Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
GCrites replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes, those are all possible situations, but less direct than the Columbus examples. Education is one positive aspect of Columbus' economy.

Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
GCrites replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is my beef with my hometown. The economy is based on negative occurances, such as sickness, obesity (fast food, hospitals), government regulation and calamities. Sure, there's lots of money in them, but bad things have to happen for Columbusites to make money.

Yeah, it's true -- nice doesn't get you anywhere, but courteous does.

New Yorkers are very nice. Nicer than us, by far.

Every time I've been to NYC, I thought the natives lived a very isolated existence. I couldn't believe how many had never been out of the city even once, many of whom were over 30! Granted, you never NEED to leave the NYC to experience a lot of things, but you don't NEED to leave Woodsfield or West Union either.

Cincinnati: Uptown District Discussion
I live right off of Short Vine. It's funny that that so much of the area east of Short Vine is full of med school people, college kids, young doctors and all that -- many more peaceful folks than troublemakers -- that you never see. It's like they just watch TV or something during their free time and drive out of the area to run errands or go to the bar. It's almost like a suburban lifestyle in the city. You only ever see such a small percentage of the college students/YPs on the street. C'mon people, take advantage of the fact that you can walk places.

Cincinnati: Uptown District Discussion
I think that Short Vine has gone downhill over the past year. Top Cat's and Sudsy Malone's both closed, two local restaurants have gone out of business and a cell phone store also closed (no big loss there). It seems every time something worthwhile closes, something like a Rob 'N Go or a cheap jewelry store takes its place (that is, if anything goes in at all). The clothing store highlighted above is a nice addition though.

I honestly can't handle all those ups and downs in two hours. It's more natural for people's moods to change more slowly. Older movies (pre-1985) seem to be easier for me to watch. With sports, since the ups and downs are happening as a natural progression of the game or race, it's much easier to digest.

Who has the prettiest campus in Ohio?
An issue that schools face when trying to lure commuter students from the suburbs, rural and semi-rural areas (which many are) is that they don't like garages. They're only used to parking at Wal-Mart. Schools serving rural commuters, especially, face so much opposition to parking garages that their campuses end up being surface lot city until space reaches critical mass.

There's a chance of it! There's probably a raging teen dance party going on above the Abercrombie.

Columbus: From the Rhodes Tower (Part I)
Yeah that is where the old Ampetheatre used to be but now there is a removable stage that goes up during Rib & Jazz fest and other events that need a stage. So the steps are like sitting areas to listen to the music, you know! I always thought they were for mass baptisms. Old COSI better. Convention centers shouldn't kill street life -- they should add to it, but when local attendees have to take a car to get to them, they do kill it. Obviously, exhibitors that live within driving distance of the show sometimes have to bring smaller displays and items with them and not send them as freight, but hopefully there are more attendees than people working the show.

Wow, a surface lot. Glad to see that go. I guess I meant more mature trees. All we can do is wait.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
GCrites replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt would be nice if some of the beams had glass between them in case of rain. Personal preference, I suppose.

OU, Wooster and Kenyon are all great. As noted earlier, UC needs more trees. Ohio Wesleyan is also nice.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
GCrites replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionColossal! What do they cost? A lot, I'd imagine. Columbus needs more affordable housing downtown, as I fear that the expensive loft thing is saturated for now -- but not over the next five years! And do those beams between the buildings need to be there?

Hamilton: 1970-2007: Cladding, Demolitions, and Progress
Today, it's EIFS (shudder). I just looked up EIFS -- so that's what that garbage is called. I've seen buildings being slathered in that crap for years and wondered what it was. I HATE it.
