change all day? UGH, I hate that. Sounding like change when you walk, getting bums all worked up, difficult access to keys, bulging pockets.

^ Yeah, as I mentioned earlier Rob 'n Gos are illegal in WV, but there was one on US 60E in Huntington that cooked up some way to do business.

Cincinnati: GE Aerospace
^ I think there will still be airplanes and airlines for a long time. The business models are just going to change.

The way this is unfolding is not a surprise to me.

Appalachian Middletown: Amanda Vicinity
Was Amanda an actual incorporated area with its own post office? There is another Amanda in southwestern Fairfield County; generally, when two towns with the same name exist in a state, the post office made one of them change its name. When what this Amanda dissolved? The other Amanda is still going strong.

Cleveland Rail Tour 2008 - PART 3 of 3
^ Oh, it was a Kenny Chesney show, I see. That's why the crowd doesn't exactly look like they're ready to rock.

The Future of America and Its Cities
Ha, the funny part is that the Ranger was designed in 1992, back when the weight of vehicles was much more reasonable. If they redesign the Ranger for 2010-11 expect it to gain 500-700 pounds and lose its advantage. Car companies (all of them, not just the American ones) can't stop adding weight to their vehicles.

The New Suburban Gothic: Dayton after Peak Oil?
^ I've found that music from the late '70s to the early '90s did a very good job of predicting what today is like (unlike '50s-'60s TV, which completely missed it). Here are some other examples: Judas Priest - "Electric Eye" (security cameras) Black Sabbath - "Computer God" (how the computer, and the government/corporations' knowledge of how you use it, will take the soul out of life) Helloween - "Guardians" (mind control through technology)

The average woman's idea of what actually looks good is incredibly distorted today.

Ohio University Five Fest Riots, Tasers, Controversy, Etc.
C-Dawg, I think you should transfer schools. You clearly aren't very excited about attending OU and spend little time thinking about extracurricular life at the school.

I laughed even more at Cincinnatus' sig. That newscaster always looks like he's wearing lavender eye makeup.
